Hey everyone! Sorry I've been absent from the Family recently... A week ago, I got back from visiting relatives in New Mexico, and this week I've been packing frantically for college (like many of you, I see). I can't believe I'm leaving tomorrow! Time flies... Skitty, I can't imagine missing stats ... but I didn't have a summer job either, so I spent most of my free time watching Modern Family episodes and getting a head-start on reading some of my textbooks. (channeling my inner Hermione... )

I completely understand the desire to either be studying or working. I wouldn't know what to do if I wasn't so bogged down with homework that I couldn't do anything else. I started school again last Wednesday and am already absolutely buried in work ! I hope you have better luck getting a job in a veterinary clinic, Lithôniel/Mum!

Thanks Eraisuithiel! (Mind if I call you Era, for short? Or would you prefer somethin else?) Its been annoyingly rough. I guess I could always channel my inner Hermione as well and go back through all my old text books, try to keep things as fresh in my mind as can be.

(Era or Eri are perfect ) Wouldn't it be great if channeling your inner Hermione meant you got a time-turner? School always seems to take more time than there are hours in the day.

I have a really boring History teacher, and while I like the subject, I just feel like I'm not going to learn anything this year.

I hate it when teachers take an interesting subject and make it boring! Especially history! History can be so fun and interesting. If I were a teacher, I'd either pick history or biology to teach, and I'd find a way to make it fun and get the students to interact with the material in some way.

Yes! Im homeschooled so I get to do a lot of things on my own, so I think school is a ton of fun.

I had the best 8th grade history teacher, and I think that's why I'm (more or less) studying history in college. He used to dress in costumes for class, and he always had little games we'd play as a class. For our Civil War unit we all got to draw names of famous people from the era and we got to "be" them for the unit, and as we learned he'd make sure to highlight what each person did. I got Robert E. Lee so I felt like the special-est duck in the class. He also had a guillotine and beheaded a newspaper person in the French Revolution unit. That was a good one. Oh, and we played mini soccer at Christmas to represent the Christmas Truce in WWI, and we had another Christmas party earlier in the year when we were talking about the Revolutionary War and Washington attacking the Hessians. Ugh. So many happy memories from that class.

I took AP US history my senior year and loved it--my teacher was a lot like yours, Skitty. Every year he does Gerald Ford day where he dresses up as Gerald Ford, and pretends to be him subbing the class. And says things like "Why is your face red like a communist?" while the students try not to laugh.
Today is Labor Day and I have class. My college is insane and cruel.

Apparently history teachers are awesome. My history teacher was far and away the best teacher in the high school. He started the first day of class saying there was no such thing as a stupid question because the worst you will hear is no. So one of the students asked him for a dollar. Which he then took out of his wallet and gave - because there are no stupid questions. You had to catch him at the right time to get a dollar though, he usually said no. But then one time when he was passing out the test someone asked for the answer to the first question, which he gave us - because there are no stupid questions. And when we studied medieval history we each got to be our own "kingdom" and created a list of trivia questions based on the unit. Then we battled our questions with someone else - the loser became a part of the winner's kingdom. And so on, until it was half the class against the other half. During this whole time my teacher had a bola and a couple of swords in his classroom, and if you had a dispute over a question he would come over and stab your book/notebook with a sword. I think I still have mine somewhere in my room. And as overall winner of the game, I got to have my picture taken with my second-in-command, both of us holding swords. It was pretty awesome. And we played games with allies to illustrate the beginnings of WWI (let me tell you, that class was the first time I've ever actually gotten the gist of that war). And we went to Medieval Times as a class. Also, he did a thing called a cookie drop - if you brought food to class to share, he'd take it and hold it over a stool. Anyone who wanted it could come up and circle around the stool, at which point he'd drop the food and you'd just go until the winner emerged victorious. I loved that teacher. He was awesome.

All your teachers sound amazing! Maybe my teacher will retire in the next year or so, and will be replaced by one of your cooler teachers.

Realized in my post above that I said Gerald Ford when I totally meant Henry. You know, the guy who made the cars. We care about him quite a bit up in the Mitten State. This is why I shouldn't have school today, I can't think! My high school history teachers were always amazing. In my 10th grade history class, which was held during 08-09 school year, we spent half the year talking about the presidential election and had no homework, but I learned more about politics in one semester than I had in the last 15 years of my life. (The class was called history of Political Thought). The second semester of that year we watched The Matrix. And when I took AP European history the year after, we mostly read plays. And don't even get me started about the amazing English teachers I had in high school. My high school was awesome, guys. ... But college can be awesome too. I had an amazing discussion with my psych professor about Asylum of the Daleks today!

Amazing high school? Ha ha ha ha ha ... ha... Yeah, mine pretty much sucked. I had to take European History and World History online because the only classes they offered were about Good Ol' Amurica. Well, I liked the English teachers well enough, I suppose. I found some of their Facebook pages a few days ago (entirely by accident, I should say) and it was a very strange experience...

I loved my high school biology teacher, he was so awesome. I would hang out in his classroom in the morning and we would talk LotR. I would also hang out with one of my history teachers, who actually taught my dad when he was in school! So she's been a teacher there for a long time! And of course I spent a lot of time in the library, even when I wasn't working there.

My awesome high school might have been due to the fact that I went to a charter school, not a public one...just a theory.

Guys, I don't want to grow up. I mean, I know I was posting about wanting to find a job and how it's a bit boring to just sit at home all day, but....getting a job means growing up and being responsible and not getting to blog and play in photoshop all day. Why do I have to get older?
