Well, we've got a thread about Game of Thrones already, so I figured it was only fair to start a thread about the OTHER new premium channel medievalish-fantasy show with unnecessary amounts of nudity and unbelievably gorgeous cast members No, I'm being unfair to both shows, but between GoT, Camelot, and The Borgias (not that that one is fantasy), it does seem like marketers have a very specific idea of what audiences are looking for right now.
Anyway, has anyone been watching it? What do you think so far? How do you think it measures up to / will go over with fans of the BBC's Merlin?
I was a bit dubious at first, because it seemed like a blatant attempt to meld fantasy with more mature subject matter...sort of The Tudors with the fantastical element thrown in...and because King Arthur movies and shows have been done absolutely to death. But...I'm a sucker for fantasy, and I love Eva Green, so I started watching. I think I like it so far. The cast is quite pretty, the scenery is quite pretty, the score is quite pretty...there's lot of prettiness. (Arthur is too pretty and I keep expecting him to start singing "Joannaaaaaaa!".) I like where they're going with establishing that magic takes a physical toll on its practitioners. And it's just a fun romp.
But...I have to say, after four episodes of Camelot and only one episode of Game of Thrones, GoT is already in the lead for me Poor Starz.

bumping to say I finally started watching this and it is wonderful and I love the Excalibur-esque darkness the show has. Jamie Cambell Bower has been a very pleasant surprise. Joseph Fiennes is <3 and Eva Green is fantabulous. Special mention to James Purefoy for being a hot evil *beep*.
Huzzah! As much as I do enjoy the show, especially for Eva Green (and to be fair, JCB isn't quite as whiny and effeminate as I feared he'd be), it's hard to watch it alongside Game of Thrones, just because GoT is so much more fascinating. But I'm curious to see how they'll deal with the Guinevere plot-line and whether they plan on introducing a Lancelot character at any point. I hope they concentrate on continuous story arcs rather than stand-alone adventure episodes, though, because the couple episodes that ventured into tidily-wrapped-up-for-the-week territory bored me

I haven't watched any more episodes since my last post. But I intend to when GoT ends. Like you say it's hard to watch both shows when one is so amazing and intense and the other just isn't quite making the grade. I do like Camelot though, my Arthurian fangirl can't help herself.
I was surprised that Guinevere was romantically attatched to someone not Lancelot. But I guess I'll see what happens soon enough.
I did like the different take in the Sword in the Stone myth though.
Well folks, it's been canceled after one season I can't say I'm surprised, given the competition, and if I'm anything like the average viewer (...well, probably not), the fact that I forgot to watch the end of the season because Game of Thrones was so amazing doesn't speak so well for Camelot Oh well...I was looking forward to seeing where they'd take the story, though.

Was disappointed to hear that it had been cancelled. I'm a fan of GoT as well as Starz's Spartacus but I was really looking forward to seeing what would happen in the next season.

Can't say I've seen this one. But then, if it doesn't air on one of the free-to-air TV stations here, I don't see it. Looks pretty cool based on the youtube clips I been able to watch.
