Re Mother Gothel, add me to the list of people who thought she was an intriguing character. However, I thought she was intriguing not because, as some of you said, I thought she was a not-that-bad person, but because I found it really fascinating that her villainy was all about the emotional abuse. Maybe I'm going too psychoanalysis on a Disney movie, but the way she talks Rapunzel out of wanting to leave the tower is so incredibly abusive that it was a little painful to hear if you got at the message rather than the fun animation and singing. And the scene when Rapunzel first leaves the tower and swings back and forth between shrieking for joy and crying her eyes out at Mother Gothel's reaction - well, yeah, it's meant to be funny. And it is, if you just take it as part of the story. But it's also really, really disturbing on a damaged-psyche level

That totally wasn't a criticism of the movie - actually it's my form of phrase, stating why I found Mother Gothel so intriguing, above and beyond the average villain. But that's my explanation of why I found her equally villainous, just in a very different way.
This. The manipulative, emotional abuse - just
gaaaah. I know Gothel's motivations are pure selfish vanity - she just wants Rapunzel's hair to stay young. But sometimes I can't help but wonder if she was being genuine - the "I love you." "I love you more." "I love you most" lines just killed me with that!
Mother Knows Best has definitely earned its place as one of my favorite Disney villain songs. -nodnod- I always noticed how manipulative Gothel was during that song - she paints the world as a horrible, scary place and then makes sure that she's the only safe place that Rapunzel has. It's horribly evil of her.
Does...does it make me a freak that I find Mother Gothel intriguing because of that?
Also, I love her character design.

All the character designs are gorgeous, though. And the whole movie is just so pretty and beautiful and gorgeous and - aaaah I love it! I really really love this movie. Very very much.
I love that Rapunzel's an artist. XD
And Pascal, ahahah, how can you NOT love Pascal?
Flynn and Maximus - I cracked up at every one of their scenes together. "You should know that this is the weirdest thing I have ever done!"
The only disappointment I had was that the instrumental tracks on the soundtrack seemed a bit mediocre. But 'Kingdom Dance' made up for that, yes it did.
