I think basically (and this stems back from the good ol' days of the black and white films) that you could have any nationality being played by an British person a with a nice clipped accent and no-one would mind. You get an American to play the same roles.....and everyone would hate it. It's weird but that the way it seems to work. Hence, the reason I think, Andre etc, have nice English accents - they couldn't master the French accent but no-one minds anyway.

I didn't mind that very much, but maybe it's...um...because I'm American. *hides* Nevertheless, I thought it was natural for people to have different accents and such...was Raoul actually French, if he and Christine had grown up together? I thought she was Swedish...or maybe she grew up in France too...
Well, I really odn't know what I'm talking about, so I'll just stop.

 I don't think it really matters if you have the same accent as the person in question. I mean, would you have wanted Frodo to talk like a Texan or someone from New York? No. Just the same as I wouldn't have wanted him to sound like someone from Liverpool *shudder* or London. I think it's something to do with the believablity factor. Having any of the POTO (or even LOTR) cast with an American accent just seems weird and out of character.
But that might just be me.

Christine is indeed Swedish but I think she grew up in France.

i really don't care about the different accents. i mean some times i do think its funny and ill go " hey there in france but there using spanish words" or something like that, but i mean they could have grown up somewhere then moved to another country, but it really doesn't bother me

Arwen the webmaster wrote: I wish I could sing the Phantom songs, but Christine's are mostly too high for my range, and Raoul's and the Phantom's parts are too low, and if I move them an octave up then they're too high. So I'm stuck just sort of humming along. Some of Christine's parts are ridiculously high, though. The last note she hits in "The Phantom of the Opera" is the E above the C two octaves above middle C, which I can't even hit with a squeak.
Poor you! I would be gutted if i couldn't sing all the songs! I can just about reach Christine's range - some of the Phantom's a bit hard but i get round it by sounding stupid! But that E is a bit crazy... I would love to meet the person other than Emmy who can do that...

Lol, too true. It's weird because if anyone ever said to me (yeah right) you can pick any role in POTO and you can play them, I would always say the Phantom. I would LOVE to play the Phantom on stage. I know, it's weird.

I can hit Christine's notes, but I can't exactly sound great on the super high ones. But the guy parts are even worse...I sound like a toad when I go down low.
That's actually sort of my dream, to play Christine in POTO, on a stage, somehow, somewhere...
Most people don't like her very much...but I can sort of relate to her.

Not like THAT. But having to make difficult choices and getting caught up in the Phantom's music and everything.
Pretty much during the course of the movie, I'm thinking the same thing she is at the moment. I understand what she does and why. A lot of people miss some good lines she has, and how strong she was to get through the whole ordeal. It may seem like she's just there for the two males to fight over, but I don't see it that way.

i don't think that's weird. if i could play any part in all of musical theatre it would be javert in les miserables (and incase you don't know the show, javert is a man).
