I am really new to Star Wars, And I still need to see episode 2 and 3,but, I was wondering, are the light saber colors ranks,or are they just colors???

I think they're just colors.. the only one that makes a difference is the Red one, which is a Siths. (anti-Jedi) Hope this helps! :bye2:

yeah I don't think it matters because Yoda has a green one and I think at one point Luke had a green one and they definately aren't in the same rank...but yeah its just colors i think...

Just colors, though I always wondered why Mace was the only one to have a purple lightsaber.

yah, I agree. :D Now that I actually think about it.

It's so not fair,though, that they have to make the siths' lightsabers red.
Red is my favorite color,can't it be good!Lol! :-D

Mwahaha...I want a red double-sided lightsaber :bones: Red is just so darn cool. Now a BLACK lightsaber would be even cooler. 'Twould match Vader's armor!

It isn't bad, exactly, only the people who use them are bad. :disgust: (The color comes from the crystals they use. The Jedi use naturaly occuring crystals, hence the color variants. But the Sith use synthetic crystals(more powerful), but I guess they haven't figured out a way to make them anything other than red. :P)

Well, I was wondering about the colors too but I think I figured that out from your posts, thank you. But how does the light saber work, how strong are they and what can they cut through?

Another one... who was Anakin's father? Did he inherit his connection with the Force from his mother or father?
(I've seen Episode I, II and III, the new ones!)

Mace has a purple light sabe because Samuel L Jackson asked to have one so in the big fight scenes such as in Episode 2 he could see himself. A bit vain really but that's the reason for the purpleness. :bounce:

anakin didn't have a father. i am not too sure about this (even though i love star wars lol) but i htink he was just like created from the Force. am i right? lol im pretty sure he didnt have a father.

As far as I know, they can cut through pretty much anything except another lightsaber, as well as deflect blaster bolts. As for strength, that depends mainly on the crystals used(I think. You can change it with a knob/dial on the handle also). You can see how they work here.

the colors (except red) dont mean anything. like Maetharanel said, its from the crystals they use (when a youngling is chosen as a padawan, thus making them a Jedi, they fashion their own lightsaber from crystals from the Cave of Ilum).

and anakin didnt have a father... it was the force... i dont know the exact details.


lightsabers can cut through anything but the blades of other lightsabers (I think) or lasers (and i think lightsaber blades are some kind of laser beam) which is why they couldnt cut through the laser walls in the darth maul fight/ qui-gon death scene *sniffle*

and the purple is just because in every other one of Samuel L Jackson's roles, there was something purple (shirt, hat, etc) so he requested it. i personally think its kind of ugly (and girly), but thats just my opinion...

^ Yeah, they have to use the Force to align the crystals just right. (if they don't, the first time the lightsaber is ignighted, it blows up :bones: :annoyed2:)
