" You talk of battles to be won, and here he comes like Don Juan! It's better then an opera! "
I absolutly adore Les Misérables. It is one of the finest play-book-movie.
Play: I never had the pleasure of going to Broadway to see it, but I have the soundtrack and it's marvelous!
I absolutly adore Jean Valjean and Cosette. Eponine is growing on me now.
Book: The Book by Victor Hugo is great. This was the original and a fine piece of literature.
Movie: The Movie with Liam Neeson and Uma Therman is spectacular. If you haven't seen it, I'd suggest it.
Any other Les Mis fans?

i've seen the play twice (the first time i was really little and i don't remember much but the loud gun shots), and seen the movie but i don't really remeber that one either. i think it's a great story, but my sister is a bigger fan and knows more about it than i do.

The only type of association I have with Les Miserables is that in Orchestra we played two songs from it (very pretty, even though one was painful for me...). One, I believe, was a mixture of songs, and the other one was called "Bring Him Home."
My brother has read the book (we own a copy) and he enjoyed it. I remember him telling me about (it sounded pretty neat). He also said never read the abridged version of the book because it just leaves out a LOT of things.

I love the book. When I first picked it up, I thought "Darn this book is long, it's bound to be boring". And I was really wrong. I love this book!! I haven't gotten a chance to see it performed (and I live in NYC, how sad is that).

Oh GOOD. I knew there was a Les Mis thread, I've been looking for it everywhere!
I love the story, but my favourite character is Javert, and I like Cosette aswell. I love her songs. Marius is great, too. And Gavroche "little people"
Last night was the opening night of Les Mis at our school. I'm 2nd hand lighting technician. one of my best friends Paul plays Javert, and I love his character and uniform to pieces. Tonight is middle night, and tomorrow is closing night.
I love the buzz at the end of the show where you get that lovely adrenaline rush and head of drama called us up on stage for doing the lights and rehersing for days on end.
I love this story
I've literally been going to bed every night and singing to myself:
"There is a castle on a cloud"

Oh My GOSH! So sorry for the double post but last night we got a STANDING OVATION
And, the woman sat on the opposite side of the barrier of my light desk was crying her eyes out when Javert threw himself off the ledge into the river (crash mat)!
Can't WAIT for tonight, I'm going to buy disposible camera after and take LOTS of pictures

I have been a fan of the musical since about a year after it came out (That was around 1985 so it's been a long time!) I've seen it about seven or eight times in London's West End, but it has never toured the U.K.
I found the book incredibly difficult to read because Victor Hugo was a terrible editor of his own work - so much so that I sometimes lost the thread of the story because he was writing about something else. At one point, we get a whole chapter detailing the battle of Waterloo - with the last half page of the chapter giving us a little bit of back story about Marius' father! But it was worth hanging in there and I would recommend it.
As for movie versions - I'm sorry, but I loathed the Liam Neeson film. It fell into the same trap as the version where Charles Laughton played Javert and ended the story in the wrong place! Hollywood just cannot seem to cope with a sad ending to a story, so just didn't film it. There is a French film verson that is far better - it was made in the late 1980's and even has Gavroche humming 'Little People' in it. Unfortunately I caught it on T.V one night and don't know if it is on Video/DVD.

I listened to a radio theatre version of Le Mis, and I loved it. The book was also awesome.
As for the movie, it was good, but didn't quite fulfill my expectations.

Blah, I've only seen the movie (which was fantastic) but I'd love to see the play and read the book. *adds book to very long reading list*

I love Le Mis! I havn't read the book, or seen the play, but I do own the sound track, and I love it to death. My friend had a part in the talent show, and she sang On my Own. She was amazing. He voice was perfect for the part. I would love it if we did Le Mis as a musical. Butwe can't because some parts were deemed inapropriate. Bah!
Congrats Alessae, on your standing ovation!

Our community theater does a production of it every 2 years...Oh I love that play! I've seen it three times (once an off-Broadway) and read the book this year. It is fantastic.
My favorite characters are probably Marius, Eponine, and Gavroche. But I love Javert's songs in the play. And that's just a really cool name. Javert.
