I just noticed we have a neat "you know you're obsessed with Star Wars when..." thread so (in my boredom
) I was wondering if anyone would object to a "you know you're [s]obsessed[/s] passionate about PotC when..." thread. I don't mean to be a copy-cat or anything I just thought it'd be fun for us Pirates fans.
So without further ado...
You Know You're Passionate About Pirates of the Caribbean When...
1.) you have almost all three movies memorized and you love saying quotes from them
2.) When you start using quotes like "much more better" and "what arr ya doin'?" as part of everday conversations
3.) When you start buying things just because they have PotC (or your favorite character) on them.
4.) you take more notice of goths and people who wear black because they tend to wear Piratey things, and skulls and crossbones should be the norm, in your opinion
5.) when things that have nothing whatsoever to do with PotC bring it to your mind.
6.) when you see words like "taken" and see "kraken" or "beckett" instead of "bucket
7.) When you make your mom buy you signed autographs from the cast on Ebay
8.) when you run out and buy the one-volume 3-movie novelization, because even if you know all three by heart, there's stuff in there that WASN'T in the movies that you MUST have.
9.) You get into the habbit of saying "Aye."
10.) In reunions,you always have long explanations about the pirates' code and were could possibly the rum have gone.
11.) your first port of call when entering the Disney store is to go straight to the POTC section
12.) you go drag all of your friends into Claire's to show them what PotC merchandise you want for your birthday.
13.) instead of saying "yay" you start saying "huzzah."
14.) you "marry" one of the characters.
15.) you invent a different ending to AWE and you keep alive someone who died
16.) you like to go up to people, brandish a finger, and point at them, in a Jack Sparrow-ish way
17.) if you stumble, you say "Oh, that's why!"
18.) you give all the characters random nicknames, and refer to them as such when you talk about them.
19.) you decide that the guy you marry must have the same last name as a character from POTC, or else one of the actors.
20.) when you enter a store (any store!) and automatically keep your eyes open for anything and everything that may have even a trace of PotC on it... and even if it's the dumbest thing in the world you instantly think it's awesome.
21.) you know that if you get the POTC trivial pursuit, it will end up where no-one will play you because of your awesome POTC knowledge.... muhauahauaha
22.) you will never think of Davy Jones' Locker the same way again.
23.) you will never think of the Caribbean or Caribbean pirates in the same way
24.) you see a sparrow, swan, or tern and go "Hi Jack/Elizabeth/Will!"
25.) you start thinking "swan" is spelled wrong - there should be TWO "n"s.
26.) Will and Elizabeth's anniversary is written on your calendar and you celebrate it.
27.) the names Jack and Will are cool and you know why
28.) you've changed your pronoucation from "Caw-rib-be-an" to "Care-rib-be-an" and from "Kray-kan" to "Krack-en"
29.) you can make a referance from almost anything (something people say or do) back to POTC
30.) you have at least one item of clothing that has skull and crossbones on it
31.) when you skip around your house humming (or singing) "I've got a jar of diiirt, I've got a jar of diiirt..."
32.) If someone says'Pirates are evil!' you say 'No they aren't! And you tell all the movies and you call the pirate-hater 'idiot'or eunuch,for the matter.
33.) you know all the cast names and which characters they play
34.) when you accidentally almost call someone you know the name of one of the characters
35.) when you can listen to a random piece of POTC music and know whereabouts it is in the film and whose "theme" it is
36.) you can't hear the words "hat", "jar", "dirt", "monkey", or "parley" anymore without cracking up.
37.) you appreciate all old looking ships because they remind you of POTC
38.) you hear about some one or meet some one the name of one of the characters (first or last name) and you automatically think of that character
39.) When you see Johnny Depp in any other movie, you cannot think of him as anyone except Captain Jack Sparrow.
40.) you try to figure out exactly how much time passed during the movie, and what day it was when James Norrington died, so you can remember that day.
41.) when you count down the days 'til AWE on dvd
42.) when people ask you what you want to be when you grow up you say a Pirate... and when they look at as if you've grown another head, you wonder why
43.) when you sometimes hum "Hoist the Colors" while doing housework.
44.) your MP3 player or whatever is full of POTC tun
45.) when you even DREAM PotC
46.) you can play the POTC tunes on an instrument
47.) when you try to perfect your English accent (for us Americans that is) just to try to sound like the characters
48.) you use time in class to draw portraits of POTC characters when you should be working.
49.) when you blast said PotC music, and make your friends mad
50.) you listen non stop to your PotC playlist
51.) when you almost want to be young enough to go trick-or-treating just so you can dress up like your favorite character
52.) when you saw the films more than once in the cinema
53.) when you want to name your children Jack, Will, Elizabeth, James, David, Hector, etc.
54.) when you search all over the internet just for a certain PotC picture you absolutely can't live without
55.) when you spend way too long making graphics or looking for graphics to use
56.) you get to play the soundtrack in youth orchestra!
57.) when you plan on going out the day AWE is out on DVD to buy it and you watch it ASAP after you get it
58.) when you and your best friend were so bored one day you got the idea to make a Pirates parody movie with your stuffed animals. And then you started working on it.
59.) when you get into debates with your friends about why exactly James Norrington was a good character
60.) when you write 80+ pages of fanfiction..
61.) when all your doodlings seem to somehow always turn out with some sort of PotC theme
62.) when you can clearly imagine your math teacher being swallowed up by the kraken.
63.) your DVD player almost always has one of the Pirates in it.
64.) you buy a fishtank just because it comes with a Jack Sparrow figurine, and then you name the fish that you bought for it Kraken because it keep swimming around Jack.
65.) when the forum makes you sound like a pirate.
66.) you tag on savvy to everything you say, savvy?
67.) when you love to talk to anyone about your pirate obsession. If they bring it up, you'll talk about it.
68.) when you can't think of something to say, you just say "Aye, avast!"
69.) when you want to go to the Caribbean one day and explore all the islands and go to the places (however remote) where they filmed PotC or where PotC was suppose to take place.
70.) you laugh just as hard when you see it for the hundredth time as when you saw it for the first time.
71.) when you rewind and watch your all-time favorite scene over and over and over and over and over
72.) you like to act it out with the characters while your watching it.
73.) When you have in your dresser drawer seven (empty) bags that once held M&Ms, that you've kept because they have PotC on them.
74.) When your little brother buys a Will Turner action figure and you play with it more than he does.
75.) When you can play He's A Pirate on the piano, and are so well-known for doing so that anytime you go near the instrument someone goes, "play the pirate song!"
76.) When, having run out of wall space, you seriously consider putting Will's poster on the ceiling directly above your bed, so you can see him when you wake up.
77.) when you buy and eat the PotC cereal just to say you have...... and to get the box.
78.) when you buy the actions figures and set up little dioramas of different scenes from the movies
79.) you know the soundtracks by heart and they start playing in your head during the school day (when you didn't want them to
).
80.) you decide exactly how many Turner kids there should be, and give them names (first and middle).
81.) every time you hear the word "pirate" you automatically tack on "of the Caribbean."
82.) you're automatically interested in any movie if you see one of the stars from PotC is in it.
83.) when the theme your school's Sadie Hawkins "dance" (aka bowling
) is Disney, you decide to go as Elizabeth and make your best guy friend/date go as Will, even though he has short hair and you're a brunette.
84.) when you have thousands of pictures/graphics of PotC on your computer and insist you still don't have enough...
85.) you notice, while attempting to write an essay about Sydney Carton from A Tale of Two Cities, the amazing similarities between Carton and James Norrington, and wish you could write the essay about Norrington instead because it would be so much easier.
86.) when all your friends think you're crazy because some of the characters you like in PotC aren't the ones normal people like
87.) when a commerical for AWE comes on and you silence everyone in the room and repeat every word said in the trailer.
88.) when anything to do with PotC comes on tv and you crank the volume up as loud as you dare just because you want to hear it as best as you can.... and maybe even to "force" other people to hear it
89.) you compile your own soundtrack because even though Hans Zimmer is an absolute genius, you can't listen to your favorite songs without thinking of one POTC character/story element or another.
90.) You can run like Jack Sparrow
91.) You HAVE a Jar of Dirt
92.) You've told someone to stay away from your jar of dirt
93.) You don't just talk like a pirate on Talk Like A Pirate Day
94.) when you want to buy a toy sword because it's a PotC toy sword and it looks almost just like Will's
95.) when your mother knows that Will's your favorite character, and surprises you with an action figure of him. Then you decide he looks too lonely on your shelf all alone, so you run out to Big Lots at 9:30 PM to buy an Elizabeth for him.
96.) when you think of buying an Elizabeth costume just because you want to. Not that you're going to wear it anywhere but you think it would be neat to have one and be able to dress up like her if you want
97.) you spend your spare time learning to talk like Jack.
98.) when you've watched CotBP and DMC over a dozen times and you promise yourself that you'll do the same for AWE.
99.) You wished you lived back then to see if there really was a Jack Sparrow and Will Turner.
100.) when you decide that you can't watch one movie more than the others, they MUST be equal, just like the LOTR movies, because they are a trilogy. So you figure out how many times you've seen CotBP (14 for me) and watch DMC (and eventually AWE) that many times, and not more.
101.) when almost all your conversations always somehow find there way back to PotC.
102.) you want to go to Colonial Williamsburg and dress up and pretend to be the characters from PotC
and there you have it.... so far all 102 known symptoms of the Passion for Pirates "disease".
