Actually, I figure canon characters are okay to play if you can have fun with them and not worry too much about accuracy. Nobody can play them exactly like they're supposed to be played (except perhaps Pippin...) so you just have to sort of reserve judgement. I used to have a problem with playing them but I don't anymore.
Also, I'm pretty easygoing about short or one-sentence posts. I think as long as they have some substance (e.g. as long as they don't say "He stared out to sea thinking about nothing much") they're okay. Personally, if I felt I needed to post a whole bunch every time I did, I wouldn't post much. Even though my posts rarely get beyond two paragraphs, I do try to have them do something.

I'm sorry LDM!
I like action ok... But I prefer diologe (sp) More... I don't know why.. I guess it seems more interactive to me.
Ugh... Meldawen, your example of a bad one sentance reminds me WAY too much of how I posted when I first got here... Each time I go over my posts (because I am bored) when I joined my first rp... *shudder* It makes me want to cringe and vomit.

Don't worry, we've all been there once Probably about three years ago I used to join every RP (and I mean EVERY RP) by having my character's cat run in with her chasing it. *Shakes head* I think I've improved since then - but I could very well read over all this stuff in three years and think "Mel, you blinkin' idiot!" so you never know

I cringe when I read my rpgs from a year back as well. my posts used to be long... superfluously so. as for dialogue, I'm all right as long as some action or purpose accompanies it.

*sneaks in timidly* I would like to join.
I don't have all the time I used to, but I still love making up charries for whatever reason.

Quote: Actually, I figure canon characters are okay to play if you can have fun with them and not worry too much about accuracy. Nobody can play them exactly like they're supposed to be played (except perhaps Pippin...) so you just have to sort of reserve judgement. I used to have a problem with playing them but I don't anymore. See, I'm actually really rigid when it comes to playing canon characters in RPGs. I play almost exclusively canon characters, but with each and every post I read back through several times and make sure that I can actually picture that character doing/saying that. If anything seems off, I'll go back and change it. I've written a rather lengthy post on it before, so I won't go into details, but I'm also very picky about the connotations of various words and using different words with different characters. But that's probably just me being OCD again Quote: Also, I'm pretty easygoing about short or one-sentence posts. Yeah, I'm all about quality over quantity (though anyone who RPs with me will tell you that I'm notorious for my lengthy posts). I hate it when people make what I call "awkward posts," or in other words, posts that have no real purpose and only serve to show how lost the poster is. If I don't know what I should post immediately, I'll wait (much to the irritation of some ) and think it over until I have a response that both fits the situation and actually gives the other characters something to respond to. An example of an "awkward post" would be something like this (made up for the purpose of illustration): Quote: John spotted Anna and hurried over to her. "Hey," he said, grinning widely. "You doing alright?" Quote: Anna saw John coming and smiled. "Hey."
The first one's okay because, even though it's short, it asks a question and provides a base for conversation. The second one, in contrast, serves absolutely no purpose. Sure, it can be worked around, but it makes it difficult for the person responding to come up with something.
But, again, that may just be me. I'm kinda picky when it comes to RPGs.
And yeah, I used to RP a whole lot more. I keep trying to get more active again, but there's just not much out there catching my eye right now. If an RPG doesn't already have some semblance of a plot to it, I don't typically like to join because it leaves too much potential for the RPG dying. It's a lot easier to stay dedicated to an RPG when the people involved are actually working toward a known goal. Pip keeps trying to drag me into more RPGs, but I don't like joining something that I don't know I can stick with for a long time. There are certain ones that I'm pretty sure I'd enjoy for a week or so, then get bored of them but still feel compelled to post out of guilt, which is never fun for anyone involved, so I generally avoid those.
I just wish we could get a good Star Wars RPG going that would actually last. They all seem to die out rather quickly.

Hmm... I've never been in a star wars one... Of course, i've never known that much about star wars... I personally like to read/write and am interested in RPGs that are set in the time that Obi-Wan was padawan to Qui-Gon, I have much more freedom to create places and events, characters, and sometimes a whole new species!

I'm not to hot with playing canon characters unless it's Bootstrap Bill, him I can play. my OCs almost always tend to be young kids, there was Dylan Sparrow, and the twins Tamitha and Tameka, and Gabe and Gage, and Cole Johnston, and most recently a girl named Hailey Aidan. all of the charries i just mentioned are under age ten.

My Bootstrap! *clutches protectively*
Nah, just kidding. I'll share...sometimes.
He's just my favorite right now because I've been playing him in the "Pirates!" RPG for *thinks*...wow, over four months now, so I've understandably become somewhat attached to the character. I'll share him, though.
Actually, my favorite PotC characters to play are Norrington and Barbossa, but nobody ever makes RPGs that include them any more. *pouts*

I like playing Will Turner, but I don't know if I'm really that good at it.
I know essentially nothing about Star Wars, I've seen movies 4, 6 and 1 and not retained a whole lot. I join almost every RP posted that I can relate to, though - sometimes even the ones with no plot at the beginning turn out to be fun.

Yeah... I get 'into' an RP quite easily. And oddly, its ussually because alot of really good rpers are there. And an awesome plot!

Same with me. I can almost always tell when the starter of an rpg is dedicated and will have a nice plot going, or the opposite way around. I hate it when the creator of an rpg starts off with something as simple as Fantasy RPG (no plot so feel free do to whatever you want!). I'm a stickler for a structured goal and plotline. I've also been told by too many people that I'm an action freak... we just take a heck of a time to resolve a problem, and two posts later I introduce another problem.
