I LOVE historical films, but I've only seen a few and I know there's a lot more out there for me. What movies do you recommend? I've seen Schindler's List (my all-time favorite), The Pianist, Hunt for Red Oktober, The Diary of Anne Frank, and that's all I can think of right now. |

I quite like "The English Patient" althiough that movie is a bit of a love or hate . There are also many other war movie that I love, though most of them are incredibly sad, like Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, etc. But I prefer the more romantic historical movies to the war-esque (?) ones. |

It depends what you mean my historical? Are we including westerns that depict certain eras in American history? Do war films in general count? Do films set in Victorian England count? 'Cos I'll have a very long list if they do. ![]() |

Thanks for all the recommendations! ![]() Also, I meant historical as in depicting true stories and events in history. Preferably world history, or political rules of countries. |

*grr* Bad movie! Completely incorrect! Sorry. ![]() I'm still confused about the definition of "historical movie", but I'll try to post my favorites. A lot of the ones listed are probably great movies, but I wouldn't think of them as historical. Gods and Generals Gettysburg Pride and Prejudice (the A&E version, haven't seen the new one) |

Okay, let's see here.... Now that you all have mentioned some titles I'll list the movies I've all seen since I've been reminded. 1 --- Schindler's List ( <3 ) 2 --- Hotel Rwanda (<3) 3 --- The Pianist <3! 4 --- The Hunt For Red Oktober (a bit dull and too much Sean Connery for my tastes) 5 --- Diary of Anne Frank (love) 6 --- Beginning of "Saving Private Ryan" (I ALWAYS see the beginning but never the rest) 7 --- The Patriot ( sad ![]() 8 --- Hidalgo ( cute!) 9 --- We Were Soldiers ( I love this one! ) 10 --- Titanic (who hasn't? I thought it was okay -- a bit too dramatic) 11 --- TROY ( very cool ) 12 --- Remember the Titans 13 --- Walk the Line ( love!) 14 --- Kingdom of Heaven 15 --- Alexander (Bleh) 16 --- King Arthur ( Very good! ) 17 --- Seabiscuit 18 --- Glory I've heard about Gods & Generals actually, though I heard it was very long, longer than necessary? I DO really want to watch the Pride and Pejudice series though. ![]() |
