My sister saw it today. She said it was really bad...cheesy and a rip-off of a million other stories. I suppose that's partially the book as well. I personally don't plan on seeing it in theatres, especially now that I see some of the bad comments on here.

I'll admit, when I was watching it in the theater me and my sister actually laughed out loud. Some of it was just, comical it was so bad.

Yeah, that's what my sister said.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with you. Talk about bad editing! My dad commented on how everything took a day to happen. Brom and Eragon would arrive somewhere, and all of a sudden, it'd be dark outside.
Frankly, I was just embarassed.

-Brom was WAY to young, and way to rash. He's supposed to look like an old story teller, not some drunken man with an anger-management problem!
-Roran left without any explanation. And that whole scene when he's telling Eragon he has to leave is so random! He just says, "I'm leaving, have a good life."
-Arya gave signs of attraction toward Eragon. This really ticked me off. And she came off as a damsel in distress, not a powerful, skilled elf.
-Murtagh [my favorite character] was in the movie for a total of what, 2 miuntes? And he actually wanted to go to the Varden, and knew the way.
-Sapphira's voice made me cringe. I don't know why, but it sounded all wrong. And what was with feathers for her wings?!
-The Razac!! They're supposed to be hooded, not bug men!
-Angela looked like a witch.
-The music was cheesey and random.

Argh, I could go all day. The movie was a huge disappointment, that's it.

Roran did too have an explanation - Galbatorix's men were recruiting soldiers, and he wanted to escape them.

But...but...that makes him seem like a coward. :( And I always liked that he had to leave because he wanted to prepare a house for he and Katrina.

*sigh* I'm too much of a purist...

Wishing a character was kept the same doesn't make you a purist. :disgust: I guess we just got spoiled with LotR...it was all so book-like. I do wish Eragon was more like that. :(

*sigh* yes, well the only real thing I have agaist it is trying to cram a 600 pg. book into a 1 1/2 hour movie. its just not right. But its still a good movie. :D

But you have to keep in mind, many people already think it's too much like LotR. I think they changed a lot of things so that other people (who haven't read the books) will like it as a separate movie. Otherwise, people would immediately draw parallels between Brom and Gandalf, Arya and 'black-haired pointy-eared elven princesses', and the Razac and Ringwraiths.

I think by itself it was a great movie, and my mom and sister who have not read the books absolutely loved it. But after reading the book and then watching it... I was a little bit disappointed with a few things

- Arya. Basically everything about Arya drove me crazy. She looked nothing like a pictured her. She acted differently. And... well I like her in the books and I just couldn't stand her in the movie....
- The Razac weren't at all how I thought they should be. What was up with those bugs?
- Not enough of the Eragon and Brom traveling scenes.
- The battle at Farthen Dur was just really disappointing.
- Not near enough of Murtagh. Basically he just followed them around and said a few unimportant lines.
- That whole rapid Saphirra growth thing.... What was that about?

But like I said it was a good movie. It was just hard not to think about how different it was from the books. And I agree with the whole not wanting to seem to lotrish with Arya looking too much like Arwen and the Razac looking too much like Ringwraiths. But I still wish they could have done something a bit better.

I'm not sure I want to see it anymore...I have yet to hear a really positive review about it--to all reports, it seems to be worse than the book was, which is saying a lot. Sounds like they took all the interesting stuff from Murtagh, who was the only interesting character in there, so...

Ok so I finally had the time to come on here and add my lamentation to the rest.

I read the book two times and while I loved it the first time the second time I was able to realize a lot of the flaws and things but I still liked it and it is a great achievement for someone as young as Christopher. But anyway I wasn't particularly looking forward to the movie because, well it didn't look like it was going to be fantastic.

Then my brothers went to it (10 and 7 years old) with my dad when me and my sister were away and the boys all said they loved it was awesome ect. So then I took my sister to go see it and frankly we commented on how pathetic is was through the whole movie. We tried to be quite for the sake of the others in the theater but I think the people two rows ahead of us definitely knew we had read the books.

So now on to what was wrong with the movie:

It was different from the books. I think everyone would agree on this. The biggest sins here for me personally was
the shade: not scary-not cool (in the book I imagined him more like..."an servant of the enemy would look fairer and feel fouler")
Angela: way too weird and spooky. In the books she was a lot more approachable and she didn't have weird voices coming out of her during the fortune telling.
Solembum (the werecat): Wasn't in the movie!!!!! AHHHHH!!! He was my FAVORITE character! And he sets up some stuff for the Eldest.
That brings me too my next point: They cannot even make the Eldest because they left out so much stuff that ties in. Like Eragon blessing the child and the twins...the list goes on and on.

But even with all that stuff people who aren't as strict of purists maybe would have been able to accept the movie if it had better casting, editing, plot, script, acting ect. ect.

The casting was terrible the only good actor in the movie was Irons. (After brom died I turned to my sister and said "all right we can leave now they killed the only hope this movie had)

The editing...as has already been said was horrific. They'd get to those hero moments and then just sit there and sit there and sit there...and it's like "omgosh this is sooo cheesy"

The plot was just all over the place and made no sense.

And the script...very blah blah...cliché...exposition...cliche...

And so for all these reasons Eragon was a complete failure of a movie and anyone who hasn't seen it should spare themselves 6 bucks and a wasted hour and a half and go get a pizza and rent the Little Mermaid. And if for any reason these people who decided to ruin an ok, fun book decided to ruin the sequel to the ok, fun book I will not be giving them any money whatsoever and suggest that you don't either.

Thank you and that's all. Tune in next week for another episode of Meriadoc's Massacre of Mangled Movies.

~Merry

As said before, the Ra'zac are simply Imotep (sp?) from The Mummy is disguise.

I honestly don't think it was that bad. I think it could have been better, but I really enjoyed it. Maybe I'm just really not a book purist.

Yeah, i'm leaning more towards your opinion, Melda. It wasn't that bad, if you think about it.

Yeah, it totally could have been a lot worse. My friends, the two that I went with, both loved it.

I honestly don't see what's wrong with baby Saphira's eyes....I mean, babies look weird no matter WHAT species they are!

Um... there aren't very many positive reviews here... :P

But yeah... It could have been much worse. The acting was fairly decent (except for Galbatorix and Durza in my opinion).
