Yeah, once you think about it, you would think developed countries like America or Japan or Britain would try to do something to conserve natural resources because they have the money to do it. But they don't. And I agree with Aerlinn. The main problem we have is that a good part of us are very very selfish. Most of us do things without regarding its effect on the environment. It's quite terrible what goes on people's mind.

Yeah, I can only agree with you two. I guess most people are just concerned with their own lives and the people they feel close to and that's it. They don't care for other people's lives that much and they don't care about global challenges/problems either. This might sound a little harsh, but I've experienced it myself; that people just care about their "own personal bubble" as Aerlinn put it and that's it - and it doesn't really matter how bad outside their lives might be.

I think our generation has a lot to face right now, we're in quite a pickle, if I do say so myself. And as optimistic as this sounds, we are on a road to disaster. I'm not even where sure to start complaining at this point, there is just so much. I believe one of the root causes is that there just isn't enough education offered about the environment. I remember my grade school days learning only about the rain forest and the extinction there, which is incredibly important, but there is also other places we should concern ourselves with...The lack of funding for Environmental fields and studies is definitely having a huge impact on peoples views towards the environment. I think that if they increased funding on Environmental education, people would be more apt to focus on the environment. Oh Well, C'est La Vie...

Okay, so I challenge all of you to calculate your global footprint at http://www.ecofoot.org

My global footprint is 9 (acres that is..) and if everyone lived like me, we would need about 2.5 planets....Which is pretty good considering....If everyone lived like the normal American we would need about 10 planets. Now I don't intend to insult the Americans...primarily...because after all I am American....

And speaking of the oceans and CO2...Awhile ago Scientific American had a great article about the acidity of the Ocean rising due to the increase of the CO2 emissions. Which is having extremely harmful effects on the coral reef and marine life. Oh! Here's the article (FYI: It's in PDF format)

http://www.planktos.com/pdf/TheDangersO ... cation.pdf

Speaking of cool opportunities, I'm going to be working with a group that focuses on Watershed Education with Elementary, Middle and High schoolers...I'm really excited about it :teehee:

Oh and if you haven't read ISHMAEL by Daniel Quinn yet, do so. It will change your life.

kthnxbye.

That article on the acidity of the Oceans is really interesting, but also very shocking.
I knew that pollution had a very harmful effect on coral reefs, but I didn't know that it was because of the CO2-emissions.
And my total footprint is 3 hectares and if everyone lived like me we would need 1.7 planets. But the average of my country is 4.7 hectares, so I'm not too bad I guess

@Sida: Oh I just did my science project on ocean acidification and coral reef. It was really interesting. I deliberately put coral in a tank that I was pumping carbon dioxide in for a couple of weeks and saw what would happen in two days. It decayed a lot and it really stank, too.

My carbon footprint is 18 acres. Ouch... I'm hoping to reduce that though.

My carbon footprint is 21 *shrinks away*

I'd like to reduce that...definitely...

4.7 planets...dang.

Now I feel bad!

*sniffle*

My global print is 14.6 acres. Hm... Could be waaaay better >.< But tis hard when you live with 5 people.

I agree with everything Sida... We have definitely gotten ourselves in a pickle. Now the question is how shall be we get out? I mean I know that pickles are picked out of a jar nicely by us, but who shall do it to us?!

wow you're pretty good, Aerlinn. I think you're the best of us so far :) Congrats.
Well we're currently talking about global environmental issues in our English class. And many people know what hurts the environment and have seen the movie by Al Gore and were shocked by it and yet they don't change anything. I never understand why people say "Oh yeah, that was so shocking and we really need to change something" but then they just never do anything. It annoys me so much.

Wow. i love the foot size quiz Sidawethiel. My footprints 14 which is extremely pathetic of me. especially since I'm alway telling others to recycle and all that. and yeah I know what you mean how everyones like 'thats too bad' and then ... nothing. But i am kinda pleased about how right now, at least here in US there is a minute increase in awareness about that environment, now that they have t-shirts and other stuff promoting 'think Green' and what not

Great poster thinggy :) I think that the Al Gore movie is takes lightly because a lot of it is stats. The people who say that global warming is NOT our fault use the EXACT SAME stats. I think that when we look at things like the penguin tragedy (PM me if you really want to know if you dont already) and the fact that we have almost NO vegetation left compared to even a few centuries ago, are some of the best examples. I live in a place that has space to waste and resources to exploit, and well heck does. The oil and gas industry is going to disappear. Fast. Im willing to put down money that in the next 30-40 years, all them people with stocks in that field will broke. Bye bye. Its fairly obvious, that HELLO. We have to do something. So I agree with being annoyed at people's lack of doing :)

That poster is really good keyodie and I can only agree with that statement.
So many people think they won't change anything anyway when trying to do something for the environment. But if everyone just did a little bit that'd make a huge difference..

Thankyou. :) Yeah, it really frustrates me when I think of all the things we could accomplish if people stopped thinking they're only one person and stopped being so lazy. Especially since all my friends think like that. -.-
