It's so tragic, really...I read the tale in which Arwen goes to Lothlorien, as if it's all she has left. I can imagine it so grey and cold and forlorn...(sobs)

I just read that too Miriel! And it is so heartbreaking...I was just trying to make sense of it--to find a silver lining. But I am still looking for it and crying.... *dries eyes on sleeve*

I think it is one of those tales that you like it BECAUSE it is so sad...which is an accomplishment because I normally don't like sad endings.

Yeah, sometimes we resonate with sad because we soooo understand it. Reminds me of the lyrics to one of Elton John's songs:
Guess there are times when we all need to share a little pain
And ironing out the rough spots
Is the hardest part when memories remain
And it's times like these when we all need to hear the radio
`Cause from the lips of some old singer
We can share the troubles we already know
Turn them on, turn them on
Turn on those sad songs
When all hope is gone
Why don't you tune in and turn them on
They reach into your room
Just feel their gentle touch
When all hope is gone
Sad songs say so much
If someone else is suffering enough to write it down
When every single word makes sense
Then it's easier to have those songs around
The kick inside is in the line that finally gets to you
and it feels so good to hurt so bad
And suffer just enough to sing the blues

hmm I think not all elvenplaces would dissapear... I am not sure, but I mean that Legolas lead a group of elves. elves who had decided to go not to the undying lands.... so, there was at least one elf place. and this is a thing who is really not sure... but some remember about a book tells me that they go to Lothlorien... (tell me if I am wrong)
(p.s sorry for the bad english )

Well if men are just as they are now today those places would probbly be inhabited by those men, you know like pople coming to live into the Elvish places...maybe Aragorn would stop them but not sure

Well, those places would probably not have been inhabited by men during Aragorn's lifetime, rather, it would have happened later, after the population of men had increased.

Lol, Aerlinniel. I think that those who would be walking around cutting down trees and stuff wouldn't even know the history of Lothlórien. I think that the Elven places would have been forgotten.

Neither do I. I always imagined that they were abandoned and covered by weeds and served only as haven for travelers or later historicans.

I'd like to think that although the Elven magic and the power of Nenya would fade, that the places would remain as they were, simply without the magic.

I don;t believe that they DISAPPEAR, exactly, but their magic would certainly fade away. Even if Men tried to save Lothlorien and Rivendell, they don't have any magic with which to do so. If I understand correctly, all of the magic - for lack of a better word - left middle-earth with the Rings of Power. I really love how its done in the movies. When Arwen comes back to Rivendell after Seeing her son, you can see that it isn't all bright and beautiful as it was when Frodo went there. It looks kind of faded, and the vines are brown and dead-looking and there are dead leaves everywhere.

Do you think the elven magic would be strong enought to make them disapper?

But wouldn't have Rivendell be left to Elrond's sons and thier descendants instead of being abandoned?

Yeah, I think Those places are safe for a thousand or two thousand years at least.
