I think you should listen again, Eru.

The first time I listened, I wasn't paying really close attention either, and I thought much the same thing. A bit of new stuff, but not that much. The second time, though...wow. I must've been more distracted than I thought, because there really is a good bit of new stuff in there. Like the beginning of Battle at Aslan's How - that's a brand-new theme used for Miraz and his army. It's actually probably my favorite theme on the whole soundtrack. The strings and the percussion and....gah. *dies*

*cough*

Anywho, yeah, there is actually a fair amount of new stuff, though Harry did obviously recycle some themes, but it makes sense to do so. LWW and PC are part of the same series, so it would be pointless to come up with completely new themes every time. I mean, would you want Jack Sparrow to have a different theme in all three of the PotC movies?

Certain themes get attached to certain characters or emotions, and so it's only logical to keep those themes through the series. Yeah, the music at 3:50 in BaAH is identical to the music in The Battle on the LWW track, but if it fits, then so be it. That theme IS Narnia, or at least a very large part of it. I would have been disappointed if it weren't in the score again. And while Return of the Lion is mostly just a variation on the existing Aslan theme, it is EPIC. I got goosebumps listening to it, and I haven't even seen the movie yet. No, there aren't many original notes in there, but the arrangement and instrumentation/vocalization is bigger than anything ever before used in CoN (fitting, since the children are now able to see even more of Aslan).

...Wow. So maybe I'm just a little bit passionate about this soundtrack. :innocent: But that alone should prove what a second chance can do to it. I've fallen more in love with it every time I've listened, and I suspect that I'll like it even more after I go see the movie tomorrow night and have specific scenes to assosciate with the new themes. As of right now, I'm mostly speculating concerning to whom each new theme belongs, based on book knowledge.

Oh, and I'm currently in the process of writing a review/analysis of the whole soundtrack for someone else, if any of y'all are interested in the ramblings of a music nerd. :teehee:

I'm going this morning, to the 10:00/11:30 showing, maybe a little later.

I love it when the theatres are practically empty because school is still in session.

I was looking at the imdb pages for the Pevensie kids, and was looking at Skandar. It said he's 6'1" (at seventeen), and grew six and a half inches during LWW (lol). Will is 6', so I guess the filmmakers make Edmund shorter than Peter? I find it all funny.

Also, Will is just a couple of months older than me. Interesting.

I love imdb. The little facts it gives is great. Also makes me feel the tiniest bit stalkerish! :-D

I'm going at 7:30 this evening :D SO excited.

Yeah, I think it's Skandar that's also only a couple months older than me. Kinda funny. I can never believe how old they actually are - if Skandar's 17, how old is Georgie?

WOOT! Well I hope you lucky people in that part *points* of the world, enjoy yourselves. :D Let the unfortunates who have over a month to wait, know what it was like and things like did the voices suit the characters, I'd be very interesting to know how crappy British people did.

I am going next Saturday. I was going to go today during school so it wouldn't be that full, but the plans fell through.

I think she's 13. imdb lists her as being born in 95.

Woooow, that seems so weird. I always think of Lucy as being so LITTLE! They're all growing up...*tear*

I've been reduced to counting the hours. Deep breaths, Melda...

Ok, I just got back from seeing this- it was awesome!! (slight spoiler alert)

A little battle heavy, but it's tolerable (yeah, I don't really like battle/war scenes). The tension between Caspian and Peter is a bit annoying, but they settle their differences. The tension stems from Caspian being the rightful king and trying to prove himself, while Peter still sees himself as high king (which he is, but hey).

Caspian and Susan were making eyes at each other (Caspian moreso, IMO). I think he likes her, but also wants her approval. Some of his actions aren't as noble as they should be.

The goodbye scene is bittersweet- the Pevensies bidding farewell to Aslan, Caspian and Narnia. Peter knows he and Susan won't be coming back, but Edmund and Lucy will, because they still have lesson(s) to learn. This is the scene where Susan kisses Caspian, btw. She gives the 'it never would've worked between us' little speech, and then kisses him goodbye. Sweet but not too shippy.

**JF: the voices suited the characters, imo. Reepicheep is absolutely adorable!

I'm sooo going to see this again. It was wonderful, I loved it; the snippy details some people are obsessed with I didn't really notice, but then again, I just appreciate the movies without focusing on some of the minutiae. I thought it was great.

Everyone go see it! :D

SQUEEEEEEE! I saw it! We just came home a half an hour or so ago, actually and it is AMAZING! Guys, put most of your fears about Suspian aside too. ;) It wasn't bad at all... but the rest I [s]want[/s] need to say is slightly spoilerish so I shall be putting it in smaller, easier to scroll through text. ;) It's not my fault if you read it... read it at your own risk. :P

btw, my favorite line in the film was:
Edmund: “King Edmund”
Miraz: “King?”
Edmund: “Yes, just king my brother is High King but I’m just king. I know, it’s confusing.”

Caspian vs. Peter: That was extremely well handled in my point of view. In fact, I applaud them for adding it to the movie! The tension and slight resentment they hold for each other (but especially Peter towards Caspian) is very understandable and it was interesting to watch it pan out as they have to work together. I mean to Peter Caspian IS like an invader wanting to take his throne and on top of it all he IS a Temarien (sp?) so that makes a big difference for Pete.

Peter Pevensie: AMAZINGNESS! He was just astounding in this film. Very strong but it also showed a more troubled side of him. He wants to be the leader and to be the one to pull them through things. It shows how hard it was on him to be an adult king in Narnia and then suddenly get stripped from that and forced to be a boy again. I thought they handled his character development very, very well... I'm really happy they showed even more of him than was in the book. He's stunning!

Susan Pevensie: yes, she does fight more than she did in LWW or than she did in the book, but that didn't bother me at all. I thought she was really quite good. They didn't take her character and really make her any different from the normal Susan in the book. She's just the same, however I really liked how they showed her growing a little more distant from Nania. They did drop hints at it which I thought was a good touch. But happily all the speculatin has proved for naught because Susan is pretty much the same girl just grown a little more. :)

Edmund Pevensie: how can I say enough about him? At first I was a little worried because he really doesn't seem to have as much of a role as the other three Pevensies but he really steps up quite a bit when they meet Caspian. And actually he turns out to be one FANTASTIC character, I must say. I'm ashamed that he was never on my top favorites list before now. but just so you all know, Edmund is now very high on my list of favorites!

Lucy Pevensie: she has remained about the same. She's grown, but she hasn't changed a whole lot, I don't think. I think she's stronger and more sure of herself... and she's brave even if she doesn't do hardly any fighting.

anyway, the only thing I can say about all of them together is that they've all grown so much! Character-wise, that is.

Caspian: He ROCKED! Ben Barnes is simply AMAZING! :-D I LOVED him! I thought he acted Caspian out to a tee. I couldn't have really asked for more, actually. Caspian was everything I thought he would be and then more! I have nothing but love and admiration to say about Ben and Caspian. They were brilliant to put it simply. if nothing else go see PC for Caspian! :P

Caspian/Susan (aka Suspian): yay! That was very happily well handled. In fact, as my mom said, if you didn't know it would be in the movie you might not've picked up on it til the end. I was very relieved that it was just subtlly added in. Phew, I was worried about that but other than the kiss in the end and a few looks at each other it wasn't bad at all! And the kiss is quick and it could be called a farewell kiss although I'm not sure if I would call it that. ;) It was a little more then that, but it wasn't horrible at all. For which I am very, very happy. Once again they handled one of their changes everyone was worried about with class.

Aslan: yeah, he has a much smaller role in PC, but he's in it about as much as he was in the book. I thought he was perfect though. :)

Reepicheep: One word suits him: AWESOME! :teehee: Reep was so cool and so, so well done! I was really impressed with him and like Caspian I can't say enough about him. :) I couldn’t have asked for a better Reep, actually. "Nuts? Oh, so we can throw them at the Telmariens? Shut up!"

The lords in VODT: I was very pleased they were added into the movie. very, very pleased.

The storyline: ok, so the beginning of the movie goes really quick, I must say. They really abridge and rush both Caspian's leaving Miraz's castle and the Pevensies coming back to Narnia. Everything is quickened maybe too much for me even. Especially the telling of how Caspian escapes the castle after Miraz's son is born. But it works out in the end because all throughout the story they explain things better and they do end up going through it thoroughly, so the rushing in the start is forgivable. The only thing I was a little sad about was the Pevensies discovering the ruins they were in used to be Cair Paravel. That went quite a bit faster than it goes in the book and it's a good part in the book too so I was slightly disappointed there. But oh well. And once the movie gets going I think it started to follow the book closer. and once the Pevensies meet up with Caspian it goes really well. And the raid on Miraz's castle was a absolute perfect addition to the story! Sure it wasn't in the book but I LOVED it in the movie. The raid was a very smart add-in, IMO. It was great to see Caspian, Susan, Edmund and Peter work together and try to overthrow Miraz that way. And that was also the scene where I started really falling in love with Edmund. That's about when he really starts to shine. :) But the retreat from the castle was extremely sad. It almost made me cry... :'( I mean, looking at Peter's face when all the Narnians who can't get out in time are left behind was horrible. :( I felt so bad for him and those Narnians. And then Ed flies over and sees all of their dead bodies inside and it's simply heartbreaking. *sniffle*

calling the White Witch back: this was the only scene I wasn't impressed with at all. I seriously didn't care for it. It wasn't even remotely in the book like that and I really think they could've handled it much better. I mean, Nikabrick is trying to have Caspian call the Witch back and she comes up in that icy thing and it is almost like he's in a trance and he can't help it. And she does talk to him and try to trick him into freeing her because she says she can help him kill his uncle and take the throne. But then Peter comes in with Edmund and Lucy (and I think Susan) and stops Caspian before he does it. But then Jadis tries to talk Peter into freeing her and he doesn't say anything and it's like he's in her trance too... :erm: it was just "meh". the only good thing I WILL say about it is when Edmund stabs his sword through the ice and gets rid of her before Pete can do anything stupid. I thought that was cool the way he was sorta the one who stepped up and defended his brother and killed her. "I know, you had it under control."

On the end: that was the other scene where I felt like crying. :( it was sad to see Peter and Susan talking to Aslan and him telling them they could never return to Narnia. :'( And then after Caspian is crowned king and before they walk through the doorway to our world they tell Lucy and Edmund they won't be coming back to Narnia. That was really hard to see and to see if from their point of views. So maybe when Susan learns that she figures she might as well embrace this world and try to forget Narnia or else it'll hurt too much. That might be why she changes so much. It's hard to think about it so it's better to pretend it never happened. Anyway, I was sad to watch poor Susan and Peter! *sniffle* And even for Lucy and Ed it would've been hard because sure they knew they would return but who knows what would've happened in Narnia by the time they did! All of their new friends might be dead! :erm: but it was a nice bittersweet ending... oh, I also loved when they were parading through the streets and Caspian had the crown on. :-D that was fantastic! and in those last scenes I am absolutly in love with Susan and Lucy's dresses! :swoon:

btw, Dear Little Friend (D.L.F) was included in the story! whee! :-D

Anyway, I thought it was expertly handled. No, it's not like LWW. There is more going on and it does seem to be bigger and covering more people and more space than LWW. It seems like in the first one it was very much condensed to just the Pevensies and a few others. This one involves more people and more places. But each are VERY good and very lovable in their own way.

Now if I could only find someone to take me to see it again... (yes, it was that good)

For Narnia!

squee *bounces off*

^ Just commenting on some of what you had to say:

Edmund was great in this one. Getting rid of the White Witch has to be one of his best parts! Also the night raid. And Edmund acting as messenger for Peter and his conversation with Miraz was funny.

Oh, Reepicheep at the end/Lucy healing him was hilarious. The music! It was cheesy but cute and I loved it!

Aslan was wonderful. Took him forever to show up but once he did it was awesome. Him and Lucy on the bridge was funny... Lucy takes out her little dagger and smiles sweetly at the Telmarines... haha.

lol, duh! We posted at the same time! :P how weird is that...

anyway, I completely agree... Ed getting rid of Jadis was brilliant and I LOVED when he was talking to Miraz! that was just brilliant... Ed really shined in this one, I will say it again.

Oh, yes! I loved Reep at the end... although I loved him through the whole thing! lol :P

Aslan was brilliant... I loved him and I thought he was in it just as much as he was in the story so it was all good. Oh, I know! The bridge scene was so funny. :teehee: duh, I knew I should've looked up how to spell Telmarines but my mind was so "out there" with everything in the movie that I forgot! I am such a dork. :P

There's like a million different things about the movie that's great... hard to focus on any one thing... I'm still hyper/excited/etc because it was so awesome :D
