King Kong

By Kitoky

"And lo, the beast looked upon the face of beauty...and beauty stayed his hand."

Publicity: There has been loads of controversy with our dear Peter Jackson's newest production of King Kong. Many critics say that this will be a ground breaking redo of the infamous old black and white King Kong of 1933. Some critics say that Peter Jackson's off his rocker for even attempting to re-make it. But is he that far off his rocker? Well, with the technology for movies these days, I think that PJ's King Kong was the most deserving of an award from all the remakes that have been being produced as of late. This is definitely not a kiddy movie, guys.
One-Word: Spectacular.
Plot: When Ann Darrow's seemingly short-term job in which she relied on in New York city came to a short end. On her attempt to try and keep herself out of the rut, she comes upon an ambitious film director/producer, Carl Denham, and soon she agrees to go on a voyage to "Singapore" to starr in his film. The bait he used? Having the infamous script-writer, Jack Driscoll, writing for the film plot. He is coming along right? With devious tricks, Carl Danham gets all that he needs on board and make sure the ship is set sail before the police comes!
They arrive at an island with a use of a mysterious map --- upon that island, Carl Denham finds exactly what he's looking for....and more than he wants to encounter.
Actors/Characters: With Jack Black on board, people have a right to be skeptical of how good the movie will be -- seeing as though his resume is stuffed with comedy or....what we think is comedy [it has yet to create a whole new genre of its own]. Jack Black is absolutely SUPERB in this film. His character is developed at the beginning as Carl Denham, humorously so, and you really can't help but want to [s]deck[/s] absolutely karate chop him up until he all he can do is crawl away from you by the end of the movie. "I'm someone you can trust, I'm a movie producer."
Naomi Watts, the true beauty and star of the film. She is a truly talented actress to have taken on the role of Ann Darrow. I mean, she's getting THROWN everywhere and I'm pretty sure she had to work with green/blue screen for the 7/8 of the time on shoot! From her amazing performance in The Ring and Ellie Parker, she's definitely not just a beauty --- she has a very wide-range of character she plays. Ann Darrow was a well developed character from the moment we laid eyes on her on the stage of a run down theater ---- sporting a beautiful mustache and juggling objects and doing extraordinary flips! "Beautiful."
Other Actors: I love Adrien Brody (Jack Driscoll), who doesn't? Even if he does have a huge thing of a honker. He has got the whole 'love-struck' look down PAT! Andy Serkis as Kong was done beautifully! Absolutely KUDOS to Andy! Playing TWO characters in the movie. I am very much impressed by the character development of the minor characters as well, which has a sense of PJ in it as well. He doesn't leave the characters that are going to die, just be there. They're characters. "Actors! They travel the world, and all they see is a mirror." -Jack Driscoll
CGI/WETA: Wow, I must really love WETA. Yes. I love WETA. I love Richard Taylor. I love Alan Lee. I love John Howe. I love all of New Zealand. But let's continue with the review and leave the swooning to the Swoon board. PJ and WETA have accomplished SO much with producing Kong and the dinosaurs, and all the other creatures on Skull Island I was SO impressed and absolutely fridgtened by all of them! Let's just say I don't complain about anything against WETA!
AUDIO: At some points it starts to get where it's simply too loud --- but that's how it is, there's so much action that there's not a moment where it isn't completely quiet.
FACTS: There are things that are included that were in the original, but there are always things that have been added because at the time of the original King Kong, it would've never have worked. So PJ is putting in anything he can. It's a long movie, and at the beginning, you feel as though it's a very long movie but once you get into the 1st hour of the movie, it PICKS UP. That's PJ's style. And you will see how similar it is to Fellowship of the ring as he used that beginning time to develop character and plot before the action comes.
OVERALL GRADE: 9/10 - A +

Aww...Kit, I really wanna see the movie now. I haven't had anytime lately. Your review was amazing! Long, but amazing! I agree that Naomi Watts is a good actress. Adrien may not be a hunk, but he does seem to attract some of the ladies. Everytime I see the trailer I wanna see the movie even more. How can you not be happy with weta and pete? Weta has done amazing cgi. I'm so glad P.J. finally gets to show his work in King Kong. He would have made it earlier, but wasn't it because of the movie, might joe young?

Might Joe Young? Unfortunately, I haven't heard of that one. Though I only knew of PJ because of Lord of the Rings. Sad, isn't it?
Peter Jackson also plays someone in the movie, lol big surprise! But be sure to see if you can spot him!

He does? Where is he in the movie?
I've seen Mighty Joe Young, a really really long time ago... can't quite remember what its about on the tip of my mind
Did you know Andy Serkis is the cook Lumpy? Took me a little while to register that fact..
I really did want to sock Carl throughout the movie.. he got sooo annoying, but yeah you kinda have to admire Jack Driscoll, he's brave for just being a playwright.

PJ plays one of the pilots. I love PJ.
Yeah, I saw that --- I instantly thought "Oy! It's Andy!" He looks really good! But when he was shooting at those bugs, lol! That was hilarious.
I fell in love with Jack Driscoll Tanth. He's got lovely eyes! And I fell in love with Captian Englehorn. He's so cuuuuuuute. I was mad that he suddenly disappeared after they got back to New York.

Okay, Izzy. I'll go fix that.
I don't think Carl Denham intended to go to Singapore though --- it's an exotic place which attracts many actors/actresses to sign on board for his film, that was his trick to get him on board. He was always really intending to Skull Island.

Okay but the part where Kong tears open the T-Rex's mouth and kills it like that .... Argh, I covered my eyes. All I couljd think at that moment was "Oh my god, PJ's a SICKO!"

Ack, you guys are crazy! I would've never have survived that --- especially since the beginning is a slow start.
