Hello all ye Snape/Lily fans! Basically, this club will be dedicated not only to the Potions Master himself, but to the girl of whom he had an unrequieted love for, and most importantly, to them as a pairing. Everyone is free to fangirl/discuss all aspects of their friendship and the extent of their relationship, whether you view it as romantic or not. :)

A banner for this lovely club is forthcoming, so keep your eyes peeled.

Co-Founders: Larael, Pandora, & Nurrantiel Mashiara

Well, I would've felt bad not putting you as a co-founder, considering you were there when the idea was born and you were most enthusiastic about it. :) We're all members one and the same though. Hopefully we won't be the only three. :P

Very true. Even though everyone should be a Snily shipper :teehee: you don't have to join. We shall just shun you until you do.

I kid, I kid. But welcome! So what do we all love the most about Snily? The unrequited love? The total adorableness of Snape in love? Or what?

Well even though I have renounced Harry Potter, I must join this club. :P

Why?

Because I was a Snape/Lily shipper from Book 1 WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back when it first came out. OH yeah. I'm an original Snape/Lily shipper. Everyone though I was nuts for thinking it. But looky now!! Now EVERYONE is doing it. :P

So I must join, because it's one of the greatest, most romantic, and heartbreaking ships/relationships of the series. And while I have seething hatred for the series now, many thanks to the wonderous woman who must've been on crack when she wrote the last book, I still LOVE the Snape/Lily ship. :D

HURRAH!

XD! No no, you're not forcing me to join. I actually supported this pairing for a while now...mostly because of my friend but yeah. :)

It is an honour to have such a long-term lover of this ship in our presence, Monty. ;)

What do I love most about Snape/Lily? The mere fact that Snape is not evil like everyone is led to believe because of his love for Lily. It's unrequieted [which I'm a sucker for] and it's totally unexpected in his character. It makes him a truly 3 dimensional character.

So, leading off what Monty was talking about, how long have you all be Snily shippers, or when did you first take notice of the "ship"?

Huzzah for shipping since the first book! I have to say I'm a later convert, right around book five. That's when we get his "worst memory" and when I first thought "oh hey, he might have liked her!"

My favorite thing is unrequited love (I just love it) and the fact that it makes Snape that much more interesting. Here we have a character that we think is evil, working for the other side, ready to let Harry die at any moment, and yet no. He's totally in love with Lily. So sweet!

Wait a minute! Come back here, JF! We could use people like you to generate some good discussion in here. ;)

I suppose I'm a late convert as well when you compare me to Monty. My story is basically the same as yours, Nurr. I began to notice something was up around the second or third time I read the Snape's Worst Memory chapter in OotP. I didn't really think about the possibility of a relationship there until after HBP though since Snape's loyalty was thrown into question.

So, I'm assuming that most of us (at least a few of us) have seen the reviews of the HBP screenings. Anyone else excited about Snape's line?

Lol. You should've seen what JF wrote in the HBP movie thread. She didn't even have to say the exact line and I knew what she was talking about. In her words I "probably squee'd my way into next week", which is entirely true. Not to get too spoiler-y, but I had no idea they were going to make the 'ship' so... obvious in this movie. :P

^ If you think that was funny, you should have seen my face when I read that. Smoke coming out of my ears would probably help you to visualize it.

I just remember when the 4th book came out, and Harry Potter was a happy fandom for me. I remember a televised interview with J.K Rowling, with a well known news correspondant, and I remember him saying to her, something like "we're not going to read that Professor Snape had a crush on Harry's mother or anything silly like that?" and she laughed and said "that wouldn't be happening".

Ah-ha! Ah-ha! Ah-ha!

.......

There are two things I hate both in films and TV that they do to characters I love.

One - Reduce an awesome character to a child. Darth Vader, the ultimate awesome villain that he is, are we asking ourselves, I wonder what he was like as a kiddie? No, we don't. Was the mystery and wonder surrounding his youth left to the imagination? No, it wasn't. Not only did we see whiny Anakin, testy Anakin but love-sick Anakin. :yuck: It's only because my mind has had 11 years of Darth Vader that I can block out all this and resume my Darth Vader worshipping unniterrupted.

The same has to be said of Snape. I don't need to have witnessed parts of his youth to understand why he became how he was. I don't need to have read all about his pitiful home life and this, that and the other. For me, it spoils the character of Severus Snape the man. It's uncovering parts of him that don't need to be revealed to understand his character.

Two - Making a character's choice in life be determined by a love he has lost. To me, the whole reason behind Snape being Lily is... icky. It really is. I'm so ashamed I didn't see it coming, because it was getting more and more obvious with each book. Awesome characters like Snape, do not need to have their motivations explained by a romance that doesn't add up, and sounds almost as if it was chucked in at the last minute for some oomph.

I still have not recovered from this part of HP. I'm a huge romantic, I ship many things, canon and non-canon, but this "romance" has never captured my imagination, and has never made me think it serves as the reason behind everything Snape ever did. These sort of tales have to be believable and well written. I don't think this was either. J.K Rowling is not Charles Dickens and Severus Snape is not Sidney Cardew. And unfortunately, a lot of "memorable" Snape scenes and lines from the 7th book, which no doubt make lots of people sigh and squee, literally, I want to throw something heavy at someone and fetch a bucket.

Snape, eavesdrops on Dumbledore, realises he has literally sentenced people he knew from school to death, by this time is already becoming disillusioned with Voldemort, goes to Dumbledore with the information, Dumbledore gives him the what for, for being a part of Voldemort's group, Snape is not happy that he is the cause for the Potter's death and in payment says he will serve Dumbledore because he owes it.

Not perfect, but I'm pretty sure she could have done something with that. She is a writer after all.

So there you go. In a nutshell, my feelings on the whole ship (toned down by a considerable amount ;)).
