Well, when I first saw AWE I hadn't formed much of an attachment to Norrie, but I still felt bad about his death. Then I read all the posts defending him in the AWE thread (and various others) and decided that maybe he wasn't such a bad guy after all. It just kinda...kept going from there, I guess.
But anyhow, I really don't think they should've killed him off so suddenly. I'm not very happy with the excuse that "they'd done all they could with his character" anyway.

I've never heard that "they'd done all they could with his character" excuse! What kind of excuse is that anyway? So he's in the stories so Lizabeth can dump him, go to Will and then so he can steal the heart and give it to Beckett, save Elizabeth so his death isn't a total waste and then he's done all he can so let's kill him off? that's just... wrong. His character had so, so much potential to do something even greater then saving Elizabeth's life! He could've really done something amazing in the final battle.
But I'm happy you've changed your opinion on him... I don't actually remember when the first time I started liking him was ... I think it was around last Christmas maybe.

I know what you mean! I can't remember where I heard that excuse...maybe it was from the director or T&T, though I'd like to think better of them. The only reason T&T brought him back in DMC was because they knew they could "develop his character further".

I would hope T&T wouldn't say that about our Norrie! I like to think they knew him better than that... and didn't they say in the commentary for DMC that they loved Jack Davenport because he could play anything and if there was one person they wanted back it was him? it would seem like they could understand that Norrie was a very special, loved character, wouldn't it?
anyway, what do you think is the best Norrie scene ever?

*shrugs* I dunno. It's weird...I remember them saying that in the DMC commentary, yeah.
Anyway...best Norrie scene, um, probably either the end of CotBP when he gives up Elizabeth or the few seconds before his death when he says "Our destinies have been entwined, Elizabeth, but never joined." So beautiful and so heartbreaking!
(It's probably worth noting that the one deleted scene I wish they'd left in CotBP is the one where Norrie says "Ms. Swann - the very best of luck to you both". I mean, c'mon, that's 15 seconds tops! Not much of a sacrifice. )

Aww, man, Anie! You picked the two positively saddest scenes in the whole trilogy! one of my favorite scenes is his introduction in DMC.... "my story? It's exactly the same as your only one chapter behind." it's just great! lol but that last scene between him and Lizzie in AWE is sweet too.
(I know! I wish they had kept that one in too.... whenever I quote that scene to my brother he always says it's not a real scene so you can't quote it hey, I think it's sweet! And you're right it totally wouldn't have hurt to keep it in there!)

I did, sorry. Oh, I also like when Norrie points his gun at Jack and says "So am I worthy to serve under Captain Jack Sparrow - or should I just kill you now?" and Jack's like "You're hired!" Also this bit:
Jack: You look bloody awful, what are you doing here?!
James: You hired me. I can't help it if your standards are lax.
Jack: You smell funny!
^That last line gets me every time.
(:annoyed2: Just because it's not in the actual movie doesn't mean it can't be quoted! You tell him that next time it happens. )

I like that scene too... although I do think our dear Norrie had had too much to drink. Anyway, the whole Tortuga scene is hilarious! I love when Jack's trying out hats! (although I feel a little bad for Norrie especially when they throw him in with the pigs... and that's about when he's at the lowest he could go. the poor guy)
Oh, I also like
"so you never wondered why your latest fiancé ended up on the Flying Dutchman in the first place?"
he's so good at giving food for Lizzie's thought.
(I've told him that. it doesn't matter he still says it's not "real")

Jack is...Jack. What can we say? (I know, poor dear Norrie! I want so badly to jump in and give him a hug or something...he looks so terribly pathetic there.)
Ah yes, I love that line. Especially the way Jack Davenport said it. He does condescending so very well, doesn't he?
(Loser. jk!)

lol well, Jack is one of a kind. (pathetic? Oh, yes that is definitely what I would call it/him..... and actually I don't really blame him for stealing the heart at the end (and it was quite clever really... he put two and two together to figure Jack out and where he put the heart) I mean he was so low and desperate to do anything.... he paid for it in the end anyway
yes, he does. Jack is an amazing actor... at least in PotC (never seen him in anything else ). It's lots of fun to watch him.... gee, I wish they had kept all his deleted scenes in CotBP! they were all amazing! anyway, back to topic...
( nice! although I don't think I'd call him that... )
lol isn't this fun? We're keeping the Norrie club alive, just the two of us

Aye, that there be the biggest understatement I've ever heard, Merry. (It really is amazing that Norrie was able to figure out what Jack was thinking, I didn't understand what was going on when I first saw DMC. I don't really blame him either, I mean, Jack's okay now so it doesn't matter.)
And I really hope they have one of his deleted scenes from AWE that was in the novel...it's when Beckett tells Swann and Norrie that Elizabeth is dead, that she went down with the Black Pearl. It's written in such a wonderfully sad way that I'd love to see Jack and Johnathan Pryce's reactions...
(No, I wouldn't think so. )
aye! As long as this stays alive so is Norrie, right?

lol hm, so it may be. (I actually don't remember thinking too much about anything plot-wise when I first saw DMC.... let alone how Jamie figured out what was going on in Jack's head (I think by then I was confused enough with the plot and what was happening) but you must remember I was just watching it to watch it. Back then DMC was one of those movies you see a trailer for and you've seen the first one so you think 'hey, that looks like an ok movie!' )
Oooo, that's in the AWE storybook I bought too! (well, sorta... it's the scene where Gov. and Norrie find out what happens if you stab the heart (Jones tells them) and it's when Becky tells Gov. Lizzie's "dead" and all that ) I soooo hope it's in the deleted scenes. My bro also said he read about one scene in the original script had the Kraken attack Norrie on the Flying Dutchman to get Davy's heart and that showed why Becky had Davy kill the Kraken.... wish they had kept that in the movie too.
aye, huzzay for Norrie! He'll always be alive in my heart

I think most people weren't expecting to have to THINK about the plot as much as you have to.
Is it? Awesome! Is it like a picture book or the actual novel? That should've been in the movie, we need more Norrie!
Aww, I know what you mean! *:hug:s Norrie*
btw, are you going to bump up the Willabeth thread?

Wow, it's been awhile. I should probably have come here after AWE, to have a good ol' rant and a cry.
AWE would be a much more better film, if they hadn't killed off Norrington needlessly. I wouldn't have minded so much if he had died for a reason, but dying after being stabbed by a fish-man, who is not as good with a sword as he is, was not the way he should have gone.
*shakes head*

But that's part of the reason I love PotC as much as I do now! I love it for all the reasons I've heard it criticized for. indepth story, lots of characters, lots of locations. It's basically a picture book... and, boy, does it have some awesome pictures in it! three of the best have Norrie in them... (one is of Mr. Mercer, Norrie, Becky, and Gov. Swann ) however it also told a little bit about the movie... and all the quotes in it are exact. it's called (simply enough) the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Storybook. Aye! More Norrie and Becky and less Sao Feng would've definitly been welcome! oh, gee, I guess I should. *PD skips off to bump it up *Johnny's Fan wrote: Wow, it's been awhile. hey, welcome, JF! come to join Anie and me in our lonely Norrie talk, aye?
Oh, I totally agree! I guess he was sort of dieing for a good reason (to save Lizzie, of course) but the way he just turned around when she left and Bootstrap stabbed him right then and there was kind of.... sudden. They didn't even take the time to do..... anything! I really wish if they HAD to kill him they would've waited 'til the final battle and had him do something REALLY heroic there... not saying that he wasn't a hero the way they wrote his ending (giving up his live for Liz was extremely heroic) but the way they just had him turn around and get stabbed was a less than satisfying way to end such a good character.

*shakes head* I agree! I think it was amazing how he died for Elizabeth, I just didn't like how it was so sudden and they cut away so quickly. You bring up a good point too, Bootstrap wasn't as good a swordsman so it really doesn't make much sense. Calloniel (PD) wrote: exactly! But that's part of the reason I love PotC as much as I do now!
