I saw it earlier today. I thought it was good. I liked Edward Norton especially his voice. Jessica Biel was all right. I really didn't like her too much. Rufus Swell and Paul Giamatti were good, too.

The other day I saw an advertisement for the DVD and I had no idea why I had never heard of it before, especially since it seemed to be just the kind of thing I like.

And it was! Edward Norton was absolutely amazing, although I was a little disappointed that in the end he didn't really have supernatural powers. It did make it more realistic, but I always like things with more of a touch of fantasy.

^ same here and I am usually turned off by endings that totally kill the supernatural feeling of the film but in this case I wasn't disappointed for some reason.

I saw it a couple of days ago and I really liked it. It was smart, well acted, good plot, and I loved the romance.
(spoilers ahead)
I actually liked that it turned out that he didn't have supernatural powers. It made it seem more realistic (as Taurquende said) and made it (at least to me) seem smarter. Anyone can write a movie or such where a character can do whatever he pleases and has supernatural powers to clear it up but to write something that at first makes you beleive that the character has supernatural powers (which he/she does not) and then explain it all in a way that truely is plausable and makes sense, is something very special. In my opinion that made the movie all the more wonderful. I was impressed with.
(spoilers have ended. I just wanted to give a heads up to any who might not have seen or want to know the ending at this time...since several here haven't seen it yet)
I have only seen Jessica Biel twice. The first time I saw her she was okay I guess but in this one I think that she rocked. I was really impressed with her performance in this movie.
Edward Norton was good but he reminded me of an actor that used to play on one of my day time dramas...that started to bug me...but other than that I liked him allright.
I also think that Jessica and Edward did their best acting wise when the were in scenes together. They had nice actor/actress chemistry adn I really liked that. Not all actors and or actresses and can be put together be convincing as a couple but these two played the part well.
I highly recommend watching it and advise paying close attention to it when you do.

I actually like the movie... agreed, the plot wasn't the best and at times the movie felt long, but overall it was a nice movie. Sweet love story... at some horrific moment I was seriously convinced that she had died and it caused me immensely sadness - but the ending was happy :-)

Well, I finally managed to rent this movie about a week ago, and since then I have watched it three times! I really enjoyed it, and have made my family sit down to watch it (hence the extra 2 times) and they all loved the movie.

I though Edward Norton was really good, especially during the end (after Sophie's "death") when most of his emotion comes out through his eyes. Paul Giamatti was brilliant, and Jessica Biel was quite good. I thought their vague accents worked really well. In my opinion, the director did an amazing job.

I would definitely recommend it! :D

I just saw it this weekend! :D My mom and I had seen the Prestige in theaters, and so when we rented this, we were hoping for something as good. We both agreed, though, that we liked the Prestige quite a bit more =/ I did like the Illusionist, but it just seemed a little slow....

It was OK though :)

I don't think it's all fair to compare The Illusionist with The Prestige. It is easy to draw the parallels because both movies deal with magicians and tricks, but the plots are different. One is the competition between the two magicians, and even though it started out as a fight about love, it turned away from that throughout the movie. The Illusionist is basically a classical love story, wrapped in a pretty setting (very pretty actually!!!) and with the magical and supernatural aspect as a fresh twist!

I watched the movie, and I have to admit it goes really slow at the beginning. But, if you stick through it and watch the whole things its quite good. I love all the magical tricks that he does, and of course the plot twist at the end was genius. It does have romance too.

I haven't seen the Prestige yet, but I plan too. I don't really think you can compare them though.
