In my opinion, the ending was perfect. It was done artistically. This was like the best movie in the past year for me, and I loved every millisecond of it. Sweeney Todd needed to die for all that he's done, for if he lived, he would have suffered throughout his entire life filled with regrets. Sweeney had already suffered through prison for 15 years and to find his wife "dead" and his child taken away is sad enough. Sweeney then actually kills his wife, and if he lived, he would probably end up taking his own life or grieve until his dying days. I mean there is a small chance he could've picked up a new life, but it's very hard to forget something traumatic like he experienced.

Nauriel Rochnur, I agree with you completely except for one thing; I think Todd needed to die. However, I don't think the kids should have killed him. I think it would have been more effective if he took his own life. I mean, half of who Todd was was because of Mrs. Lovett. The boy had to hear her confess...
I was definitely not expecting such good singing voices from everyone. One of my teachers was telling us about the movie and how Johnny can't sing, but his voice was much better than my teacher made it seem. I was a little disappointed in it though. I was expecting more of a horror feel. No jump scares or anything, just a darker feel. (Not that it was light-hearted either.) But it was good.

Tobias did kill Sweeney in the story and musical adaptions, so I felt it would have been greatly disagreed by many fans if something else were to happen...

Since in the musical, Tobi grinds the meat grinders after he killed Sweeney in response as the last duties given by Mrs. Lovett.

No one ever has all the answers...

Well, I never heard of it before the movie, so if that's what happened fine. It still would have disappointed me if I saw it on stage I think. It was just, she was the "bad" person here really....or the devil of sweeney's consciouses....gahh! :swoon: things like that bother me..... :-D

Yes, yes, but we can't forget Benjamin Barker chose his decision for revenge. It's what makes the story all-so-desirable. Even if fault started with Mrs. Lovett, it was not her hand that chose to slit any Innocent's neck. Sweeney agreed on the terms for his revenge and for her business and her sided love.

*dances round room*

I am sooooo happy, I just saw ST today!!!

[bounces round barber shop]

I loved, loved, loved, loved it!! Admittedly, I felt depressed as hell when it ended, but there was so much to like about it and remember.

First off, Johnny. He HAS to win an Oscar for that. The dude can sing and act. 'Nuff said. I thought he had a wonderful voice, a great tone, sweet and sometimes raspy. And I felt so sad for him but at the same time there was always a feeling that he could turn very quickly. I liked the hint of danger.

Secondly, the visual treat. ST is technically Tim Burton's best film. Although grey and gloomy, the costumes and the set design were fantastic and although not pretty, it was stunningly beautiful in it's own way.

Thirdly, the blood. Yeah, I know I'm weird, but I loved all the scenes invloving blood and death. Me and my brother were in heaps of laughter during the scene where it was just slit throats upon slit throats upon slit throats. It was so over the top, that I just couldn't help finding it amusing.

Helena Bonham Carter and all the rest of the cast were very good. I felt sorry for Mrs. Lovett I think, and although she probably was selfish in keeping the truth from ST, I think she meant well. Alan Rickman... gah.... I loved his close-ups... ... I'm not sure about the girl who played Joanna, her voice was annoying. But the guy who played Anthony, he had a nice voice. Trouble was, you wanted to get back to ST and Mrs. L when other people were singing.

I loved the end scene as well, that was so fitting and poignant. I think that basically, for all the humour and weirdness, it really is a tragic story.

I am now off to buy the soundtrack and the accompanying making of book. :D

I knew if I looked hard enough I'd find something about AR in your post. For a minute I thought you'd forgotten the poor bloke! But aye, if JD doesn't win an Oscar I'll march over to the US and start my own strike.

Ooh, la la! I couldn't have done that! But admittedly I was looking more at Johnny and watching him more when they were together, but otherwise my eyes were on him! :D

It was so very weird though the first scene when JD appeared and started singing. I mean, obviously I expected it but it was so strange to begin with. :P

OMG... I must say.. that was really odd... seeing Sweeney Todd having posted in the thread, but sure dear friend, I'll come back to haunt this thread pretty soon and rant about the marvel of the movie. I just need to do some more preparations for Spain... :-)

Brilliant, brilliant banner - as always, dear Gimli :P

I loved the movie. I've only seen it once, but I can say for sure that I need to see it again.

^ I heartily concur. :D I doubt very much if I will get to see it again in the cinema, so I'll make do with listening to the soundtrack over and voer again.

I don't have the soundtrack yet. :(
College is craziness, and I have had no time to do anything!!!

I am already counting down the days until it comes out on video.
