no way it is silly to have a crush on somebody in books because most of the time those people can be in real life, for instance if there is a book on the movie lotr several people would have a crush on legolas (sry for my long speech there)

I think it's perfectly fine to have a crush on a book character, I have quite a few in case you're wondering :p When my dad read me Lord of the Rings when I was 5ish I had a crush on Legolas :P
Now I'm wondering why people have crushes on characters?

I think having crush on a character, even if they are acted, is in a whole different category to having a crush on someone you know.

If its a written character, it probably means their personality, and how they are described, appeals to you. I dont really watch cartoons, but I guess it's the same, except you have a vague sort of visual to assist you imagination.
And having a crush on an actor/acted character generally implies you think they're cute. :P
A crush on someone you know means you like who they are as a whole; you know what they're like in real life, and like it.

So I guess it is okay to have a 'crush' on a character, but remember that they are just part of someone else's imagination, and don't let yourself get out of touch with the world. ;)

Most definately thinks it's perfectly okay. I hate to admit it, but my book crush (my only book/fictional character crush) was/is Sirius Black from the Harry Potter books. Definately not the actor Gary Oldman, though I love him all the same. When I first started reading Harry Potter (basically when the first came out) and we were first introduced to Sirius, I was strangely attracted. When he was killed (hope I didn't spoil that for anyone who hasn't read book 5), I couldn't believe it. I had to stop reading for hours...and then I started weeping. I've NEVER done that while reading a book. Ever. I was depressed for such a long time. I just couldn't believe it.
Okay, so I take back that he's my only book crush...because now that I think about it, Tom Riddle (from Harry Potter -- duh) could be considered one. I'm not sure if you'd consider it a crush per say though. I'm just utterly fascinated by him.
So, Sirius Black crush? Yes
Tom Riddle crush? Um...not to sure...if you consider utter fascination then yes. :P Ha ha ha. Those are my only book/fictional character crushes. Yay!

^ Amen. I think you got it. BUT, the reason why I get crushes on guys in cartoon if they are really sweet. (You can tell by looking at the guy in my sig) Really, looks don't all that matter to me.

:-D

getting a crush on a fictional character is very common. I think i would be easier to handle your 'emotions' about them and you wouldn't have to "tell-them-how-you-feel" since they don't exist!

I voted that it could get a little out of hand, but I've had a crush on a fictional character. There's nothing weird about it, when you read a well written book, you feel like you know the characters.
