*sniffs*

Thanks Nienna!

*sniffs again and takes handkerchief out*

As some of you know I haven't seen AWE yet but I do know Norrie is dying :( Now I finally decided to watch a clip on youtube. It;s heartbreaking! :'( Why did Bootstrap kill him? *cries*

^Well, it's not as if I'm trying to excuse Bootstrap for his behavior; I'm certainly not. But I think he was really losing himself at that point...you know the quote, "part of the ship, part of the crew"? He had been in service to Jones so long that he'd begun to lose his own identity and become a physical part of the ship. It obviously took him a while to come out of his stupor after detaching himself from the wall again, and there's a scene just before Norrington comes to free them that you probably haven't seen (sorry) where Elizabeth begins talking to Bootstrap and he explains that "if [Will] saves me [ie becomes Captain of the FD] he loses you." This is when Elizabeth begins to see what a terrible choice Will has to make, and it also shows how far gone Bootstrap was...just a few seconds after talking to her, he reattaches to the wall and when she calls his name again he doesn't know who she is, or remember their earlier conversation at all. So, you see, Bootstrap really had no idea who Norrington was at that point - all he saw was a man who was helping prisoners escape, which went directly against the Captain's orders. He seems to be (oddly) loyal to his ship and Captain, so he does the natural thing: he eliminates the cause of the problem, not having the faintest idea that he's just killed a very important man who Elizabeth had almost married.

^Good heavens. I had no idea all that would come out. Sorry. :teehee:

No worries! I liked your explanation ;) I think it partly excuses Bill from what he's done but on the other had, loosing your identity is one thing.. killing a man is really something else! Bootstrap might have dehumanised (:P) on the FD but I figure that he still was a tiny bit human. What ele can make you more human than posseving love, forgiveness, a heart? But then.. perhaps that was vanished too :(

Poor Norrie! :(

I agree. I think perhaps Bill was starting to get something like amnesia...and losing all will to do anything else but serve his Captain. He wasn't in his right mind when he stabbed poor Norrie, so maybe that's another excuse? :erm:

pooh, no reason to be afraid, dear Pip.

lol, you should tell him that we all know better! Don't we, everyone? ;) (just kidding of course you're an angel just like me... instead of being the Merry and Pippin we should be the angels of Herenya's Line :P) you're right, you never do know... but as of right now I don't think so. It would be GREAT, but... well, yeah. :erm: Well, instead of saying that, go see it! :teehee:

:'( makes me sad to hear it! ;) how could you not like the second two better than CotBP? I mean, I get liking it because it's the original, but by far DMC and AWE are my faves! I adore those movies (never would've guessed, right?) that is REALLY crazy?! How could you ignore such an awesome thing?

Man, I almost forgot I even asked that question! I know what you mean about that quote... I love quoting it to my brother (in my best Norrie accent) all the time... he just puts up with it and basically rolls his eyes... :P that's another good one... OH I love that one too!!! :bounce: but, as I've told you somewhere along the line before, my brother rolls his eyes whenever I say that one too. lol Oh, and you know what? I also like the other deleted scene in CotBP between him and Lizzie... you know the one where they're talking about the marriage and how he doesn't want it to be conditional. It's so bittersweet, you know? and he's kinda dorky too... :P just the way he says some things. lol

Will, welcome to the Norrie club!! I was wondering when you'd decide to pop up. ;)

it IS heartbreaking! :'( that scene always gets me... it's just SOOO hard to watch! Actually, I think it's worse than sitting through Will's death scene even!
Anie described it pretty good... although I still don't like Bootstrap... I mean, it's not even like he ever was that good to Will in the first place and then killing Norrie! That was almost too much! :( And wasn't Norrie his commander anyway? I mean, Jones was, but Norrie was over Jones.... and then stupid Mercer must've known something was going on... :annoyed2: that guy creeps me out!

Heh, thanks. :)

Well, NOW he knows better...kind of. After I told him Barby was one of my favorites. :P (Ah, but it's such fun being Merry and Pip, don't you agree? :drunk: ;)) Well, just wait. Maybe you will, someday. :) Yeah, I need to go rent it or something...the whole star thing might not go over too well with my mom, though. She's touchy about that kind of thing - she almost didn't go see AWE with me the second time I saw it because of the Calypso bit. :erm:

Meh, she said it seemed like the writers just kind of hashed random ideas together. :annoyed2: I don't really know why she doesn't like them, she LOVES LOTR and Spider-Man so you'd think...but oh well. Not everyone likes Pirates, I guess. Perhaps they thought something like: "Gentlemen, I wash my hands of this weirdness!" :teehee:

Oh, yes! I know what you mean. Their story is actually quite sad, isn't it? Poor Norrie didn't mean to pick a girl who was madly in love with somebody else. :(

Well, the thing is, we know Will's coming back in two minutes. But Norrie...isn't. :'( I've never cried at either death, which surprised me, but I still flinch and twitch everytime they're stabbed. With Will it's an ongoing twitch, which must look weird to anyone watching me.

Something funny: I just watched the CotBP commentary with Keira and Jack D again today, and I was struck by the difference between them. Keira was like a bouncy young girl, more often than not going on and on excitedly about some random thing or another (like the end where Orlando kisses her ), whereas Jack seemed more serious, but he had a kind of dry humor that I really liked. Really, they reminded me of their characters in that respect...do you know what I mean or am I just going on about nothing? I certainly don't think anyone else would have played Norrington in such a way that you actually feel sorry for him, even though he was trying to kill all the pirates. Also I noticed once again that Jack Davenport has a very, very, VERY nice voice. :P

haha, finally!!!! I have delivered the Norrie thread from Davy Jones' Locker!!! :bounce: I am so sorry, Anie, Norrie and everyone!

Anie, you're welcome! ;)

that's good to hear... :P Why does it seem like Barbossa is always left out anyway? Or is that just me... he seems to be the character who is "hard to remember but impossible to forget" (did I get that quote right? Do you kow where it comes from? :P) (aye, aye! being Merry and Pippin is great fun! :drunk:) hmmm, actually the star thing isn't really that bad. It's sort of sweet really. and anyway they sort of have that in Narnia in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. *shrugs* that one guy is a star and so is the magician

all I have to say to that is "huh"?! hmmm, that's really weird... sometimes people come up with some strange things. lol nothing against her, of course, but still. ;) I guess not everyone does. maybe!

their story IS sad!! the poor guy! *huggles Norrie*

I know! that's what I tell my brother too... that Norrie and Becky die and they're gone forever. but he still says Will's death is the worst. Oh, I never really cry/cried either... but I do flinch that's for sure... or else I sometimes might whimper or say how sad it is or something like that, you know? But really lately I've kind of fallen in love with Will's death scene. I don't mean that as in I love to see him die, but it's SO powerful and moving and seeing Elziabeth screaming and seeing the REAL Jack come out... and the music they put to it, it's extremely impressive in my book and I just love it!

haha, now that you say that... I can see it now too. They do sort of remind one of their characters. :P hmmm, that's really neat! No, you're not going on about nothing, Anie! (yes, Jack does have a nice voice... and I agree no one could've played Norrington like him! :swoon: he is just amazing! To make Norrie so interesting and really *pop* from the screen and go from stuck-up, Navy dude to real person who's not afraid to do what it takes or to speak out. Bravo to him! :-D)

Hello fellow Norrie fans! I haven't been in here in the longest time, and I rather miss talking about him.

Actually, I just wanted to add something to the convo going on about Bootstrap and Norrie. The scene between Elizabeth and Bill was especially heartbreaking to me, because it reminded me in a way of my grandmother when she had Alzhiemers. You could have a 2 minute conversation with her and then 10 seconds later she'd ask you the same question. I sort of liken Bootstrap to that... except that his "memory loss" is for a different reason of course.

By the way, is anyone here who's into James/Elizabeth fanfiction? I've been reading a lot of it lately, amongst other ships, and am actually writing a bit as well. Maybe I'll post some of it here when I'm done, if that's okay with everyone.

Lar! It's great to see you here... maybe we can re-breathe life into the Norrie conversation now. :) I've rather missed chatting about our good Admiral/Commodore too.

hmmm, I know what you mean about the Lizzie and Bootstrap talk in the brig. It is sad... also somewhat eerie to me, but still sad. although after Bootstrap killed Norrie I lost a LOT of respect for him. But I guess Bootstrap's decline is rather pitiable no matter what... and trying to be fair to Bill, it must be terrifying to become part of the Dutchman and loose your mind like that... :erm:

well, I haven't read, ummm, any Norribeth fanfic. Ooo, but you're writing one? :bounce: yes, yes! Post it here when you're done with it! I would LOVE to read it! Norribeth is one of my favorite ships EVER! :teehee:

Really, you've never read any? You should most certainly read some [good] fanfic before reading mine. I definitely suggest The Ties That Bind Us by articfoxarticfox. It's great as a first Norribeth read. *le nod*

Nope, I never have. actually I've only read one real PotC fanfic in all my life...
aww, are you saying yours isn't good then, Lar? I think you've told me about that one before. Actually I think I have partially read it too. Maybe. :erm: anyway, thanks! :-D

It's okay...not as if I've been doing much better lately, eh? I'm just glad you did. :)

Ahaha, "elementary, my dear [PD]!" Especially since I just watched Elizabethtown again last week. :P That kind of does fit him though... it's actually "I'm impossible to forget but I'm hard to remember", but we'll count it because all you did was flip it. True, there is that, but...I dunno. Maybe I'll just get it from the library sometime...I am awfully curious about it.

Yeah - oh well. I tried anyway.

At least he actually has fans. It would be so much worse if everyone hated his character on top of it! :(

Eh, maybe because we've had the longest time to form an emotional attachment to Will? And Norrie doesn't seem all that popular with guys who watch POTC anyway. Oh, I know what you mean! It's a beautifully tragic scene, and then you add in the sacrificial element of Jack letting Will stab the heart...it's just beautiful.

Oh good. Sometimes I have a tendancy to do that. :teehee: (I just wish Jack Davenport was in more movies...I mean, he'll always be Norrie to me, but I'd like to see him do more, you know?)

DARN! We missed Jack Davenport's B-Day! :headwall: it was March 1st! :P

eh, oh well! don't worry 'bout it, Pip!

oh... :headwall: darn, I thought I might've had you there. :P Although I suppose I shouldn't have... :erm: after all you are teh Quote Master. :notworthy: (ooops, sorry :duh: tis been a while since I watched Elizabethtown) well, if you do you'll have to tell me what you think about it... (just remember 'curiosity killed the cat' ;))

you're right, Pip. at least he does have fans...

maybe... :erm: but I'm not sure still... eh, yeah, no guys seem too attached to Norrie no matter what. :eyeroll: my brother doesn't like him much... whatever. :P WE know the truth, right? ;) yes, that's precisely it! It's such a beautifully done scene! Jack giving the heart to Will and then taking Lizzie away... yes, Johnny, Keira and Orlando were at the top of their game... and it's almost beyond words... :'( it's lovely!

but back to Norrie's death scene...

don't worry 'bout it. ;) (I know what you mean... although he WILL always be Norrie to me. ;) but I don't know of any other movies he's in. :erm: *looks it up on IMDb* he's been in The Wedding Date... I've heard of that one... and The Libertine... but those are the only two I've even ever heard of :erm:)

Ok, then... I think I shall have to read that fanfic. :-D you two have convinced me! ;)

Oopsies...also Aragorn's birthday. Well, I did say "God bless Jack" the morning of so that kinda counts. :P

Sorry...you might've if I wasn't so extremely attached to Elizabethtown. It's just quirky enough for me to pretend it's not really a chick flick. ;) (Ah, 'sokay. We all make mistakes. :)) I will! In fact maybe I'll make a run to Hollywood this weekend... (And satisfaction brought him back!)

Devon says it's because he was trying to kill them all in CotBP, which I guess is a valid point. :erm: But I think since girls are more prone to sympathy we feel pity for him when they don't. ;) Agreed! I don't know why anyone wouldn't find it an absolutely breathtaking scene...but then, I don't know why anyone would hate Pirates either, so there you go. :P

Me too! But I would like to see him in something else...after all, who can resist that voice? :swoon: ;) (Huh, maybe I'll have to go look those up...)

Yes you shall!! It's beautifully angsty and lovely all at once!

really? I did not know about Aragorn's B-day either... you mean Viggo, right? (because I really didn't know Aragorn even had a set birthday...) why did you say that? or am I totally missing the point??? :erm:

yeah, that's alright. ;) I knew you liked Elizabethtown... I just thought maybe once I would be able to pull the wool over your eyes. ;) you're right. It is pretty much a quirky movie... although I never thought so until someone actually pointed that out (I always just considered it a chick flick). lol umm, run to Hollywood? (hmm, never heard that version!)

but Norrie's not really. Barbossa is the one who wants to kill Elizabeth and Will in CotBP... :erm: Norrie's just doing his job and he hates pirates... that's no reason to hate him. :( And I don't know if I like Norrie just because I feel bad for him... he truly is a deep, rich character. it's fun to watch his character arch too... man, I wish I could remember how I first got into him. :erm: I think most people thought it was a good scene... I guess I've never really asked though. :erm: yeah, I know. I shall never ever understand Pirates haters... :P

amen! :swoon: (you should... although one is rated R (The Libertine... although it's also got Tom Hollander and Johnny Depp in it. :teehee:) and the other one is PG-13, I think... :erm: not really sure though)
