OH my god!

Ms. JF, thanks SOOO much for starting up this thread! And directing me to the trailer!

OH MY GOD!!

*SCREAMS*

:swoon:

JOHNNY SINGING!!! :swoon: Okay, I'm officially in love with TB/JD. And officially, I canNOT wait for this movie to come out!!
*SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*

I will say this though, it's a very dark story. I mean, hysterical parts in it. But very....morbid and dark. :P Which fits me perfectly. XD I don't want to deter anyone from seeing it, but just a bit of a warning. XD It's not a happy musical. ALTHOUGH, the song, my favourite of the musical, is "A Little Priest," had me in tears I was laughing so hard. :P I think the idea of it disturbed many people. But, yeah.
Dark humour, and a dark story.

Here's a plotline...although JF got it quite well:
Quote:
Based on Christopher Bond's retelling of the Victorian pennydreadful The String of Pearls, (which was itself a retelling of a British myth, possibly rooted in truth) this musical (with a book by Hugh Wheeler) tells the tale of Sweeney Todd, a murderous barber, and his partner in crime, Nellie Lovett, a baker who disposes of the bodies by baking them into her pies. Meanwhile, Anthony Hope, a sailor who saved Todd's life, falls in love with Todd's estranged daughter, Johanna, who is being brought up as the ward of the twisted Judge Turpin. Includes the songs "Not While I'm Around," "Pretty Women," and "A Little Priest."

And this being my favourite musical EVER, I'm totally psyched!!!

The ENDING, however. Oh god. When I saw the play, I was BAWLING. Ha ha ha. It was funny, because at intermission, I was crying because I was laughing so hard. By the end, I was crying because I was....well, depressed. Of my class, I was the only one so invested in it that I was on the edge of my seat the entire time....:P Everyone else was just disturbed by the craziness of it. XD And they all thought I was crazy because I was crying at the end. They were like, "So Sweeney Todd made you bawl your eyes out, but Ragtime DIDN'T?! What's WRONG with you?!" XD

Anyway, I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Alan Rickman ANNNNNND Johnny Depp?!!! :swoon:

I suppose you can understand why they chose to do the Broadway version though, if it is darker, that would be more suited to Tim Burton and Johnny Depp.

oh yeah, i totally understand. it's just that there was just an initial feeling of "oh, it's not the version i know. that's a shame". the more i find out about this version, however, the more excited i am about it.

OMG, I am sooo exicted about this film. :bounce:

I love Tim Burton and Johnny Depp films so much, and I was so excited when I heard about this film, and the more I got to know about it the more I became excited! *bouncey wouncey* :bounce:

It looks aboslutely fantastic. It looks like it is the ultimate Tim Burton/Johnny Depp film. It's more Burtonesque than I thought was possible. It's like Sleepy Hollow (my favourite Burton/Depp film) x100! :D

I mean, Tim Burton + Johnny Depp + Musical + blood/gore + Sleepy Hollow-esque + Alan Rickman = :kick: :swoon: :-o :kick: :swoon: :-o

And the fact it's a musical! *squee* I love musicals, and this could possibly be up there with the more "normal" ones like My Fair Lady etc. And I love the look of the whole dream sequence things, like you get in "normal" musicals. Gah, it just looks so much fun! :D

And the sets! The sets look fantastic! It looks a mixture between Jack the Ripper London, and Phantom of the Opera Paris. :D

And I can tell already, that I will definitely be wanting the soundtrack.

*calms down*

*goes to watch it again and again and again*

Yes, as you can tell, I am very hyper about this film. ;)

^ that's me right there :D I am SOO incredibly excited for this film.

Ahh it looks so dark, so gothic and so very Burtonesque! :D

@ PD - Yeah, I can understand what your saying about the gruesome side of it. I would think that might not be everyone's cup of tea. I would also expect it to be waay more gory than Sleepy Hollow (although watching 10 minutes of SH last night, reminded me how gory it was :P) but in the same taste, if you know what I mean.

Lol, yes indeed. Creepy, weird and wacky pretty much sums up all Tim Buton's films.

Well I really hope for everyone's sake, it's not rated too highly, or at least no higher than Sleepy Hollow.

------------------------------------
@ Elenya - Well this a completely different type of musical to anything you've seen before! How many musicals have barbers singing to their intended victims that he would like them in his chair?!

--------------------------------
@ Monty - *taps foot*

I was expecting you here yesterday missy. :sly:

Hahaha, TB/JD rule together. Seriously they do. I am as excited for this film as I was for Wallace and Gromit, ROTK and AWE! And it takes a lot for me to get really, really excited about something. :teehee:

Yeah, dark is what I would guess. I know vaguely how it ends, helped along by an ITV production of it a couple of years ago. But funny as well! The trailer made me laugh and that's only 2 minutes long! :D

WOOT! I got it almost right. Not bad eh? :D

I know! Who the heck am I going to drool more for?! Especially the younger looking and really dashing AR in the beginning of the trailer. It's going to be very hard to stop myself from *squeeing* everytime I see him. And if I do get to see it with my brother... that will be really embarassing... for him I mean! XD

------------------------------------
@ ethelfleda - Yes, I can understand that. I've had that kind of disappointment in the past as well.. can't think what with though. :P Well you'll have the best of both world's as hopefully, you can see both versions and enjoy them both as well. :-)

------------------------------------
@ Eru - Yay! More excited people. Burtoneque... is that a proper word? because it should be. :D He does Burtonesque so well. XD

Haha! Looks like I'm beat when it comes to being excited for this film. :teehee: Don't get me wrong I am über excited to the point of screaming every time I watch the trailer, but I'm definitely not as crazy as you ladies. :P

Yes, indeed we are the craaazy gals. :psycho:

Oops, not that kind of crazy. :P

:boing: << Much more better. :D

Ooh, I need to go and screencap the trailer. I feel a Sweeney Tood epidemic coming on. :teehee:

ok, I'm glad you can understand that.... well, normally it's not what I prefer but I can take it if the storyline is really good and the actors are (which JD definitely is one of the best!) good. yeah, that's what it sounds like... (really? I didn't think Sleepy Hollow was THAT bad... it had it's parts but for the most part it was just dark and dreary... :P) I know what you mean. ;)

aye, that it does (I'll never forget how scared I was as a little kid when I first saw James and the Giant Peach! lol (which I think is one of his movies, right? unless I'm loosing my marbles!))

I'm sure it won't be. :)

Lol, well last night on SH in a space of 5 minutes I saw 2 decapitaions and then an hour later when I turned over, a shooting, an impaling and then another decapitaion. All with lashings of much to red, blood. :P The impaling of Michael Gambon was pretty gruesome, but in the best possible way. Hah, that sounded weird. :teehee:

Actually, I don't think he did that. He did Nightmare Before Christmas, which is the same kind of stop-motion animation. The first time I watched that I loved it, the second time it scared me. (The Oogie-boogie man did it). And yet his song is awesome. :D

[sorry for going a bit off topic there folks]

Did I mention how much I love Johnny's hair? :P It's like Cruella de vil meets Bellatrix Lestrange meets the mad-scientist-who-wants-to-take-over-the-world.

well, I guess to reply I have to go off topic with you... :P so sorry from me too. We should probably just start a separate thread for SH ;)

hm, you're right although I don't remember it like that. :P I'm sure it was there but to me it probably didn't seem too in-your-face... trust me, in passing, I have seen people add some pretty gruesome things to movies whether I wanted to or not... so SH was pretty tame compared to what I've heard/read about and seen snippets of. ;) also maybe it wasn't so bad because some of it was a little cheesy... if you get what I mean ;) lol

well, I've never seen Nightmare Before Christmas... but it is that same style of animation, you're right. oh, yup! I just looked on IMDB, it wasn't him who did it. :duh: either way it sure scared me! lol But he did do Corpse Bride, right?

 now I want to see a pic of his hair! It sounds crazy! :P

Meep! His hair is insane! I swear it's all neat and happy-go-lucky at the beginning and then BAM! it's all Cruella de Ville. Wow.

Oh Ducky, you must do some screencaps. I've already got a plan for a nice sig set in my head. :)

@ PD - Muhauha, you just reminded me to start my club for the films of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp! Go join, so we can talk about SH!

Yeah, I know what you mean about the gore in SH. I don't have a problem with it myself. In fact the more the better (if it's a TB/JD film, it's usually more tasteful and for a reason, most horror films rely on the gore and nothing else to carry the film). Yes, it is cheesy.. although I think of it as more over-the-top. That blood is way to red. ;)

Yes, he did do the Corpse Bride. You should try and watch NBC. :-)

Well here is one of the posters which gives you an idea of his hair.

http://www.timburtoncollective.com/imag ... _large.jpg

I've just looked on the official site and it's says that is an R for graphic bloody violence, so under 17's need to be with an adult. :-( Which I suppose isn't too bad... wonder what it will be over here?

@ Larael - Yeah, he looks nice and handsome and clean in the beginning... like Alan Rickman... and then it all goes wrooong. :teehee:

Oh, noes! But if it will take your mind off Potter. :P

Arrghhh, I'm away for a day and you people post like crazy!!
*blows on burned marshmellow*

I can only agree on everything that's been said about the Burton genius and the Johnny Depp + Alan Rickman + Helena Bonham Carter = luuuv, but I haven't seen the trailer yet... I'm a poor student with too little time at hand.... I will get around to it though.. and very soon!!

I know, I'm sowwy. :guilty:

Ooh, did you know if you burn them enough their insides ooze out? :D

Yeah, I probably don't give Bonham Carter her due. I've only seen her in Howard's End (bleurgh film), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Corpse Bride, ooh and Planet of the Apes. And she was good in all them. She looks really good in the trailer as well. My mum has thing about her though, she doesn't like her and she doesn't know why every film TB has made since Planet of the Apes, she has been in. She thinks it's unfair that no other actress even gets the chance for the roles in TB's films. I can kinda understand what she says... but it get's tiring after a while. :eyeroll:

EEEEP! JF's tappping her FOOT at me!! Oh NOES! XD

I agree, I'm so ridiculously excited for this movie, it's....ridiculous. ;) XD  I dunno, man. Just something about it make me jump up and down with glee! I know, TB/JD/AR have something to do with it...and so does my complete and utter adoration for the musical itself....combine those two, and I go CRAAAAAAAAZY!
*SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*
I plan on kidnapping all of my friends to come see it with me when it comes out! :P They MUST share in my crazy, insane, TB/JD/AR obsession ANNNND my morbid fascination with Sweeney Todd (which, they already think I AM a female version of Sweeney ;) )
Although they'll be embarrassed by me, most of the time they'll be laughing at me...knowing that this is typical me....when it comes to something THIS GOOD!!! :P

OHH god, seeing AR in that trailer...nearly DIED! But can I just say, I literally GASPED when I was watching the trailer and heard Johnny singing. I made such a commotion, that my roommate just STARED at me as though I'd lost my mind. I just looked at him and said "Sweeney. Todd." As though that were enough explanation. He still thinks I'm mad as hell though. ;)

@Ea: BURTONESQUE! PERRRRFECT word!!! And I agree! These crazies post like MAD! Ha ha ha ha!

As for Johnny's HAIR! :swoon: Okay, I have to explain this. I first fell in love with Johnny in Edward Scissorhands...as I think many of us did. But not for reasons most people do. It was because of his HAIR! I swear to god, I think TB just KNOWS that Johnny's hair SHOULD and HAS to be like that. :P In Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, and now his hair in Sweeney Todd, is just plain PERFECT! I'm SOOO uber excited about his hair....it's unhealthy. :P

Yeah, of course I know the anatomy of a marshmellow, lol, what do you take me for! :P
And aye, there is only one reason why Bonham carter is given the parts of Burton's movies... her brilliance of course!! You should tell your mom that!!! She has the looks and a beautiful name... I want that name... Eä Bonham Carter..., pretty aint it?

Hey Mobo... *waves* I didn't come up with Burtonesque... I believe it was the bright ethelfleda who has abandoned the thread again...
I wished I could take all of you to see the movie, that'd be great. I'm not sure my friends can go as crazy as I over the movie... they don't swoon over the combination... I've got JD fans, AR fans and TB fans among my friends... but none of them is mad about them....
