A small island lay in the midst of a great sea. At night its white beaches shone brightly under the moon, which never waxed nor waned above the rolling waves. If one would take the care to look closer, ignoring the town covering the center of the land, they would see a boy lying on the beach.
He would lye there every night, eyes half opened and mind wandering to places far beyond Faith Island. This night he had fallen quite asleep, unaware that the time to go back home had long past. Another figure walked down the beach, a bit older than the other. When he made it to the boy, the teenager stood over him for a minute then gave him a soft kick in the side.
He said, “Get up Seth, the sun’s about to come up.”
Seth half-woke, and rubbed his eyes slowly.
The younger said, “Alright Nol…go ahead, I’ll be right behind.”
Nolan raised an eyebrow for a second, but then just nodded and started walking towards the houses next to the beachfront.
Seth sat up and stared at the moon for a moment, still bathed in its light, and also at the stars, which were scattered all across the abyss of the sky. Then he stood and began slowly to walk back to the town. The brunette took one look back until a call from the houses made him finally walk home. Tears rolled down his cheeks.
