I really don't think children would really pay attention to what the important themes of the Village. I think they would watch it for the scary parts (which is very few in this film and I like that). The Village should be aimed for older viewers, probably 14+.

I couldn't agree more, but I think the ABC Family television executives got paid either way. ;)

I FINALLY bought my own copy of The Village today and am watching it as I'm typing this up. Oh Lucius! [swoon]

Lol. Thank you, JF.
As silly as it may sound, I didn't realize a bit of foreshadowing at the beginning until now. Ivy takes Noah to the Quiet Room and strikes the deal with him to never "strike" a person.

Noah ends up stabbing Lucius therefore breaking the deal and she subsequently puts him in the Quiet Room. It's .... strange to think of the beginning of the movie at that point of the movie because it's such a fast-paced part of the film, what with Lucius getting stabbed and Ivy + the entire village in a frenzy.

And also of course, Ivy herself ends up striking Noah in what is actually a simple but important scene in the film, as it has a deep effect on both their characters. Noah, because he doesn't understand why she is hitting him like that and Ivy because she behaves completely the opposite to how she normally is.

Agreed. I think that definitely fueled the fire of Noah's madness and what led him to his end. It's tragic and poetic at the same time, just how their relationship molds.

I just saw the movie a few weeks ago for the first time--it was actually pretty good, and since I've had the soundtrack for a few years already, I was already in love with and swept away by the music. ^_^

I felt pretty awful for Noah at the end of the movie, I have to say.
