I never thought Eragon was a great book to begin with, and I wasn't too happy when I found out they were making the movie...

Well, then what're ya doing here? :P

I'm clinging to the hope that there will be a remake in Christopher Paolini's lifetime. I wish they could just do it over, make it a three hour film, keeping only Ed and Mr. Irons and possibly that Garrett kid.

As much as I hate to admit it, and I don't want to, by all means possible, compare Eragon to Lord of the Rings. I thought if only they had a good director, like PJ, that could really understand the meaning of a good developing plot, excellent character development, and being true to the book (in which I've not read yet) then it might've had a good chance of being a success like LOTR or even Narnia.

Okay, so, I read what people were saying about the movie, and thought, "Meh, they're just being purists. I'm not like that." So, I thought I'd be okay seeing it. When I told my dad about that, he agreed. (He picked up Eragon the day after I did, and finished it even quicker than I!)
So anyway, we went together to see it on Satruday.

...Lo and behold. We're not 1 minute into the film, and I lean over...

"Dad. Those elves didn't have... beards, did they?"

Well. Bearded elves. Ah, I'm not a purist, I think to myself. I can handle it.

The movie goes on. Arya knows exactly what happens to the Egg... errr, okay. I'm not a purist.

Awwww. Look at the ickle widdle dwagon baby!!! :teehee:

Saphira: *radiates such an enormous amount of over-cuteness, she burns Eragon's hand*

Eragon: Owie. Well. What are you? You're not a dragon, I can see that. Hmm. Feathers. A chicken? No... you've got fuzz on your head. A kitty cat? Yeah. A kitty cat. So. You need... Milk!

Saphira: Mew. *translation: Actually, I'm past the milk stage. If you didn't notice, the past .5 miliseconds have been spent going through one of my amazing growth spurts, so I'm ready to hunt mice.*

Eragon: ...Right. Go get the mousies, then!

Saphira: Mew.

I am not a purist. I am not a purist.

Anywho, as the movie progresses, I feel myself slipping farther and farther into the realms to purism.

Angela: *tinkle tinkle bling bling*

I catch myself rolling my eyes. What? I'm not an eye-roller! ...Okay, so maybe I am, but not at movies!!

At one point, I find myself imagining a discussion at the script-writing table.

Writer #1: Ya know, this bit where Ajihad mistrusts Murtagh and locks him up. I really think we can play this up a bit.

Writer #2: Great idea! I know! Let's get the viewers' emotions up by first making Ajihad know he's Morzan's son without any explanation!

Writer #1: Wonderful! And then we can have Murtagh angst about him!

Writer #2: Of course. We can't have any money-making film without a bit of poorly-acted angst.

Writer #1: Oooh, and instead of Murtagh being locked up in a room, let's have him...

Writer #2: Put into a cage!!!

Writer #1: In the middle of the courtyard thing!

Writer #2: So that all the fangirls can ogle him at their lesure!!!

Murtagh: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.....................!!!!!

...My dad and I had a very pleasent time driving home, being purists.

^*laughs out loud*

OK, you're writer's discussion is making me laugh seriously...

My sister and I have great fun discussing the problems of the movie. I'm not a purist, but I like to slip into purism at times just for fun.

Teehee, that made me laugh!

I'll admit, when I was watching it in the theater me and my sister actually laughed out loud. Some of it was just, comical it was so bad.

I hardly think not liking the movie counts as 'purism'. Being angry about the details is purism. That...that is just ridiculous.

Oh my goodness. That writer's conversation made me laugh til i cried.

I still have yet to see the movie. I'm considering not going. :P

My sister saw it today. She said it was really bad...cheesy and a rip-off of a million other stories. I suppose that's partially the book as well. I personally don't plan on seeing it in theatres, especially now that I see some of the bad comments on here.

Yeah, that's what my sister said.

I disagree!

I saw it last night, with two of my friends. They both thought it was amazing and really liked it, and though there were bits I thought could have been done better I liked it too.

Brom: Awesome! I cried when he died, he was so good...and I love how he's not all in awe of Eragon, and tells him when he messes up. I don't remember it being Eragon's fault that Brom dies in the book, though...?

Eragon: Much better than I expected. I really hated how he was all arrogant about rescuing Arya, but I felt sad for him when Roran left and he was pretty cool for the rest of it.

Arya: Good at the beginning, I liked her and she was properly defiant to Durza. There were a couple moments later on that I thought were a bit too up-close and personal for aloof-elf-lady, like the end when she says "Tomorrow may see us together again." And as my friend Ami pointed out - the audience didn't know she was an elf. If they hadn't read the book, they wouldn't know, because nobody ever says it. Weird. And when Durza poisons her and then she escapes, when he activates it or whatever I didn't really like how she falls and goes "Eragon...!" It seemed very damsel-in-distress-y.

Murtagh: Pretty cool, but where was he? When we all think he dies in the second movie, nobody will care because he was barely in the movie! And the cage thing I did NOT appreciate. The Varden are not barbarians, in the book they give him a nice room and everything.

Saphira: Awesome. I would have been rather disappointed if my dragon grew in bursts of light, though - I'd be like, where did my baby go?!

Durza: He gave me goosebumps. He seriously did. He was pretty deliciously evil.

Galbatorix: Annoying. What was with him talking...like...this? I just didn't really care...but that bit at the end with his dragon! I was kinda scared :)

Ajihad/Nasuada: Ajihad was okay. Nasuada came in without knocking! She seemed almost flirty! I was sort of mad about that.

Roran: Um, I really liked him, but at the beginning I had trouble telling who was Eragon and who was Roran :P

Um, let me think, other things...um, yeah, Angela was pretty horrible. What was with her talking about herself in third person? And I got a little confused on the part where Eragon dreams of Arya telling him only he can save her. Did Durza send the dream or did Arya? Because she doesn't seem to have much power over it and when ERagon does come she seems pretty horrified that he did.

Well, I've just named all the negative things, but altogether, it was way better than I expected, and I was sorry when it ended. And I was so scared Saphira was gonna die at the end! Even though I know she doesn't!

I KNOW! I was about ready to burst into tears because of Saphira at the end.. *sniff* Even though of course she dosn't die.... *cries* I DID cry when Brom died though! I liked the way that he flew on Saphira before dying, with that peaceful, calm look on his face... So sweet.

And I agree, I didn't really like Angela that much. They ruined her.

YES! Roran and Eragon look so much alike its scary! I can't believe the actors arn't related!

All in all, Saphira is my favorite character, both in the books and the movie. :D
