"Fifty years from now, the sun is dying, and mankind is dying with it. Our last hope: a spaceship and a crew of eight men and women. They carry a device which will breathe new life into the star. But deep into their voyage, out of radio contact with Earth, their mission is starting to unravel. There is an accident, a fatal mistake, and a distress beacon from a spaceship that disappeared seven years earlier. Soon the crew is fighting not only for their lives, but their sanity."

To those who have seen it, how is it? As amazingly spectacular as expected?
I have to wait until September for it to be released in the US. *cries*

Lucky person. I was pretty surprised at the amount of good ratings it has gotten on RT. Normally Sci-Fi stuff gets terrible reviews.
Philosophical is good, but I'm just as excited for the actors and the director.

Beautiful movie!! Absolutely well done... if they could've just made a decent ending for it... the movie really deserves it. *dramatic sigh*
It had the most amazing pictures and colours and the actors were great. I liked how their faces weren't overused, so it didn't take attention away from the plot. I liked the poetic and downplayed way of depicting life onboard the space...umm thing...
They briefly touched on ethical subjects but it could have been elaborated on... it fell back to the safe (boring) mainstream path too quickly.
Ohh and the ending was horrible. It ruined the whole movie when it went all Alien... just ruined the atmosphere that had been built up during the movie in poorly made action ending... But I think it's good it wasn't a Hollywood director who made it anyway....
And it made me want to read the book now.

I knew there was a thread like this somewhere! I saw the movie last week, and since then, I'm obsessed with it! I really liked it, which is weird, 'cause usually I don't like sci-fi.
There's really a book, Ea? I've been looking for something like that, but I couldn't find anything!

I saw this fairly recently as well and was really pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it.
Reminded me a bit of Event Horizon, which isn't a bad thing imo.

yeah, also I really liked how Cillian Murphy plays the character of Capa. Well all the characters are great, by far. Also, there are a lot of things about the characters that are not told in the movie, I read them on www.sunshinefan.com , and all this is making me like the movie even more.

Cillian was excellent. He's such a great actor and the rest of the cast was very good too.

Aww thanks I spent the whole morning working on a Sunshine banner, 'cause I really wanted one, but it seemed that I wasn't able to do a decent one. Finally I came out with that one

Ohh, that's an old thread!! Yeah, there's a book. I haven't read it - yet, but I just googled the author, it's Alex Garland, the guy who wrote The Beach, which was also made into a movie (Leonardo DiCaprio). I did read that book and loved it, I wasn't too fond of the movie though.. too spacey and action-ish, compared to the book. Even though I did see the movie before I read the book.

No problem, glad I could help. And thanks for the link, I'll check that out later.
Please come back here and tell us what you think of the book if you get to read it. I'm sure I would like it, as Alex Garland was really good at the psycological descriptions of the characters in The Beach.
