I simple LOVED the Phantom of the Opera. It wasn't what I expected...but I still really liked it. especially the music, I abolutely adored it, not more then the lord of the rings but still....except..one question. Was she lip singing? Were the all lip singing?

Oh and to answer your ?.. They lip sync to thier own voices. In other words, they did all the singing. Except for Carlotta. lol

Yup, loved it! Seen it 3 times They all did their own singing, except for Carlotta. Except I expect that the actors pre-recorded the singing parts separately from the filming, so that's why in some musical numbers (like "Think of Me") it doesn't look like the actors are quite in synch with the song.

Ok, thanks for the lip-sync info, because it looks like their voices, but they don't quite look in sync with their songs (like Arwen said)

Another example is the song "If Only You Were Here Again" I think that's the title of the graveyard song with Christine singing only. You could actually see the lip-sync.
But it does make sense to do that -- seperating filming from the singing.
I believe the singer that played Carlotta in London lip-synced for Minnie Driver but Driver did sing Learn to Be Lonely.

I've read the book about two or three times, have seen it in the cinema once, and on DVD many times! I like the movie, it's an "escape", though parts of it disturb me, and the music dissipointed me. Overall I like it though. It gets better with every viewing! One of those stories that grow on you...well, at least, grow on ME

I LOVE IT. I've read the book many times, seen the play, watched the movie. I loved Minny Driver as Carlotta, though she didn't sing. I thought she was fantastic. Not many people think this way, but I loved Gerald Butler's voice. Maybe I'm bias since he is Irish, but I thought he was amazing. Didn't hurt that he's gorgeous.
I'm learning to sing the Phantom songs, the only one I'm having difficultly is with Wishing You were Somehow here again.

I loved it!! I saw the movie in theatres three times and have read the book, as well. I've never seen the real musical, which makes me sad, but what can you do? It's not as easy to go travel to Toronto or something as it is to pick up a book and read it.
I thought the music was good....wasn't overly fond of Gerard Butler's voice, but he was very lovely looking anyways. The others sang excellently.

I also loved it, and Emmy Rossum was great in it. I rented the DVD and saw some old videos with the original cast, and OMG was the phantom not so my type, hahaha. So what I liked here is that the phantom actually is good looking and it's not so easy for Christine to decide between the 2 men. His voice was ok, I really liked Music of the Night.

I wish I could sing the Phantom songs, but Christine's are mostly too high for my range, and Raoul's and the Phantom's parts are too low, and if I move them an octave up then they're too high. So I'm stuck just sort of humming along. Some of Christine's parts are ridiculously high, though. The last note she hits in "The Phantom of the Opera" is the E above the C two octaves above middle C, which I can't even hit with a squeak.
