Haha, funny that this thread has been brought up just now. I was just talking about this film with my mom! Well actually, in my film class at school, we are doing a group presentation on a movie director. Today, we split into groups and chose a director, and my group chose M. Night Shyamalan. Funny thing is, I'm going to be presenting a bit on The Village. I might use this thread for reference!

I just watched it this afternoon and...
... WOW!
Actually, I caught the end on TV once like a year ago, so that kind of ruined the suspense for me. On the plus side, it saved me a lot of agony and probably nightmares tonight. And I was glad to actually understand what was happening.
(I was a bit annoyed that Adrien had to die instead of Joaquin... But I did like Lucius and Joaq so I guess life will go on. )

Isn't it excellent? It's probably the best of all the films that abcfamily aired. An American Haunting annoyed me because it became so repetitive and they wanted to add to the suspense but it wasn't adding.
The Village had a perfect level of suspense and drama. I love you M. Night Shyamalan!

JF. xD Englehorn's off limits.
Anyways. A thing I noticed as I watched the abcfamily airing of The Village was that they editted the part where Noah stabs Lucius. We see him stab him the first time. Lucius falls and then Noah walks away---cut scene. But we all know that there was more to that, and I don't know how I feel about them cutting that scene?
Was it necessary or unnecessary?

If you say so Kit. Muahuahauhaua....
Hmm... well actually I always found that scene to be more violent than the original stabbing scene, because Noah knows by this point what he has done, he has caused injury and pain to his friend, so going back and repeating the stabbing is kinda shocking and more upsetting than the previous incident.
Now depending when the film was shown, and at what time that scene would have appeared, I can see why the edited it out. It doesn't actually change or enhance the story in any way, all we learn from that scene is that Noah was willing to hurt someone even more. And as the first stab wound looked pretty deep, we can't even say that the edited scene was needed to show that Lucius was seriously ill, as we saw that already with the first knife wound.
I would prefer it if every film was allowed to be shown on TV as it was meant to be, but what can you do? You just have to hope that the scenes they do cut out, don't stop people from enjoying and understanding the film.

I agree with JF, on both points. It was pretty violent to see Noah repeatingly stabbing Lucius up the the hilt of the knife, and since they probably had to edit some to fit into the time slot they took out that scene.

*agrees* Compared to the rest of the movie, Noah stabbing Lucius several times was violent, and if it was a family station, that could be why the edited it out. And like Taur said, time limits could have factored in there, too.

I actually felt having that scene in was necessary for the severity of what Noah did, or what he didn't realize he was doing. I really don't find it realistic that Lucius would be in a coma and fighting for his life for a single stab wound as opposed to multiple stab wounds.

I completely agree, but I think the point was to turn down the severity. Plus, a ten year old would think it was completely plausible. But I do think that if it had been shown to a more adult audience they should and probably would leave it in.
