Movie musicals.... well, does Cats count?

That's my absolute favorite. I've seen it on stage a couple of times and I've got it on video, but undoftunately I haven't been able to watch it lately due to the ancientness of VHS...
I adore the dancing, the songs and the dancing... not to mention the choreography... and the dancing!! :P

*rugby tackles Eä*

Yay! I love Cats! I first recorded it from TV...then my tape wore itself out because I watched it too much....then I bought the video and it wore itself out because I watched it too much so now I have the 2 disc DVD! :teehee: I also saw it on stage which was a wonderful nevr-to-be-forgotten experience. I love Cats so much, and it also made me appreciate other musicals as before I saw it, I wasn't fond of musicals.

*rugbytackled* Owh.. attacked British-style!! lol

Cats was the first musical I ever saw live on stage and one of my first experiences with theater in general. Before that I had only seen a couple of amateaur productions, so you can imagine how I was literally - and mentally - blown away!! It was true magic right before my eyes, the way they danced, their singing, the stage, the decorations!!
I have a slight feeling that seeing Cats might have inspired me later to take dancing classes. I like their smooth feline moves, it is much like the way I prefer dancing...
I had a Cats-crazed period where I put Demeter as my username every time I signed up for something, because she sings Macavity, which I liked so much. :-)

*corrects the horrible mis-spelling in own previous post* What an alternative spelling of 'unfortunately' *shudder*

Cats actually wasn't the first production I saw. Beauty and the Beast was my first proper stage experience but I was so far from the front I could hardly see anything. With Cats I was really close and there was a large spacious walkway in front of my row, that not only could I stretch my legs but the cast would actually crawl and prowl up the walkway whilst singing, and actually have a kind of "connection" with the audience. It was a nice touch.

The dancing is wonderful. I actually used to know all the moves and watch the video and dance with them at the same time. It was quite embarrasing when I think about it now, as I am no dancer.

I like that as a username. :-) It is certainly different an only people in the know=us would no where it came from.

Hehe, I tried to copy their movs as well, but our living room was too crowded for it!

And by the way, Demeter, is first and foremost the earth goddess in the Greek mythology, the equivalent to Yavanna as she is also the giver of fruits and symbol of fertility. So most people would probably think of that, before they thought of Demeter the Cat. :P

I saw Beauty and the Beast a couple of years ago... what a show!! The decorations and sets were amazing, it was like stepping right into the Disney movie. However, the plot isn't all that exciting and the songs didn't succeed in captivating me like other musicals would do. The Beast just wasn't scary enough, although he was very well-made!!

Lol, glad I wasn't the only one then. :-)

Ah, yes I knew Demeter was a name used for something else. Couldn't think what it was at the name. I think a few of the names in Cats had Greek influences, or they certainly sound like they should.

Ah, well I am a huge fan of the film so I already knew the songs, which I love. As you say, the sets were particularly amazing, and very cleverly done. I think the beast was meant to be scary, but not too much, as I suppose children may get scared. I can't tell if he was well made, I was too far from the stage to see.

I love musicals!!!!!!!!! :-D Some of my favorite movie musicals are:
~ Rent
~ The Producers [2005]
~ Phantom of the Opera
~ Newsies (a sorta old movie musical starring Christian Bale. Yes, Christian Bale - singing! :-))
~ Cats (not exactly a movie, but I saw a recording of it)
~ Into The Woods (I've performed in the one-act Jr. version, but I saw almost all of the recording of the original cast)
~ Grease
~ The Sound of Music
~ West Side Story (even though I've only seen bits and pieces of it)
~ Annie
~ Willy Wonka/Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (both versions, of course!)

Out of those shows I've seen Rent and Cats onstage too. Cats was my very first play, and I use to be obsessed w/ it when I was little. I've been a Renthead now for over a year and am proud of it!!! :-)

My favorite musicals that I've seen onstage (other than Rent and Cats) are:
~ 42nd Street (my very first Broadway play!! I have the movie version too, but I heard it was really bad, so I haven't seen that)
~ The Lion King
~ The Drowsy Chaperone
~ Big River (I saw this in Washington D.C. and it was put on by a company of deaf and blind actors, so the deaf actors signed their lines and had a companion speak the lines for them, and the blind actors said their lines but had a companion guide them around the stage. Twas amazing seeing them perform!)

Finally, some musicals where I absolutely love the music and listen to the soundtracks almost religiously, but haven't seen the stage production yet and am dying to see them, are:
~ Wicked (my top priority right now. I am just dying to see this!!!!!)
~ Les Misérables (my next priority! All the rest below are in no particular order)
~ Avenue Q
~ Spamalot
~ Forbidden Broadway
~ Man of La Mancha
~ Aida
~ See What I Wanna See
~ Once On This Island (I've also performed in the Jr. version of this, but I want to see the full 2-act version onstage)
Those are all the ones I can think of right now.

Wow, this is a really long post!

Mrs. Bloom...see Wicked. It made me cry...honest to god. Elphie hit the high note of Defying Gravity, and I started to cry. It was THAT beautiful.
