Why do you like your fav song? This is a question I have been pondering for years. And why do we like music anyway?

I've said this many times to my friends, when i tell them i dont like a song.
I like it if 1.if my foot can tap along to it, if not it's failed as a song.
2. If i can sing along to it, I don't any singers who scream
3. If it relaxes me in any way, a great example being Pink Floyd.

I don't think you could ever say you have a favorite song. Each song has something about it that makes it neat.
I guess we like music because when you listen to it, you get a rush of feelings. Your feet start moving and you lose control!!!!!!!!!!!

I find it really hard to describe why I like the music I do.
I don't think there is a word that can...it's just an intense feeling. Some songs just send tingles up my spine and I break out in goosebumps.
There are other songs that bring out my rage, but it's a vent. A release. Rather than going out and smacking someone...I can put on some Slayer or even old Tool songs and it puts my teeth on edge. But in a good way. If that makes any sense. lol
Music for me is a release of emotion.

FIrst, as Raivynn said ^ the feeling when you get into the music. But, of the song itself, also the vocalist, and lyrics. I love lyrics : D

In my ENEX 101 class (pretty much English class:p) We had to pick 10 or so songs that were meaningful to us and write about why we liked them. Each of the songs I chose represented times in my life such as Leiley by Dania, it made me think of my mum because she's a Belly Dance Teacher...
Music represents different things for each person, because of different experiences people have. Sometimes it's the lyrics we can connect to, or a great beat that makes us want to dance.

It's hard to analyse too much why I like certain songs, because then they lose their 'magic' for me. To put it simply, I love music (especially instrumental music--no lyrics) because it lets my imagination go free. A lot of my inspiration for stories and poems come from songs or pieces of music.

I listen to music with inspiring words and cool beats.
Usually I listen to Christian contemporary music, because the words spiritually strengthen me -- it's nice to hear words of truth each day.
And I also listen to soundtracks a lot. Whenever I decide to write, I listen to the Narnia soundtrack, for instance. It really, really helps to flush out mythecal ideas.

Difficult question for me to answer, because I like so many kinds of music...
Um, with vocal music, it mostly depends on the vocalist. Whoever's singing MUST have a powerful, belt-out voice, and must not sound at all whiny/screamy, breath-y, or hoarse. They can't sound like they're talking as they sing, either - I usually like songs where the vocalist sings the words more as a slur (that's the best way I can describe it ).
As to the melody and genre, a lot of what I like is passionate music (erg, bad term). Something to which you can belt our your anger, or something triumphant and inspiring, or deeply moving. I enjoy melodies that only take me a couple times to pick up, too - songs that go all over the place aren't as fun.
Lyrics aren't that big a deal to me. Sure, I appreciate music artists much more if they have unique, meaningful lyrics, but when I first hear a song, I usually listen for how well the person can sing, how original the melody is, etc. If the lyrics are good, great; if they're bland, well, that's ok too - it's only offensive lyrics that almost always turn me off.
*shrug* but it's hard for even me to predict what I will and won't like, so it's hard to write down exactly why I like a song.

The music itself. All I need is an awesome powerful melody and I'll love the song no matter what genre or who sings it, I would say the melody is the absolute most important thing for me. If a song has the most cheesiest or crappiest lyrics but the most awesomest melody you ever heard, I'll still listen to it and call it a great song.
Music fills my heart and soul with such joy nothing else can. It's pure emotion.

It's fine.
Yeah, I have to agree with Eru, I like some songs that have cheesy lyrics, but the melody is really nice...so I like it...So, I was thinking why people don't like songs...For me, I don't like when people screech and the melody is bad

Hmmm I find lyrics can be important sometimes.
For example Amon Amarth or Elvenking have strong Heathen/Pagan leanings and I can relate to that a lot and it resonates within my soul.
A song like 'A Thousand years of Oppression' is filled with so much truth for me and I connect with that song in such a powerful way.
