I agree, but I did not start following that advice until about 6 months ago, and have FIVE 1 FOOT BY 1.5 FOOT BY .75 FOOT BINS IN MY CLOSET FILLED WITH SOCKS WITHOUT MATES.

I do believe that the manufacturers embed something in the sock's fibers that cause them to attempt to get away from one another. It is like when you turn a magnet around, and it repels, rather than attracts. The purpose of this manufacturing technique is to enable the makers of the socks to create an open ended market for their products, obliging people to purchase more and more socks. If one is REALLY clever, you can avoid this shameless ploy of excessive consumerism. BUY ALL THE SAME SOCKS. There are certain downsides to this strategy, like having your white cotton athletic socks seen under the hem of your tuxedo trousers, but that is a small price to pay for intelligent frugality! 343-Bumpy Spark |

It's because the anti-socks kingdom dislikes them very much. They are an ally of the humans, and therefore think the socks may be dangerous. Therefore, for our protection, they steal our socks. There must be a trap door under the washing machine or the dryer...and once man-kind have found it, everyone will be happy. The unsolved mystery still hangs, in mid-air, un-closed. What a shame. |

Maybe it's like Toy Story, and the socks like come to life when you leave to room to go to school, and in each pair of socks there's always the sensible sock (right foot) and the sock that always tries to make a bid for freedom (left foot!) Maybe if you look straight down out of your bedroom window once in a while you'll see little bit's of thread that were off the socks!

Ah, I have a theory. There are ACTUALLY...sock monsters. They hide in your closet, in your drawers...under your bed..etc, etc. And they're soul purpose in life is to steal one sock of every pair. They're all crazy collectors, you see...and they MUST have socks. -nodnod- They also enjoy messing up your room, by throwing all the socks back into a previously clean space so it looks dirty. HOWEVER...when you're LOOKING for the socks, you can't find them because the sock monsters have hidden them in their own special stash. ... Or perhaps not. |
