Yeah sorry Elanor, it got a bit carried away there... I shall keep my mouth shut on the matter from now on

No problem :)

I just watched the BAFTAs (the British version of the Oscars) this evening and Brokeback Mountain won best film, best director and best supporting actor which is pretty cool. I wonder if it will go on to do as well at the Oscars.

This is my last post in this thread.
I feel very passionately about the issues raised in this thread, which I feel are very relevant to the topic.

However, your rules are rules and I'll respect them. With that, I bid this thread farewell.

OOO awesome Elanor!!! Yeah I hope it'll do well at the Oscars too! It really deserves to get as much attention and praise as possible!

I will apologize, Elanor. I was driven by the feeling of my beliefs being completely misunderstood (and I still feel that way), and all that was in my head was to explain what I believe.

I am not blind and have therefore seen I have deeply offended, and I apologize to those people as well. But I, however, do not apologize for my beliefs.

Before I depart, is there anyone who would be open to discussing this by PM?

That's exciting! As much as I'm rooting for it here though, I really don't know who I want to win. So many good movies! But I'm really glad it's getting the recognition it deserves!

Yes, as Elanor said, stop stop STOP! I know that it's hard not to branch off and discuss the movie's subject matter, but please PLEASE keep on the topic of the actual movie. One of the reasons political issues are taboo on A-U is because it is very easy for people to offend each other on these subjects and harbor bad feelings that carry over to other threads.

I hope we as a moderating team haven't done anything that makes anyone believe that we support political/religious posts of one kind but will ban people for supporting another kind. That is absolutely NOT our intent. I think both sides were at fault here - just because you're in a majority for a while doesn't mean talking about an issue like gay rights is acceptable, NOR does it mean that it's acceptable to give a counter-argument.

At the risk of beating a dead horse here, I want to make one more point. Just because someone makes a political statement does not mean, however strongly you hold your opinions, that you have to jump in and counter it. It's not like you're being cowardly or backing down for holding back. If you see political posts, tell a moderator or me. You guys are all oldies - you know the A-U rules by now!

Yes, I was just reading about that on Yahoo--well done to everyone involved :)

On another note, sorry about contributing to the political issues. I hope I didn't offend anybody.

Awww, Sweden sounds so cool Eru! Canada is weird...we move forward and then the country decides to elect a Conservative government after 12 years of Liberals, urgh.

Hehe. Yes, it is a bit, but it was pretty nice...

I'll say no more, in the risk of embarrassing myself... *toddles off*

Hey Beri, I'll PM you about the two hot males if you like :P I'm sure we'll find plenty to talk about :teehee:

Lol, yeah sure :teehee:

I think you mentioned the soundtrack a couple pages ago, I loved the main song in the movie. They played it at the end, and a couple of other times. It was so catchy, it was stuck in my head for awhile. Now I can't remember how it goes :annoyed:

I loved it too, do you want me to send it to you? I've got it, and quite a few of the other songs too, if you'd like them?
