In the previews I've fallen in love with Joseph. He just seems like the best husband, ever.

Wow I leave this thread for one day and.....!!! Anyway, I didn't realize how many people on here would want to see it! (I love your avvie, Riniel!)
Yes, Joseph is a very nice husband... when you see the movie, you really start to understand how much he had to cope with when accepting Mary as his wife, even when she was pregnant.

I've always learned Mary was 14-16. Looks like a great movie, can't wait to see it!

No matter how much I protest, I will be seeing this movie, as it is "bring our horrid atheist son back to the church" year.
Anyway... It looks pretty, which is good. Especially these guys: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/nativit ... es&nopop=1 The kings, right? *Wants to know what kind of budget they had*

I thought they were the three wise men? I may be wrong. I know nothing of the story.

kitoky, you're right - they were wise men, not kings. however, the bible never specifies a number - people presumed three because they brought three gifts (gold, frankincense and myrrh), and having three is aesthetically pleasing for paintings and the like, so it stuck. all we really know for certain though is that there were more than one.
timtimtimtim - it sounds like they're probably going about it the wrong way, but your parents only want you to know Christ because they love you and they want you to experience how awesome He is. i can understand how you're feeling - having someone else's faith rammed down your throat is bound to make you sick - and if you want to talk about any of the stuff your parents are pushing on you, feel free to pm me.

Oh. Okay, wise men. I didn't know that the number was guessed.
I am slightly hesitant about PMing you, as I having the amazing ability to get anyone who I talk to about my lack of belief angry.

^Good.
For the people who have seen the movie: Do they portray the Romans correctly? Or are they stereotypically evil?

Let me remind everyone that even though this movie's theme is religious, we do have a no-discussing-religion rule, so please try to keep discussions limited to the movie itself (i.e., leave out anything religious that isn't strongly relevant to the movie itself). Otherwise you will have the choice of being thwacked over the head with a fish or hammer. Your choice.

I'm hoping the score will be good too I've seen The Passion of the Christ twice. Very gory and graphic but a good film. Very confusing for a non-Christian like me though!
The Passion is a very emotional film with the gory and blood! that no has dared to show before in a Jesus film. Have not seen the Nativity Story yet? only just heard of it?

Lecture accepted, Arwen.
And they do portray the Romans a bit harshly... I would have them go into the life or mind of one soldier who was say, drafted, and dragged away from his family, and didnt' really want to kill all those people... Any way, those three men are the wise men, or astrologists. They are also the comic relief.

Kitoky wrote: I thought they were the three wise men? I may be wrong. I know nothing of the story. According to history there were "wise men from the east" or "magi" not Kings. The kings idea evolved over the years because of the richness and expense of their gifts, and the number (3) because of the number of gifts. Based on everything I've been told and have read, these magi were nothing more or less than court astrologers. *looks in Wikipedia* Yup, Wikipedia agrees, and says they were probably from Persia. It also says they are Quote: are Zoroastrian judicial astrologers Never heard of Zoroastrian before.

*Whizzes off to my dictionary*
Zoroastrianism |?zôr??astr???niz?m| noun. A monotheistic pre-Islamic religion of ancient Persia founded by Zoroaster in the 6th century BC. According to the teachings of Zoroaster, the supreme god, named Ahura Mazda, created twin spirits, one of which chose truth and light, the other untruth and darkness. Later writings present a more dualistic cosmology in which the struggle is between Ahura Mazda (Ormazd) and the evil spirit Ahriman. The scriptures of Zoroastrianism are the Zend-Avesta. The language survives in isolated areas of Iran and in India, where its followers are known as Parsees.
It's not that great a definition, but it works. My dad's really into history, especially Biblical history, so I shall ask him and see what he knows about the Magi.
