My best friend and I have three movies that we call "sacred". What we mean is that they're so special to us that we need to treat them with respect. We speak of them almost reverently sometimes, and sometimes don't like to watch or share them with other people for fear of them making light of it. They're just special to us.
These three movies for us are Lord of the Rings (duh), Pride and Prejudice (we're in love with Mr. Darcy!) and Phantom of the Opera (just...wow...music...orchestral genius).
What movies are "sacred" to you?

I'm kind of protective of LotR like that. But I do love showing it to people. One time my grandma walked into the room when the rest of us were watching FotR. And let me tell you, she really doesn't like fantasy. The first thing she said after seeing the prologue was, "Well, what's the point?"
I must say, I really wanted to say a few things to her...

Sacred? Hm - LOTR, definately. I can't really think of any others... I'm sort of protective of King Arthur, but that's more because I paid for it with my own money.
Generally, I love sharing films - books as well - with people. I love watching films with other people - making funny comments, making them laugh, having serious discussions.
However, I'll get protective if someone criticises something I like...

Probably most classic movies like Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, The Philadelphia Story, Some Like It Hot, etc, stuff that most of my friends haven't even even heard of.

West Side Story is my own sacred story. But with my friend we respect Phantom of the Opera, Moulin Rouge and some Disney cartoons. Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter are my favorites but I wouldn't call them sacred because I'm letting everybody see how they make me go crazy

Yes...also, it's not just nto sharing...I mean, I've shared LotR with many people since I've watched it. It's just...I don't know. One of my best friends, not the one with the "sacred" movies, the other one--her idea of movies is more action or comedy. We watched You've Got Mail, a romantic comedy, and she...well, she just didn't really like it. Also, when I speak of LotR, she's been known to say "It's just a story, Katie!" in a rather jokingly way. I KNOW that...but it’s so much more than just a story to me. So when my mom suggested watching Phantom of the Opera with her and Jen (“sacred” movies friend)...I said no. She just would not understand it, understand why it means so much to me.
But that’s just me!

Fern Gully, Highlander, , Never ending story, Bill and Ted's exellent adventure, and many horror movies that would bore you for me to name them all.
I hate it when my house mate (who is petrified whenever she see's a horror) tries to pick apart the movie 'whats is motive i dotn understand why it would do that'. 1. The motive is quite clear if you weren't hiding under the pillow and 2.ITS EVIL duh.

Hmmm . . . well, Lord of the Rings - obviously am in LOVE with those movies. Moulin Rouge!, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Farenheit 9/11. There are lots of others, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.
