What about Epica? An extremely good band from the Netherlands, it is. It's gothic, mostly, and I'm sure the Nightwish-lovers will love this band. Also, pretty famous in Europe at the moment, is Within Temptation. In my opinion Epica is still a lot better than Within Temptation, though. Within Temptation is also a gothic band.

Newcomers Home is another Colorado band, but they're from Boulder... the lead singer actually grew up in my city. They're sort of folk/rockish/celtic/bluegrass. www.newcomershome.com

Tarot - Marco from Nightwish's other band
Danzig - Awesome. 'Nuff said
L7 - All girl punk/rock.
Hammerfall
Paradise Lost - Great British Metal band with a gothic/doom edge
Fozzy
Fireball Ministry
DragonForce - Awesome British power metal.
Enslaved - Viking metal
That's all I can think of off the top of my head at 4am

Since you were the first that introduced me to Nightwish(and now I'm a big fan ) I have to check those bands too
