Oh! I love Barbossa! I thought that he was a great villian in the first movie, but now I am not too sure if he is the villian or not. :P

I don't believe Barbossa is a total bad guy (I think Beckett and Jones take on that role now ;))... that's what's so neat about the writers bringing him back. You get to see another side of him not only obsessed with getting the curse lifted.... and how could he be totally evil with a monkey like Jack?

I don't see Babby as a bad guy either. In COTBP, he was doing what comes naturally to pirates so although he was Jack's foe, I never saw him as the villain really.

I think one of my favorite non-canon Barbossa lines ever (okay, I admit, I wrote it in a fanfic once, but I really do think it fits his character) is "I'm hardly what you'd call 'evil.' I'm more of an opportunist with a convenient lack of morals."

And really, it's true. I think Barbossa, despite his apparent change of sides in AWE, is one of the most consistent and trustworthy characters in the trilogy. He always does precisely as he says -no more, no less- and once he's committed to something, he stays committed. Yes, he's also a master at finding loopholes ("It was you who failed to specify when or where"), but we never actually see him go back on his word. And as far as his actions go, he'll do whatever need be done to accomplish his goal or fulfill his word. If someone else is inconvenienced by that, then that's their problem. :yes:

Now that I think about it.. Barbossa wasn't exactly "evil" in the first movie. He was definetly an oppurtunist, I can't really think of any other way to put it.

Oh yeah, the 2nd movie was pretty complicated, and that was nothing compared to the third. Oh my goodness! However, I am just happy that he should be in the 4th. Then, without Elizabeth/Will, it should be a little less complex, hopefully.
