Thanks Eä.

The story IS definently twisted, but I think it is enjoyable too. It definently keeps you captivated.

Ahhh... I want to see it so badly!

My sister promised me she'd take me. But my theater isn't showing it now (it only shows 2 movies a week) and I don't think they will be. My other choice will be driving 50 miles to the next theater... argh.

My mom said she saw the play version a while ago... she liked it but the movie version would be way too bloody for her (she can't handle anything lol) pluse she dosn't like Johnny Depp. I'm not really into gore either... I'm sure it will make me squirm, if I ever get to see it :P

Gah! I just saw this yesterday and I absolutely loved it! I was a bit afraid the gore and all that would be too much, but amazingly I wasn't grossed out at all. Johnny Depp was psycotic and his singing [along with the rest of the casts], though not perfect, was good enough for someone with hardly any singing experience.

My favourite part, after all the twists and turns in the plot that I hadn't expected [I've never seen the play you see] was Alan Rickman's character, Judge Turpin. He was quite the slippery fiend, he was, and I have to say I'm more in love with him than ever. :teehee:

I was not sure if I wanted to see this film at first. (I usally don't like horror films ) However oneof my friends convinced me to watch the trailer and now I have decided that I want to see this movie too! :-D Johnny Depp and Alan Rickman are awesome actors (not to mention easy on the eyes ;)), Helena is one of my very favorite actresses, and if I am going to watch a horror film I prefer Tim Burton's horror movies. So I am on board! Although sadly (since it garnished an R rating) I will have to wait until it comes to dvd. :'( My mum said though that since it is rated R only for bloody graphic violence (from what I have read thus far) that we might could rent it one day and watch it together! I feel pretty confident that I will Eventualy get to see it... :) So I can not wait for it to come to dvd! :bounce: ( lol)

JF, Your mum does not like Helena Bonham Carter? Does she just get bored of watching her in every Tim Burton movie or does she just flat out dislike her? Didn't her acting career start in England?
Well, the reason for her being in all of Tim's movies is probabley because 1. she is a good actress and 2. her and Tim share a child (with another one on the way). lol So the fact that they live together with children probabley helps ensure herself a leading role in his movies. lol :teehee: (nods and then laughs)
Sweeney Todd is not coming to English theatres until the middle of January? That stinks! :yuck: Sorry to "hear" about that. I hope that you are able to see it soon.

@ Larael - Oh, I see what's going on here.. uh-huh... there's your American relatives thinking you want to spend Christmas with them to enjoy their company... poor souls... how blissfully unaware they are that you really wanted to scoot to the States to watch Sweeney Todd a whole 3 WEEKS! before the rest of us starved-Sweeney fans in the UK get to see it. Nice. :annoyed: ;)

@ DD - No, she likes Tim Burton/JD films she just doesn't like Helena Bonham Carter for some reason... but she dislikes a lot of people so I'm used to it. Yep, it doesn't come out until the 18th of January here in the UK, and I have no idea when I'll be able to see it... which makes me mad... considering most of the cast are British and hey... filmed in the UK! Admittedly, it's a lot shorter now between when the US get films and then the UK (unless you count Ratatouille which was like a 4 month difference) but still, I am annoyed I have to wait. :-(

Oh dear, you've got me, JF. :teehee: It's true. I knew my American relatives must be good for something, and it turns out they were. Truth be told, I had no idea that Sweeney opened in the US so early. I knew the UK release date, but no the US release date. When I saw advertisements for it at the cinema [we also went to see I Am Legend] I was ecstatic. :P Next day I dragged all over-age cousins to the cinema with me.

I really want to go see this. I almost saw it this morning because I needed to be out of the house anyway, but I ended up taking my brothers to see National Treasure (worth it, in my opinion). I did listen to some previews of the music, though, so I already know I'll love that. I'll probably go see it sometime this weekend. :D

My mom took me and my brother to see it today. To be honest, I didn't really like it. It was too bloody for me! I can usually handle gore... but it just made me squeamish.

The only part I really liked about it was Johnny... he is my absolute favorite actor of all time, and thats pretty much the whole reason I saw it. There is somthing about him that makes my soul melt... haha :teehee:

Sweeney Todd is my absolute favorite movie now, hands down. I've already gone and seen it twice. It's amazing! I still can't get over how well Johnny sang. I probably should have known he could sing, though. After all, he was in a band.
But to any Buffy fans out there, did you see Giles? :) He's not credited, but he shows up really close to the camera somewhere in the street around the contest scene I believe. :) I don't know if that's the scene or not, but he's there.

JF, I am sorry to hear that. Ah, yeah she does not like Ben from Lost either does she? Oh well.
Wow, that is a long time. I am Very sorry that it will not be released in England until the 18th.
You have a Very good point there. As much as I am looking forward to seeing this movie. I think that it should have been released in America and England on the same day or in England first. As you said it was filmed in the UK and most of the actors and actresses are British...so it only seems fair to me.

Luthien Star Lover, I am sorry to hear that you did not like it. Was it only that there was too much blood/gore or did you think that the acting/directing/plot/etc was poor as well?

pirateoftherings, That is good. You will have to tell us whether you like it or not later then. :)

Raven Palantiri, Thanks for sharing your opinion about the movie. :)

Actually, I thought the acting, singing, and directing was exellent, I just didn't like all the blood... I mean, it didn't make me sick or anything, but I don't think I'd want to watch it again. Also, the story was depressing... it left me feeling kind of gloomy. Oh well... I love Johnny so i'm glad I saw it.

I loved this film so much. One of my favourite movies in a loooong time. I cannot even describe how amazing it was! Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter were fantastic and absolutely gorgeous even in their horror-movie make-up.

So, yes I am obsessed. I've only seen it once (I definitely want to see it in theatres again before it comes out on DVD though), but I've listened to the soundtrack a million times. That's pretty much all I've listened to in the past couple weeks.

I only vaguely knew the story and hadn't seen a single trailer before I went to see it, which made it really enjoyable the first time because I didn't know what to expect. I was completely captivated the entire time; visually, this movie was very impressive. I've read that it's very different from the stage-version which was much more comedic than this one. Some people who were fans of that version didn't like how dark and depressing this one was, but I just loved it. Tim Burton is a genius. I don't really have any complaints; Alan Rickman was great, and the actor who's wormtail as another creepy character was entertaining.

Haha, yes! I thought he should have sang, it was way too brief :teehee:

i personally thought it was great. i've seen the stage version...not on stage (youtube! :-D ) and though it was different it was still alot alike. i think they did a great job with the adaptation.

giles?? in the movie? where? i missed that somewhere.

Brilliant movie! I loved it, except for maybe the ending, which could have been better. Warning: the paragraph below is bound to have spoilers. DOn't read it if you don't know or don't want to know how it turns out.

Personally, I think this movie was perfectly cast. I mean, perfectly. I couldn't see any actors better suited for the roles. And that's pretty good, considering that I'm used to seeing Alan Rickman as little kiddie movie Snape, not some creepy wife stealing rapist. I don't know about you, but I hated his character. I wanted nothing more than to slap him across the face. I was actually glad when he died. I gave a little cheer! To put it lightly, he was a jerk!
Was it just me, or did others almost start crying when Todd found out about his wife's rape and death? He looked so sad and innocent, at least, just for awhile. I liked how his wife's rape was more implied than shown. I think sometimes directors can get a little "sex crazy" and think a movie needs some sort of sex to be good. I'm glad Burton realized that just by implying it,m it can have the same startling effect in a way that isn't so jarring and hard to watch.

I'm probably the only one that did this, but I laughed when the beat up Andrew (I think that's his name) looked to Joanna's room and starting singing, even though the judge had threatened to kill him. I was imagining the Judge coming out with a shotgun, and cutting his song short by popping a slug into the lovesick pup's head. Seriously, if some strange guy asked me into his house, asked my if I wanted to look at *beep*, threatened to kill me if I even looked at his ward (who he keeps locked up) and then has me beat before I can run out, I'm not going to take time to look into the window and sing.

I really didn't like the ending. Todd needed to live, along with Ms. Lovitt. I wish the little boy wasn't part of the movie at all. Oh, the ending was so stupid! I left the theater thinking that Todd was a jerk, and I never would have felt that way if he didn't kill Lovitt. Ugh! That was just so stupid!
