Those two movies are some of my favorites. Other than Lord of the Rings, they probably are my favorites.
I've always found the American Civil War fascinating, and what really gets me about these movies is the way they portray neither side as being evil, but rather having different opinions and fighting for what they believed.
I would tend to side with the North, because that's where I live and slavery was never as much an issue here as in the South. I like to think that I would have been against slavery if I lived in that time. But what scares me is the fact that if I had been brought up in the south, I would almost definitely have agreed with them...that makes little sense, but what I'm trying to convey is that it's not by any strength or wisdom of mine that I think the way I think! It's amazing how much of a person's thoughts are 'crontrolled' by their parents. This isn't to say anything negative about my parents, only that for many years we believe everything they tell us and don't think for ourselves until we are nearly adults.
I really love learning about Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, I think he must be my favorite Civil War hero. And he has a great mustache.

He was born in Maine, for one thing, and taught at Bowdoin college...
So I was wondering if anyone else liked these movies...
