I saw the trailer for this film yesterday, whilst I was waiting for <I>King Kong</I> to start--and it looks very interesting. It's a love story, but what makes it interesting is that the couple in question are both men. Here's the description of it--

"<I><B>Brokeback Mountain</B> tells the story of Ennis Del Mar (Ledger) and Jack Twist (Gyllenhaal), two young cowboys who meet on a sheep herding job in the mountains of Wyoming in the summer of 1963 and fall in love. The film follows their lives over the next two decades and documents their continuing but complex and secret emotional and physical relationship, which continues even after they each marry women and father children. Through it all, Ennis and Jack fight to fulfill the love that captured them both during their first summer together.</I>"

<B>Tagline:</B> <I>Love Is A Force Of Nature.</I>

I read today that it has been released in some parts of the US, and it comes over here [UK] on January 6th, 2006. If anyone has seen it, what did they think of it? And if you haven't seen it, what do you think about the plot and what the film is about? Do you think it works?

I don't think I'll get much of a chance to see it. But I'd like too. The story sounds so compelling.
May have to get this on dvd when it's released.

Oh my goodness! I want to see it SO bad! Ever since I saw an article about it in Newsweek quite a while back I've been waiting very impatiently for it to come out! You know what's interesting, is one of the girls (not Anne Hathaway) but the other one is from Montana! Yay! That's where I'm from, but anyways, apparently she's engaged to Heath and had his kid! That's what I heard.

BUT! I can't WAIT to go see it! I know I'm gonna love it!

Awww :(

What happened to make it heartbreaking?

I don't care about spoilers :)

The film is heartbreaking because it illustrates the horrible truth that many people must hide themselves out of the fear of others' wrath were they to find out...

I've seen it and I must be part of the small minority that disliked it. I think it's overrated and beside from the radicalism of having two gay cowboys, the plot really isn't that interesting. I'm not homophobic but watching two guys mauling each other was uncomfortable. Heath Ledger was great, very convincing. The ending was sad and made me feel depressed because ultimately it makes one realize that love IS a force of nature, it can't be helped or controlled and the love between two human beings is more powerful

**SPOILER**

Jack (Gyllenhaal) gets killed because he's gay. It's more sad in the context of the plot.

Oh my goodness, that's horrible! I really did not expect that at all. I'm going to see it tomorrow, so I can see for myself. I bet I won't even like it after this, lol :P

It looks good, cause I like heath ledger and jake. A new role to take on...a cowboy in love with another cowboy  I was surprised at first.

^ That's probably be a good idea, MontanaBohemian :P

I know, I was a little suprised as well, eowyn--surely in Hollywood people would object? But I think Hollywood sort of needs a film like this, it'd bring the whole issue of homosexuality to some peole's minds. I don't know, but anyway, Jake and Heath will hopefully be good in it :teehee:

I'm going off to see it today, fingers crossed that there's some seats left--I can't wait :D

EDIT [5 hours later]: Well, I saw it, and I thought it was very good. However, like Eden, the two cowboys mauling each otyer about was not very pleasant to see--by this, I mean the first time. The other times, it was fine.
I suppose it's selective taste--either you like it, or you don't. I liked it very much, so there ya go.

Wow. I love this movie. It was pure brilliance. I literally couldn't move once the credits started to role. I was just in such a state of shock and saddness that I couldn't move. I didn't cry because of the shock I was in. Oh man. Beautiful art, pure brilliance. *bows to Ang Lee, Heath Ledger, and Jake* Wow.
