I thought the Gyptians were too... I don't know, wild-ish. They didn't seem right.

I thought the girl who played Lyra was kind of annoying... :annoyed2: Not sure why.

Hmm, the daemons were odd. They made them into those strange chunky-limbed computer animated things, and I can't stand those. *el shrug* But I suppose they couldn't exactly get real animals. :P
Person with mouse daemon:"Where's my mouse?"
Person with snake daemon: "..."

Mrs. Coulter was definitely perfect. Perfect squared. Perfectly perfect.

Overall, I thought the movie was entertaining... but I'm curious. If someone hadn't read the book but they saw the movie, how majorly confused would they be?

^My two friends went to see the film with me and they both said it was easier to follow than what they attempted to do with the book. They both tried reading the book but couldn't stomach through the beginnings to read the entire book. So I'm guess it wasn't that hard to follow.

Well my brother is 28, loves reading and is the biggest film buff, and he's not stupid either, but he had many questions for me, as parts of it he didn't really understand.

They really did have to dumb it down, my dad never read the books, and he said that the movie was a little confusing. And really, they changed the plot of the movie so much from the book, I don't know why they didn't just write a whole new script, toss the characters and start over.

Is Scoresby's daemon Hester? Or Lester? I can't remember, but she was a real sweetheart.

^Because then they wouldn't get to name it The Golden Compass and launch a mass of anti-film groups. Now if we didn't have those, what's the fun?

I do believe they said it was Hestor.

Yes, her name is Hestor. Her and Lee were my favourite characters... yes, even more so than Asriel dare I say it. I just loved the sassy attitude that Hestor had, she is a real character.

And what about that song at the end of the movie... anyone else think it was a bit odd... I know i did. All i really remember from it was some lady saying Lyra`s name a lot...

(i`d stick question marks in there, but my keyboard is acting funny...)

I still havn't seen the movie. My friend who was supposed to see it with me went with someone else, without even telling me :disgust: So I'm a bit irked about that, becuase now my only other friend with whom it would be fun to go to this movie with is grounded. Oh well, I'll see it eventually.

I'm alost done re-reading the trilogy. I'm liking it better this time, probably because I'm older and can understand it a whole lot better.

Most credit songs are complete and utter bobbins.... "Lyyyyyraaaaa..... Lyraaaaaa.....". Yeah, genius song writer.

Anyway, has anyone here read PP's book Lyra's Oxford? It's set two years after the third book, and it's only a small book (literally) and it's 48 pages. I bought it last night and I somehow don't think we've seen the last of Lyra and everybody. He's left this far too open.

Something else I bought yesterday (along with the film quiz book) was His Dark Materials: The Definitive Guide which is basically a massive encyclopedia put together by some American professor woman. PP says he consults it often as it's so good. :P Can't imagine a certain British female author allowing someone to write a definitve guide to her tales.

Anyone read these two?

i've seen Lyra's Oxford at chapters, but it never struck me as something I would buy, and I've never heard of the second one, I try to stay away from "encylopedia's" as it were, they freak me out.

Well it's so small I could probably type it out and then you wouldn't have to buy it. :teehee: I'm not actually sure what the point of it was, although it was nice to see Lyra 2 years on... I think it was mainly saying.... "I'm not done with this series yet".

Actually for anyone who is confused by the series, the pedia will probably help a great deal, it's very detailed, even down to why people wear certain clothing. It just basically has gathered all that we know for certain, and put them in order so it's all a bit easier to understand.

Yeah, let's not get into that. I'm trying -so- hard not to say anything.

Lyra's Tale? Did he just publish it?

You mean Lyra's Oxford? It was first published in 2003, my edition is 2007.

I'm not sure what it should have been called.. something like the "illness that never was".

I'm still trying to figure out what was the point of it all. Ah, well it was free. :D
