Umm..am I allowed to make a thread on this movie? If not, a Mod. can kindly lock it. But has anyone seen this movie? I got to see it the day it came out in theaters..back in 2003 I think. I havent seen it in a couple years, only twice. But I think its the saddest movie I have ever seen in my whole entire life and it made me stronger in my faith towards Christ. Though a lot of blood..I thought Satan..gee..was kinda freaky in it. :eyeroll:

But its one of my favorite movies ever. I think its neat how they're speaking a whole different language through it..not sure which it is..Greek or something. Its all captions..but it did not bother me one bit.

{and once again..sorry if this is too relgious. :blush:}

I think this thread can stay so long you don't discuss the religious aspects of it, just talk about the film as a film!

I saw this in theater back in 2004. It was extremely gory but nicely done. The languages they spoke would be Aramaic and Latin.

I thought the film was really good but highly confusing for a person like me who is not really familiar with the story. Mel Gibson only spoke towards one specific audience which was a pity really.

i've never actually seen it and i doubt i ever will. it kind of feels disrespectful not to, as i know christ went through that for me, but i would pass out like ten minutes in - i'm pathetically squeamish.

i did make a point of reading and finding out about it though, and i know that they actually spoke aramaic, not hebrew - aramaic is the language jesus would have spoken.

also, i couldn't understand the fuss the jewish community kicked up about it being anti-semitic - whether you believe christ was resurrected or not, it's historical fact that it was jews who condemned him to death, and you can't argue with history.

what certificate was it elsewhere? it was an 18 here in england, so i'm only just old enough anyway, but TNF i know you're younger than me, so how did you get to see it in the cinema?

^ ah yeah I realized that after I had posted that, it was the Aramaic language that was used and not Hebrew lol

Gory!?! Gory is just a mild understatement!
Alright, I admit, I'm sort of sensitive to movie blood and violence. I was watching it from the third row and I had to leave after 20 minutes, because it made me feel psysical sick. Then I stayed out in the lobby during most of the movie, all pale and trying not to throw up... ehh... But I returned to see the last 5-10 minutes, when they were done with all the violence...
So... I can't really discuss the movie. I saw a glimpse of the Satan figure, but I didn't see enough to get a feeling for how they portrayed him.

At least we're not playing the "we hate the Romans" game. *Feels sorry for the poor abused Romans*

If you are in love with this movie and don't want to hear my ( mostly religion-free) criticism of it, don't read the rest of this post. K?

I haven't seen the movie and I don't really have an urge to. Why, you ask?
-The body can only take so much beating and blood loss, and from the "Ack! So much gore!" I get the feeling that it was rather exaggerated.
-I would be very distracted by the subtitles. :P
-I hate Mel Gibson
-I somehow fail to understand how watching actors act can be a religious experience.

But that's just me.

Well.... the Romans were gorey... and their architechture was stolen from the Greeks.

I haven't seen the Passion, I'd love to, but I can't stand gore that I actually see.

Yeah, it was really gory....and the story of Salvation is my favorite story in the Bible, so I wanted to see it. and my whole family pratcialy had to see it..but we all wanted to.

I didnt feel squimesh at all during it. I dunno why...but it was more sad and I didnt really care for all the blood.

I thought 'Passion' was spectacularly done. From a religious view point, it made me understand the sufferings of Christ on a more human level that before, and I'm glad I watched it. From a non-religious view point, I found it to be slightly gorey, but slightly confusing for those who are not familiar with the actual story.

Eh...I have mixed feelings about this movie. I would really like to see it, and I know I probably should eventually, but this kind of stuff just leaves me physically and emotionally drained. My Bible teacher at school wants to watch it in class, but...I dunno. It's only 3rd period for me, and I don't really want to spend the rest of my day depressed. I can't even watch the toned-down TV versions of the old crucifixion films without getting completely drained, so...yeah. Seems like something I'd watch home alone when I had time to rest after, not in the middle of my school day.

But they did it better than the Greeks. At first they were okay but then they were all "Civil war. Civil war. Civil war." Until the Macedonians came.

@ potr: It was emotionally draining, if not physically draining too. I didn't go see it in the cinema for that reason. I knew I'd need time afterward to kind of get myself back together, if you know what I mean. It was very well done anyway, and if you ever get the time I really encourage watching it. :)

You should read The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel, tim4x. I don't think the movie really exaggerated anything.

I do agree on the 'hate Mel Gibson' thing, though. He gets on my nerves (mostly because of Braveheart and The Patriot--I don't think he fit the roles very well in that)

As for how watching actors act can be a religious experience, it's not so much that it's people acting it out as it is a visual example of what Jesus went through--it sort of drives in the details that aren't really elaborated on in the Bible.

Anyways, I personally...well, I can't really say enjoyed the movie, but it was well done, though I honestly didn't like Jim Caviezel(sp?) playing Jesus.

I haven't seem it...besides the fact I'm underage, I probably couldn't stand the gore. I'm waiting til I'm old and mature, and just reading the Book it was based on for right now. :)

The book it was based on? As in the Bible, or what?
