Anyone seen this fascinating series? For those who haven't I shall enlighten you....

A crew and a medium and usually a historian will spend a night in a haunted location, where the medium (origianlly Derek Acorah) would try to contact the spirits and any information such as names, places etc, would be researched by the historian to see if he is coming out with any information that is known to be true - rather than just making things up. Derek also has no idea which location he will be going to so any chance of people saying "he's read up about the locations previously" go out the window.

I don't think I've seen this particular show, but I watched a similar one a couple of times last semester when I was bored...don't remember what it was called, maybe "America's Most Haunted Hotels." Or something like that. Anyways, mostly people thought the houses were haunted because they heard strange noises...come on, people! These hotels were in old buildings, mostly...of course you're going to hear creaking noises.
I
n spite of my cynicism, I was a little scared, even though it was daylight :P I get frightened easily though. So forgive me if I don't check out this show right away :D

I had always intended to watch it, but when I found out the medium was going to be Derek Acorah I changed my mind. Not that I feel he's particularly a charlatan, I just find him very irritating. All those "Thank you Please" just do my head in.

Now he's gone I'll have to re-consider watching it.

I actually like in very much for the reasons you have stated. I don't see what's wrong with having him being polite...he just respects the dead more than those who aren't gifted.

It's not about being polite. It's just the way he says it. I can't really explain it, it just bothers me. He's a very talented medium and I used to listen to him on Talk Radio when he was on and he used to say it in between like every second word. It got nauseating after a while.

Ooo, I used to watch it every week, I have an obsession with anything thats not ordinarym UFO's etc. It appears a wee bit fake, but its fun watching Yvette scream her head of!

Well if it's anything to do his accent it doesn't bother people as he was born in Liverpool which is where my parents come from.

I have always believed the show to be genuine. I don't think it's fake at all. But Derek can't win: if he say's so-and-so died here and the information is researched and found to be correct - he looked it up beforehand (even if the information is not in the public domain) - and if he comes up with a totally new name that no-one can find out about - he's lying.

But some of the things he does say and ring true are so astounding that I find it hard not to believe him.

And the show itself - I remember a time when a spoon was thrown at the crew - and the crew members were no-where near where it was thrown from, yet the "sceptic" actually wondered if the crew had thrown it, which casued Yvette to get upset with him for saying such a thing.

I also saw Derek at the Empire Theatre in Liverpool and it was frightening. He was correctly telling people how their loved ones passed over and what they were trying to tell the living. Most of the things he was saying were private things that no-one put the dead and the living could know about. I don't believe they were planted people either.

Nonono..it's not his accent. I wish I could explain it without looking like a total dork, but I can't seem to get the words right at all.

^ I know what it's like when you can't say what you mean. It's Ok though, I sort of understand what your saying! :D

I'll try one more time lol
I think he overdoes it sometimes and maybe it's just because he says "Thank you Please" Not please then thank you..stupid I know. But it just seemed to bother me

Yeah, maybe your right, it probably does sound a little strange on the TV programme but I think it's Ok when it's to a live audience if you know what I mean? It sounds better to people he's talking to.

Aye, it maybe. I've only ever heard him on radio and seen him on tv and it comes across as quite patronising. It's obviously not intended that way though.

Ooh, he's on the radio? I take it your from England then? No, I don't think it's intended to be like that. You see he does so many different things, he's on a programme where people bring objects to him and he can tell them about the previous owners etc. And there he always asks can he touch the object - I'm presuming in the past when he's done readings people may have objected so know he always asks. Just a theory though.

I know he used to occasionally have a slot on Talk Radio, normally on James Whales show. I have no idea if he still goes on there. But he was hugely popular and James was always getting bombarded with emails asking when he'd be on next.

Yeah, I can imagine him being bombarded. He's stopped Most Haunted now so he can concentrate on his tours...it was also getting dangerous...
