Here's some food for thought: (and this is purely of my making) In the Horse and His Boy by Lewis, Bree is a horse. In FOTR by Tolkien, the inn the Hobbits stay at is the "Prancing Pony" in Bree. Sound familiar?......

Every film, good or bad, will have similarities to another film. POTC 2, from what I hear, has similiraties to Star Wars. No problem. :-D

^ Its understandable that Tolkien and Lewis had simliarities in their books because from what I've heard they were colleges and friends.

But about the Eragon book... it does have MANY similarties of many books i have read including lord of the rings (in eragon there are creatures dressed in black robes; sound familiar, ring wraiths? and also creatures that seem much like orcs) Also in the Eldest, Eragon a human, Orik a dwarf and Arya and Elf are traveling back to Ellesmera... but does that sound familiar? An elf, human and dwarf traveling alone together at one point in the book...the same happens for Aragon, Legolas and Gimli? I wonder if Christopher Paolini got much of his material from reading these stories? No story or movie seems very original anymore. Nonetheless I do not condemn Eragon and enjoy it besides the whole love thing b/w Eragon and Arya.

Um, there's a site TN posted; I'm not sure. I'll ask her for the link. (or you could find a Tilda Swinton fansite and see if the site has any high rez pics.)

I don't see that Christopher Paolini would copy from Tolkien, being avid Tolkien fans, I think we condemn other fantasy series too much as 'copying'.

JK Rowling's Harry Potter is even said to be copied off of Tolkien, even though it has a whole different line of events and plots.

I do enjoy Narnia for the film because it was just an amazing piece of art. The picture, cinematography was beautifully put together and prior to seeing the film, I had not read the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. All throughout watching the film and book, I had not once thought of Lord of the Rings, because it was DIFFERENT. Who else do we know wrote of a quatet of brothers and sisters with the help of a Lion to defeat a cold-hearted ice witch? I don't recall anything like that.

People tend to have the misconception that if Lord of the Rings had a theme of a group of heroes defeating an evil warlord and the threat to humanity, that they will write off any other movie (series) as bullhocky. Those Tolkien fans tend not to see that themes in LOTR are universal themes, themes that have been around for nearly centuries back to B.C. times and the times of the Greeks.

Details such as Ringwraiths, Black Robes, Dementors, they're not all the same, but they SYMBOLIZE the same things. And isn't the symbolism more important than the actual material object/thing/villain?

I could write a novel today, set in modern day times, and say I was going to high school and I was picked on constantly by a bully that was always wearing black and very 'rockified'. I wouldn't be shamed for 'copying' offof Tolkien because I used it in a modern way; a non-fantasy way. And that's the factor that really initiates the finger-pointing. If we reserve a genre for someone; say we announce that Tolkien OWNS the fantasy genre. How are other fantasy writesr going to compete? What other materials can they use?

Well, that's my rant. Sorry.

Don't be, because I did mention Narnia in it. So it's not off-topic.

Hmmm... if the U.S. dollars conversions to pounds are correct and exact.... it should be...

42.99 Dollars = 22.0051 Pounds

I don't know about anyone else, but I was very disappointed in the extended film. Sure, I'm sure I'll love the other three discs, but there was only about 10 minutes of extended footage. It's stupid; I mean, how they would do sometihng like that.

LOTR, yes because there's so much extra footage that it can't be in the format of deleted scenes. Narnia, though, should have been.

No, there's not. The film has barely any extended scenes, save with the Running from Macready, shortly extended Mr. Beaver leading the children to his home, the Beaver's house, and the Battle scene, it only adds up to 10 minutes extra.

NightMystic was sure of the 30 minutes too; and so was I. but I counted it. There is no way it can be 30 minutes because the film wasn't that much longer. :explode:

[shrug] It's for the Narnia fans. I would like to get it because I liked the movie far better than the books.

And William Moseley? ;)

For heaven's sake, not another Willianite! :yuck: :explode:

*runs and hides*
No film, good or bad, can surpass the original books. The books are excellent. Though I'm very pleased with how it stayed close to the book. I'm really looking forward to HHB and TLB.

The books honestly made me want to tear my hair out.

But that's just me.

And what's wrong with us Willianites? We're no worse than the Bloomers. ;)
