Black Powder War, #3 of the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. My grandparents decided they wanted to buy me books on Thursday, so I got the first three :)

The Chronicles of Narnia. All packed into one big book, which is annoying. I'd rather have seperate books, but oh well.

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Starting my summer reading a bit early. I'm onjly about five chapters into it, but so far, it's immensely disturbing and completely amazing at the same time.

The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan and The Last Templar by Raymond Khoury. The latter... eh. Dan Brown can do it better.

Ick, can we avoid the Twilight comparisons? Twilight and Anne Rice's Vampire series aren't even in the same league.

Still reading blah... Cry, The Beloved Country.

SO much better than Twilight. The characters, the world she describes, the complexity, poetic language and the sheer depth of the story - it really is about so much more than the very cliche old stories about vampires. It actually has depth. The characters are real, nothing like the side-characters in Twilight, who are, least to say, not really complete characters at all. These are the truly good vampire book. *worships* Also, Lestat is SO much more interesting to me than Edward, who's character seems so boooooring and simple in comparison. :D And I completely fell for Louis too - oooooh great, great tortured, poetic, sweet, empathic, but very cruel in his own way, what a character! She really created a story that isn't just about weird fantasy characters that dwell around seducing teenage girls and scaring peasants, it's not just a vampire story, she shows an amazing understanding of the real world as well. She shows a very good understanding of the human soul, and she uses her vampire characters to..magnify the personalities. It's like she's holding up a mirror for humanity in general. It's great. I'm addicted already :D

I second every single word you've just said. Louis is awesome. I have yet to read The Vampire Lestat though.

The Art of War by Sun Tzu.
