I haven't actually read this book [it's by Philipa Gregory, right?], but I'm really excited about this movie. To tell you the truth, I didn't even know about it til now. The trailer looks brilliant though and I'm positive Natalie Portman will be very good.

^How did you like the book, Larael? A friend and I visited the library today and she checked out the book and I was eyeing it throughout the day.

I agree that Nat's going to be awesome in this movie! According to me her best part til now was V for Vendetta's Evey (though she's quite impressive in Goya's Ghosts)
Scarlett's part seems to be quite plain yo know... She's the romantic sweet girl whereas Natalie seems to be almost hysterical!
But actually this is far more closer to the reality I believe... No I don't mean that all women in this period ware hysterical! lol!
But yeah, ambition meant survival... You couldn't just be sweet and lovely to achieve some goals... That's why I think the way Anne is portrayed is pretty close to the truth... And far far more interresting!
I haven't read the book, and I hadn't so much work to do til March (french release ) I would certainly do!

I'm really excited about this film cause I loved the books - infact I've loved most of Philippa Gregory's books.
I hope they don't make Mary (Scarlett's character) too weak because in the book she's not weak at all. She's definitly the believable character while Anne's the one who seemed almost too wicked and ambitious to be true.

^I really hope they establish Mary's character. I haven't read the books, and if what you say is true, I definitely hope so too!!!
I've only seen Natalie in Garden State (which isn't my kind of movie) and Star Wars, so I hope this will impress me. Well, it has impressed me, the trailer did so!

Hehe, I haven't actually read it, Kit. *points to previous post* I do intend to before the movie though. It seems that I've been seeing it at every bookstore nearby.

o.O I could've sworn it said you did. Bah, then. xD
A friend has read it and she said that everyone but Mary were very flat, static characters so I'm hoping that the film incorporates more into the characters.

Squee! I just saw a trailer online! Natalie Portman looks absolutely fantastic! I'm a little iffy on the plot, since the trailer didn't really explain much, however it looks like it's going to be very well done. The few moments they showed of Scarlett's character looked good as well. I sensed no weakness from her.

I finished the book a few weeks ago, overall I liked it, however there were points where it seemed to drag on forever....I'm happy on the choices they made for casting, they seem to fit perfectly...the costumes look wonderful and...it seems from the trailer that Natalie Portman portrays the prefect quick-witted Anne represented in the book...
There were parts in the trailer that I could sense some straying from the story...however, it's hard to make a judgment call right now when the movie hasn't even come out yet
However, I have to admit, I'm a sucker for period films and series so it doesn't matter too much how far they stray...

I've seen the trailer. The movie looks very interesting. I never read the book though, ony because I've never heard of it until learning of the movie.

The french trailer has been released and I have to say that the french voices are desapointing... But there's a movie in my town that shows movies only in their orginal version!
Unfortunately it's only going to be released on April 4th in France ONLY!! Aaaarghhhhh!!!!
I know that the premiere occured during the Berlinale festival about one week ago, some critics are harsh but some are pretty good, as usual...

Well I think the character of Mary is obviously emphasized (is it ok?! ) for the need of the book/story but rumours said she had an affair with Henry VIII, can't say what's true or false!
Anyway if some of you want to see more to make an opinion, here's a nice link with no just trailers but interviews and, yay!, footages and movie clips!

Want to see it so bad! [squirms around] Has anyone seen it yet???
Spoilerish?!?! True history of Henry VIII and the Boleyn Sisters.
Well Henry the VIII was known for his many wives and mistresses. Having many illegitimate children and none able to be a legitimate heir, Henry the VIII was known for being angry at his wives for providing him a proper heir (later it was found out that he just had bad little soldiers).
Anyways, he first married Catherine of Argon (coincidentally, the widow of his late brother). Not providing an heir, Henry VIII was fed up and got involved with Anne Boleyn, and secretly married her while the Archbishop hurriedly declared that Catherine of Argon was an invalid Queen (with some political arm-twisting from Henry VIII) and declared Anne Boleyn valid.
After Anne had a healthy young girl (more famously known as Elizabeth I of England) she was unable to bear any more children, her pregnancies either ending in still borns or miscarriages. Henry VIII had her arrested and charged for adultery and she and her brother George were executed while the men she allegedly had affairs with were to be executed as well.
Henry VIII was known to have had Mary Boleyn as his mistress (rumor had it that Mary Boleyn was originally wanted to take the place of Catherine of Argon). She had a daughter Catherine and a son Henry but they could not prove that they were fathered by Henry VIII.

You get the idea. But y'know, it's a G-rated forum.
Henry the VIII is an interesting figure in history, more interesting now that he's being played by Eric Bana of all people. (fangirly swoon!) The son by Mary Boleyn? Well, I thought he was not a legitimate heir since Mary was in fact a mistress and not a wife according to the Church and not to mention that it remained unconfirmed whether or not he was the father.
