I think I would have been less bothered if you couldn't actually have seen her face and her eyes when she was burning. That was unnecessary cruelty for us Mrs. L fans. I never actually saw it coming to be honest, so maybe that's why it chilled me.

They all got what they had coming to them, except for poor Toby.

I watched it last night. It was better than the first time I saw it. I'm still a little upset that finding out that Mrs. L was as bad as Todd didn't change Toby's opinion. I understand why it didn't, but a think a little shock or something would've been nice. But that's just me.

I watched a lot of the special features. Tim and Depp are really funny in the interviews. Anyone else watched them?

I liked a lot this movie. Loyal to the original play but with the Burtonesque scence all of his fans were awaiting for.
To tell the truth, I think Johnny was fabolous, but... George Hearn wins it for me.Hands down. But they are very different. Must be because he's my ''Sweeney'' first and forever.
However, I never liked Angela Lansbury as Mrs Lovett. She's a good actress, but I never thought that she could do a woman like Nellie. You know, selfish, desperate and a bit cruel. She seemed a bit goofy(no offence) sometimes, nothing like a villain. More like a good grandma.
Helena, instead, for me, was very good as Lovett. She did made the character look evil.More than evil, sad and dark.
I understand why many don't like Anthony/Johanna.Their roles were longer in the play, but the film was more centered in Sweeney, so that was a side-plot.

I just saw it the other night, and finished it at 5 in the morning.... not a good idea...
It was so sad second time round. The bits I thought were hilarious were not that funny (as Sondheim said people should really only laugh from nervous tension and I think maybe that's what happened to me when I saw it in the cinema) as the first time, and I concentrated more on everything now I was at home.
Firstly, Sweeney is a fruitcake. I always thought there was a point where he sort of decided what he was doing.... I actually don't know what I thought as I can't remember now, but I was surprised about the way he was somehow.... I'm no longer yay for Sweeney anymore... maybe I glorified his character because it was Johnny, but I don't think he really is someone you can truly like.... which is odd for me to say because I like villains, misunderstood, bad guys etc.... hmm...
And poor Mrs. L. No-one is ever going to convince me she's evil. There were signs I missed all through the film of the mothering instinct she had. "It may be my soft heart but I do hate to see a boy treated like that" --- "Poor Johanna, deprived all these years without motherly affection, well we'll soon change that".
And the way she handles Sweeney, it's more like a child being indulged "oh, well I'll let him kill the people he wants and then it will be all alright". I think she was very naive really, to think that if she let him get his own way, and he had his revenge everything would be as it should. And I do think her tale is just as tragic, as she didn't want much from life really, just a house by the sea and Sweeney, and yet he never cared for her, just used her really. And I do think she had his best interests when she first told him about his wife, at that point she had no idea he would be returning to use the shop.
The ending is still one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen though.

I actually did not think that it was disgusting at all. My friend said that she never got grossed out by movies with blood in them, but when she watched this she couldnt even look at the screen half the time!
I think most of the reason why I didnt not think it was gross, because the blood was not realistic, because of the artsy-ness of the movie. And I guess im just used to watching scary movies.
I thought the movie was amazing. And I cant tell you how many times I have listened to the song "My Friends"
His voice is sooo amazing in it!

^I know, the blood looked like tomato juice! I can't stop listening to "Wait"... Helena's voice is so pretty, especially considering she's never really sung before.
*can't believe the words she hears from JF's mouth* A fruitcake? ...

Well he didn't kill Sweeney just because of revenge, he probably just snapped. I mean, he was put in the work house ever since he was born, and then he was picked up by an abusive barber. That man was killed, and the only person at ALL that has ever shown any kindness at all is Mrs. Lovett. He was shocked when Beadle fell to the ground and he found that pile of human remains, and he probably felt betrayed at first, but then Sweeney killed her, and she was the only person who cared for him at all. It was probably pretty easy to forget what she had done and instead blame everything that went wrong on Sweeney. Plus, he killed the only chance of him being part of a family.

Toby... I did not like Toby one bit... *walks away muttering under her breath*
YAY!! Someone else loves that song too!!!
I fell in love with it the first time I saw the play performed. And by falling in love with it, I thought it was the most genius piece of writing for a musical ever. XD I picked up most of it the first time I saw it, but one of my friends had the original soundtrack and I think I had that song on repeat for HOURS.
What strikes me as odd though, is that whether movie or on stage the one song that I walk away with stuck in my head is "Johanna." I don't know why, but I find myself walking around bellowing "JOOOOOOHHAAAAANNNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!"
The one thing I'm disappointed in the movie for leaving out is sort of explaining why Toby kills Sweeney. In the stage production, his hair turns completely white from shock and terror after what he's witnessed and realized. His driven insane and that's not really shown in the movie. I suppose they wanted it to be more of him avenging Mrs. L...but still. Like you said, Keyodie...he snaps. But the movie doesn't show us that. BAH! And let me tell you, when I saw it on stage, the moment he walked out with white hair, a crazed face and the razor to kill Todd, I was absolutely TERRIFIED. I was literally on the edge of my seat frozen from terror with tears streaming down my face (from the death of Lucy and the fear of Sweeney's death). And then Sweeney's killed and I think I kind of just lost it. (My classmates thought I was a nutcase after that because I was upset over such a morbid and scary show! )
