I got the DVD of the new P&P! Horray! I actually find myself (surprisingly) enjoying this newer P&P more than the BBC version *gasp, shock*. Why? First, the music is absolutely beautiful. Second, the cinematography is artfully done. Third, the characters are just that: characters. I've always thought the BBC version was filled with characatures. In this new version, I felt like I could know these people; it was snapshots from the lives of the Elizabeth and her family. I'll always enjoy the BBC version, even though I prefer this. If only they could've made it a longer film!

I'm reading Pride and Prejudice and I think the one that they made with Keira followed the book really good and got straight to the point.

I loved the film Pride and Prejudice! Absolutely loved it. Of course, I hadn't seen the BBC series or read the book when I first saw it, nor did I have a clue what it was about (my friend and I decided about two minutes before it started that we would go and see it...)

So I was really captivated since I didn't know what was going to happen next! I liked the characters - I could really see them as real people, and I enjoyed a lot of the dialogue.
I also found it funny, and I must admit that I spent part of it quoting PotC. But I was really impressed by the cinematography - the camera angles and the setting and the overall picturesque-ness of it all! It was just so beautifully done! I love the music so much!

(The soundtrack is on the movie's website, and you can listen to it there. That's where I got it from... ;) (I then just.... ah... *cough* copied it out of my temp internet files...))

I've since seen the BBC series... I think the film was better made than the mini series. There are pros and cons for both, (my friend is obsessive about Colin Firth *sighs* so that's all she really looks at!) But some of the characters I thought in the film were more believable. They just weren't so... extreme. The only character I thought was significantly better done in the BBC series was Wickham. I could actually understand why they liked him.
I thought the film was a bit more historically accurate but the mini series had better lines because it was longer and could therefore fit in more dialogue... (and on the comparison goes.)

Anyway, I really want to get the film on DVD soon!

That's a very interesting analysis!

I think it depends on which historically accurate you're going for, grungy or genteel. Also, earlier or later--I believe the new one is set earlier, which accounts for the difference in costumes.

Sorry, I'm a complete Jane Austen freak!

Probably. I don't know a lot about that era of clothing, but I know that the whole high-waisted, low-cut dresses with no petticoats was a reasonably short-lived phase before they went back to corsets again. So I thought it made sense for Mrs Bennet's clothing to be not quite in keeping with her daughters... and I thought 'grunge' worked well. You would have to be really rich to avoid things like mud, and just because it's not mentioned in the novel doesn't mean it wasn't there. So I really liked that the house needed repainting and so on. It just felt to me right. (Seeing the mimiseries, I thought it was a bit too tame... )

Of course, the film may just have focused on the mud and disrepair in the film because they wanted to be different from the mini series, which deliberated avoided that aspect of life in that era because no attention is given to it in the novel...

I wanna see Pride & Prejudice soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I almost went to go see it one time, but idk what happend, but I all of a sudden couldn't see it. But I heard that Keira Knightly is absolutely amazing in it (afterall, she was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar!!!!!) And the guy who plays Mr. Darcy (I think) is on a British tv show that my parents and I like called MI-5 (about the British MI-5, which is pretty much the CIA of the UK. I don't even know why I know this, seeing as I don't live in the UK! Anyway, tis a really good show, even though I haven't seen many episodes, but I like it a lotl! They're all spies and they solve crimes and go undercover and track terrorists and... it's really awesome!!!!!) I might be reading the book next year, but I'm not sure, cuz idk what we read in the Honor's English class. But my friend read it, and she loves it. But we both still have yet to see the movie.
