Yes, yes, they're definitely worth oggling over and admiring. Whoever designed them did a fantastic job.

Do you think they're good enough to be nominated for next year's Oscars?

The costumes? Most definitely. They were some of the best I've ever seen for a historical drama.

I think any movie that has costumes that elaborate will get nominated at least, if not winning. A lot of years the costume nominees are very everyday-type clothes.

^Really? I don't think costumes are really more prominent for the period films----and if a film is about 1940's and later, they usually don't get nominated for their wardrobe, which is sad.

Larael wrote: This just came out yesterday in the UK, and I've just come back from seeing it. Personally, I like LadyElarinya's brothers summary of it - it really is a sex movie. The acting certainly wasn't up to par [and don't get me wrong, I think Eric Bana, Natalie Portman, and Scarlet Johanson are all brilliant actors/actresses!], and every other scene it seemed like featured Eric Bana with one of the 2 girls.
Just a warning to those looking for a historically accurate movie - it's not. Sure, it follows the story well enough to a certain degree, but there was definitely some creative lisense involved as well. Overall, if you don't like the idea of adultery, [would-be] incest, sex, rape and heading chopping I wouldn't suggest see this movie.
hmmm, really?
I was sort of wondering about this film... just because it caught my interest when I first saw the trailer. (although I didn't ever post here about it... too lazy ) And the cast and time period caught my eye too. It had great potential... I'm sorry to hear that it's mostly like I feared it would be. All about the sex. hmmm, that's really too bad (although like some of you have said, it's not really surprising, I guess *sigh*). I probably won't end up seeing it now just because I don't want to wade through all that other stuff just to see some of the good things, the creativity, and the costumes (I ADORE costumes in period movies! ). Meh, oh well.......

I saw this on Friday night and actually quite liked it. The costumes were amazing, and I definitely think they deserve an Oscar.
As for the whole plot...well, I haven't read the book or really researched any of the actual historical events, so I had nothing wrong with it. Yes, there were many sex scenes, but it wasn't really like many movies that just throw in sex because that's what people want to see - the sex was there because it was the whole basis of the story line. It was a bit depressing, but also very interesting. Personally, I thought Natalie Portman did a great job acting...Eric Bana and Scarlett were alright.
But yes, if you are severely bothered by sex [almost] incest, or beheading (like Larael said), don't see the movie

I saw this last Thursday and loved it. I completely agree- the costumes were amazing.
With the plot- I did read the book, and when I heard they were making a movie out of it I fully expected it to be rated "R". It may be surprising, but there is actually a lot more sex in the book. It really is a lot about sex, I suppose, but as Gilraen said- it's not just thrown in there, it really is a lot what the whole story was. In history, as well. I thought that the actors did a very good job- Anne Boleyn's execution in particular was very good. And I love how the movie ended with Elizabeth.

A heavy film. Not one I think I'd want to watch again. I thought Natalie Portman was particularly good. I was quite surprised and impressed by her actually.
Pretty good movie. Beautiful cinematography and costumes.

I saw this. I really liked it. I thought that both Natalie Portman and Scarlet Johansen were fantastic. Eric Bana, while I love him to death... all I could think was, "Ha ha. Stop being weird. You're not Henry VIII. You're Eric Bana."
Jim Sturgess was in this one too, and I LOVE him.
And yes, the costumes were stunning.

I saw the movie a few weeks ago, and while I loved the costumes, the plotline was allright. I really liked the book alot better.

I never read the book so can't compare it to anything but history.
Thinking about making a manipulation of Bana from this film with the caption, "You won't like him when he's angry." Maybe I'll make his face green... *rofl* I was kidding about that when we watched it, "Watch out Anne, you're going to make him turn green..."
Eric Bana really didn't seem like The Hulk though. Sometimes you can't help but keep seeing people in a new movie as the character before, but he was good.

I just watched the film on Youtube this afternoon, and seriously O_o Wow, what a fantastic movie! It left out a lot of the good parts in the book though; such as Mary's relationship with William Stafford and Anne's with Henry Percy. It was presented beautifully though, the costumes and scenery were brilliant!

I liked how George's wife Jane Parker was portrayed in the movie, though she was a lot cooler in the book.
