Really? :jawdrop: Wow!

I thought it was okay. It was interesting to learn about Jane Austen's inspriation for her characters and settings and so on. It was interesting.

'ello my peeps.

Well seen as how I am currently re-reading P&P, I thought now would be a good time to pop back in. :-)

I have seen both the 2005 film and BBC TV series and I like them both - there are aspects of each that I prefer in the other, for example the 2005 Bingley is far superior to the BBC Bingley, but Mrs. Bennet from the BBB is far better than the one from the 2005 film. Confusing eh? :teehee:

I have that same problem too. I adore the 2005 Bingley, but then there's the problem that I get to know him so much more in the BBC one. So then they're about equal. BBC Mrs. Bennett was BRILLIANT. And BBC Mr. Bennett was awesome as well. He just delivered that dry humor and had such great facial expressions. And then again 2005 Jane was much prettier (in my opinion), as I thought Jane should be, but then the BBC one was so more developed. I guess it's really just the fact that the characters are more developed, so I love them more, that makes the BBC ones better. I also have to say I'm a fan of close adaptations :eyeroll: and not a huge Keira fan.

I love the BBC one because it seems truer to the story (not seems, actually, it is truer). I love the characters and the actors playing them (Colin Firth! Love!)

Things like the clothes in the new one drive me up a wall. I mean, what Caroline wears to the ball? It looks like an underdress/slip/whatever than a gown. Just... no.

P&P '95 is better.

^ agree, the BBC one is better; the clothes, the charcters, the script..... i mean that lizzy in the new one...i keep thinking no no no, she is just so annoying and so giggly.....the other lizzy is more grown up, and dont get me stated on mr.wickham.

although i do think mary was picked vey well, except for the fact she looks younger then lydia, as lydia is meant to be the youngest 15/16

i think this new one is for people who dont have the time to watch the BBC one, but it's totaly wrong.

i dont think that all these new versons of Jane Austens classics are that great, i do however like the new mansfield park and persassion, those two were very good, OMG the cpt.wentworth in the new perassion; his eyes are so wonderful ;)!

The new one is for people that either:

1) Don't want to read the book
2) Don't want/have time to watch BBC version
3) Think Keira Knightley is an amazing actress

The new one is uber romanticized- I mean, P&P is a love story, but it's so much more than that. It's smart, witty, etc.

^^Or, you know, for people who just liked it better.

I think Joe Wright's adaptation showed a little more imagination, personally. He directed it the way he saw it, and it worked out well, I think, as do many others. The new one was actually a movie. The old one was a mini-series. Chopping is necessary if you're going to fit it into a reasonable amount of time. I think Wright did it well.

I've read the book many times, and I still like the new one better.

But OMG the actors in the new one are so annoying, they didnt show much of what the charcters are like, and the bennet girls are just so giggly.... they seem to be just silly girls in the new one, well all except mary, but then she looks to young to play the charcter, and when she crys in that scene when she has just played the piano, she just doesnt make the right cry... its so winey...not good

Well, Lydia and Kitty are silly, naive girls without much depth to them. They didn't have much wit or sense. Mary, on the other hand, is solemn, intense, a loner...I think the actresses captured that.

Well, Mary was whining during the piano scene. I think it worked.
