I also love The Battle of the Pelennor Fields. Everyone is so incredibly brave. That chapter always inspires me to keep going on whatever I feel like giving up on.

Hmm...I love that chapter, mainly because it's a defining moment for both Eowyn and Aragorn's characters.

Well I finshed reading the actual book for the first time last night (all but the appendixes...but I am working on those). So I would have to say the Houses of Healing is my favorite chapter. Howeer there were Many that I enjoyed greatly. Indeed it was hard to pick just one. I love drama and I love Faramir and Eowyn and Merry. That chapter had a nice mix to it as well. Merry and Aragorn talking about the pipeweed was hystericly funny, Eowyn Faramir and Merry being so close to death was dramatic, and the parts with Eomer and Aragorn and Eowyn was really sweet...kind of. :teehee: The only thing that could have made that chapter better would have been Legolas. ;)

Personally, I have no favorite chapter. The Lord of the Rings is one of the greatest books and tells one of the greatest adventures ever. So I think you have to get a view of the whole story. Reading one or two chapters only, it's monotony. And i cannot believe that this was Tokiens dream to be monotonous. I think he wanna show us the differrence.

Most favorite would have to be The Steward & the King, The Battle of the Pelloner fields, The Houses of Healing, and Minas Tirith, and the Paths of the Dead.

I agree! Return of the King was quite a strong tale! I would add to your list 'Passing iof the Grey Company' I found it quite intense, especially the first time I read it, not knowing who the mysterious riders were who approached King Theoden's party in haste.

I think this year I am going to read through the whole tale again. It's been a long time (2004) since I read the whole thing.

I can't single out a favorite, but I did like Scouring of the Shire. I like seeing Hobbits be boss. Also I like the fact that Saruman and Grima died finally.

I must confess that I’m scratching my head in puzzlement a bit about the whole “favorite chapter” concept. But when pressed for an answer I would choose the very last chapter of the book, just for the last five words of this epic (sans appendices): Sam’s so very domestic, return-to-sanity comment “Well, I’m back,” {he said}. And one of the best decisions in the filming of PJ’s near-fanfic was to have RoTK the movie end with exactly these three words (though I can’t help speculating that he may have been threatened by Boyens, Walsh & Co. with unspeakable punishments if he had done otherwise …)

That's a really good one! And I agree with you on the ending choice. However, how else would you have ended it? You can't cut that out. Continuity, people! Gotta tie up all the loose ends!

Who knows what PJ might come up with on a bad day? To be truthful, I think I really don't want to know! ;-)
