I saw it at 10:00pm eastern standard time. It was amazing!!! I even dressed up for it I wore a celtic ring, medieval style gold vest, and black velvet blazer. And to finish of I wore a black Beret, green earrings and my mallorn leaf necklace. And a black turtle neck shirt, blue jeans and a vine belt. And my hair was braided.
You do have a point Gwenn, when Aslan walked out the tent it just.. something wasn't right. And they skip the best part when Aslan was walking to stone the children did not talk to him along the way. I wasn't scared of the witch either.
But the wolves just hearing them Howl sent a chill down my spine. It was well worth the free ticket.

Okay, I'm going to shed some light here because I read some of the early review posts for the movie and I heard that it wasn't very good. I went with my usual movie-friends, they're alot older than me, I'm the youngest of the group. One of them, who is usually the information seeker on movies, said that she heard that it wasn't very good. On rottentomato, they gave Narnia a 79%, which isn't good, isn't horribly bad. I said, we should give it a shot.
We enjoyed it.
We REALLY enjoyed it. Don't listen to reviews. Go see it for yourselves to get an opinion.
Comparing Narnia with Lord of the Rings:
Don't do it. You'll sound like an idiot. Unless you already are, then, I guess more power to you. But it's ridiculous if you're going to compare Narnia and Lord of the Rings. Lord of the Rings spoiled us, and I think many movie-goers are using Lord of the Rings too much as a comparison to other fantasy/war movies.
Yes, there are some similarities. The preparing for war. The servants of the White Witch creating armor and weapons. The Gyphons dropping rocks in the Witch's Army. But guess what? All war movies are like that. All fantasy movies have that sense of similarity if you clash it with war.
The Book & The Big-Screen:
Similarities and differences. As all books and their film counterparts had their similiaries and differences. When I read the book in 7th grade, about 2 years ago, I didn't like it. I felt it was boring. It was really slow-paced and it really just wasn't my preference. The movie was the same. It had a slow start but up to the point of the Ice-River scene, it was all up from there. I might have to give the book another try.
The Actors:
I thought the casting was very well done. However, I didn't feel that Lucy, Susan, Edmund, and Peter acted really THAT much like siblings. I never really felt that they were that...'touchy-feely', it irked me a bit. But they sure did FIGHT like siblings, which perhaps was a bit too much. Why do they have three different hair colors? I understand 2 different hair colors but, three? Peter has sandy blonde hair, Susan and Edmund have almost pitch black hair, and Lucy has red. I had the impression that they all had dark hair. I can understand Peter having sandy blonde hair because of a possibly recessive gene from a grandfather or grandmother. But Lucy's red hair? It seems ODD.
William Moseley: (Peter Pevensie) A bit too old. Atleast in my opinion. Peter is what, 12 years old? Peter looks 17. I can understand if they wanted to try and keep the actors at this age range due to future books, but I think they should've kept the actors a bit younger, a 14-15 year old would do fine.
He IS very cute though. He's the typical white knight in shining armor, y'know ? And I think I like that he took responsibilty towards his siblings. I think anyone would do the same if they were in his predicament. His family's in the middle of a war, his father's gone off to join the troops. His mother has no choice to send them away to a stranger's home for their own safety. She asks you to look after them. Good ol' Peter's got the right to be protective of them. And besides, he has a soft spot for Lucy. When he bent down to give her a piggy back ride - "Awwwwwww!"
Anna Popplewell: (Susan Pevensie) I liked her. She reminded me very much of myself. She emobodies the person who feels that she has to be the mature one but can't help but acting angry or lashing out immaturely once in a while. While guys can get away with looking a bit older, I highly doubt a 10 year is that grown up. I still very much enjoyed her. I want her dress. I want it SO much. She's a very pretty girl, in her own right. I wouldn't happy, though if Susan didn't look like she had hit puberty. [cough] I say no more.
Skandar Keynes: (Edmund Pevensie) Excellent, excellent acting this kid did. I really really hated him at the beginning, and I really really loved him at the end. I think he played Edmund out perfectly. [Except when he was on the ground at the end cringing from his injury - that was pretty bad but, hey, it's a kid actor.]
Georgie Henley: (Lucy Pevensie) Possibly the best of the kid actors. [Besides Keynes] She really did well with her face expressions - thought sometimes the expression was too much of a sudden change, for example when Edmund said that he was playing along, and that little kids never stop pretending, her expression change to heartbreak was all too sudden, which isn't necessarily the actor's fault, more of maybe the camera capture's fault --- they didn't do the transition that well. She was absolutely adorable!
James McAvoy: (Mr. Tumnus) Oh! How adorable, was he?! I could just SNOG him, though it'd be a bit hairy, but that's besides the point! Oh he was just so adorable. The actor was great, I fell for him, really. Peter who?
Tilda Swinton: (White Witch) I really, really, really liked her. She could give Saruman a run for his money. Brr! She was so cold, and EVIL! You really, really, really hated her! I think Gwenneth said that Jadis was supposed to have a sort of fear of Aslan. In a way, she DOES fear Aslan. She's afraid that he take the power to rule over Narnia away from her. She knows that Aslan has the power to do that, and she does fear him. But she's also ambitious as to not let that happen, so she has to be cunning and try to better Aslan. He is her superior, but if she is always afraid of him, how does she win? I think I like that Swinton made the White Witch more of a big villian that she possibly could do Aslan one deal better. [But in the end of course Aslan easily kills her. Sadly.] I LOVED her eyes, it was so evil, like looking into the depths of her dark soul, it was pitch black!
Kiran Shah: (Ginarrbrik) It feels so good to see Kiran again! I really liked him in the Lord of the Rings, and I'm glad he's getting the screentime he deserves for his hard work. Of course, we couldn't quite understand him, which he might need to work on that a bit, but wow! I really loved him.
Other actors: I really liked Digory Kirke (The Professor) in here, he seems so grown up, unlike his child form in the Magician's Son. He acts like the ideal grandfather, y'know, who can humor the kids and believe with them, but have that sense of authority. Mrs. MacCready reminded me of Professor McGonagall [Dame Maggie Smith] - which I quite enjoyed. Orieus was very valiant and he reminded me alot of our heroes in Lord of the Rings.
Older Children Actors: I didn't remember a scene like that, but my memory is hazy afterall. I do liked the older versions of them. Though, Susan looked too different since young Lucy wasn't exactly that young. Edmund and Peter looked like they wered older and how cute were they?! [swoons]. Lucy, who knows, but I thought it was great that Georgie Henley's older sister played the role. They all looked very noble and kingly, and I liked the scene....Gwenneth, I dunno how you can judge Older Susan's annoyance level with such a short scene with them...[shrug]
[WETA/CGI Work]: WOW! Weta has REALLY outdone itself! It must've been absolutely hard work designing and creating all those characters and the armor that they would wear. I really really liked the armor for Aslan's army, especially the centaur's. I was also drooling over Peter's and Edmund's armor. Oh how cool! I absolutely fell in love with the Gryphons. They looked AMAZING! And absolutely huge when it flew! It certainly reminded me of the Eagles in LotR, except cooler and with a tail. I loved the Gryphons so much! [squeals] However, I can't get over the fact that the Gryphon that said "They have come, your highness. With numbers far greater than our own." -- I can't believe that's Farmer Maggot !! lol.
The Beavers were great, oh my gosh, the average wife/husband quarrels. The Fox was new to me. I didn't remember a fox from the story.
Overall: I loved it! I give it an A.

I saw the movie last night at their latest showing (since there was no midnight showing) and loved it. It was just amazing. I decided I wouldn't be a purist, so I have almost no problems with it.
Tilda Swinton did a wonderful job, I loved her portrayal of the White Witch. Also, I know a few of you disagree, but I thought Aslan was just..perfect. I got exactly the same thrill watching him on the screen that I got from reading the book. He was perfect. I cried for the better part of the movie, of course, especially during the Stone Table.
I thought the opening sequence was brilliant! It really helped us, with our own war so far away, for the most part, understand how close it was for them.
I realized I'm a lot like Susan, like Kit said she is. (Kit and I already know we have a lot in common... ) I can be a little bossy, feeling that I need to be mature and serious. But Susan was so wonderful in the movie.
The thing that bothered me the most about the movie was Fenris Ulf's (or Maugrim, whichever you prefer) distinct American accent. I don't know where that came from. But the wolves were great. And the acting was so, so good. With children that age, you don't expect it to be perfect, but it really was very good. Peter, I loved the way he took such responsibility for his siblings, that just endeared him to me more than ever.
Another thing I loved was when Lucy pulled out her cordial bottle in hopes of helping Aslan. I thought that was so in character for her, I loved it.
I have trouble finding anything wrong with this movie; maybe just because I decided I'd enjoy it and not critisize, but I'm the better for it. It was magnificent.
(Kit, I want her dresses too. The Archery Dress just makes me drool.)
I loved Edmund's talking horse, too. That was so cute. "Hey, horsie!" "My name is Philip."
My group went in costume. We got lots of strange looks, and a staffer came out to get pics...we even got one guy taking pictures of us on his cell phone! It was great fun.

I'll admit, they were touchy-feely, but I didn't mind that. I thought it was a sweet, sibling-like thing to do. Yeah, I felt they fought just a bit too much. (Like when Peter is holding Lu's drenched coat, Susan imediately blames it on him) Interesting, I thought they really looked like siblings. You thought Lucy had red hair? It looked quite brown to me...very interesting. I don't think the casting director really thought of genes while choosing the best actor to play Lucy. lol Quote: William Moseley: (Peter Pevensie) A bit too old. Atleast in my opinion. And besides, he has a soft spot for Lucy. When he bent down to give her a piggy back ride - "Awwwwwww!" I'd agree with you -- too old. I'm almost positive the Pete in the book is 13, 14 years old. William, during that time, was 16. Yes! I've always loved the Pete/Lu relationship! I think in PC, it says that his favorite sister was always Lucy. Quote: I think Gwenneth said that Jadis was supposed to have a sort of fear of Aslan. In a way, she DOES fear Aslan. She's afraid that he take the power to rule over Narnia away from her. He is her superior, but if she is always afraid of him, how does she win?[/qoute] Well, that's sort of the point -- she knows she can't win. She knows that as soon as Aslan returns and the prophecy fulfilled, she's toast. But she still tries as hard as she can to not let the prophecy come true. As soon as she thinks Aslan is out of the way, she "knows" she's won, because all she has to do is get the children out of the way so that the thrones are not filled. Quote: ....Gwenneth, I dunno how you can judge Older Susan's annoyance level with such a short scene with them...[shrug] It had to do with her lines, and tone of voice. I don't remember it word for word, but I remember it was amazingly cheesy. Like, "Oh, Edmund said he was going to go and catch the Stag on his own, didn't you, Ed? *Cheesy laugh*" In the book, their language was completely different; they called each other "Ma'am, Sir, fair brother..." Quote: The Beavers were great, oh my gosh, the average wife/husband quarrels. The Fox was new to me. I didn't remember a fox from the story.
I know! I wanted to eat them up! Did you see that part when they were holding hands?? Aww!
The fox had a tiny part in the book. He and a bunch of other animals were having a party with the gifts Father Christmas gave them. The White Witch came to them on their way to the Stone Table, and turned them to stone. (This was another example of the fear of Aslan -- she bit her lip until it bled when they mentioned Father Christmas)

Yeah, I am 100% sure that Lucy's hair is red. A deep shade of wine-red/yucky brown when the light shines on it....or maybe it was the lighting. Okay, now I'm 90% sure...
[scratches head]
Oh geez...
Hmmm...
Anyways: I still like the confidence and pure gritty evilness of the White Witch, it'd be kind of a give-away with she played coward throughout the movie.

I haven't seen it yet, but today I saw the BBC tv adaptation. Compared to the movie, it's indefinately inferior, as there is no computer animated graphics or the like....Anyway, I love turkish delight, but I'm no glutton for it like Edmund . I hope to see the movie sometime before or after Christmas, or maybe this tuesday if I don't decide to see Harry Potter(which isn't much of a choice at this point).
I thought the books were wonderful.

I saw the BBC versions when I was little, and really liked them, but now...they just make me sick! I am SO glad they're going to make them again.

I MUST read the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe again!
[sigh]
I'm almost halfway through the Magician's Son --- I was wondering, since in the Magician's song, Jadis is claimed to be a sorceress, why is she said to be a witch in the LWW? Is there really a difference in that?
